The pub atmosphere, friendly locals and the position of the hotel in the village of Peaslake, in the heart of Hurtwood in the Surrey Hills.
Poor service, disinterested staff, constantly gossiping amongst themselves and the obvious contempt of the management for their guests. Fortunately this hotel is to close down on Sunday 10th November 2013, Let's hope that if it re-openes, it is under new management.
The friendliness of the staff, the location, the bedrooms
Difficult to find, could be better signposted
The hotel has great character, and is in a wonderful location in the hills.
easy to find, lovely location, wonderful for walkers and perfect for bicycle trips. The food both in the restaurant and the pub is very good and great value for money. There is a local convenience store a minutes walk away that is also a post office
the noise level from both the pub downstairs and other rooms....thin walls...the 4 poster bed was lovely BUT was covered in cobwebs, a dust would not go astray
Polite staff, comfortable room, good food, great value
Food was very good.
The atmosphere in the bar was awful. no music, the lovely old paneling had been painted an awful colour, spoiling the 1920's feel of the hotel.
Friendly efficient staff.
Shower didn't work in room 11 and
Staff service Quality of room Cost
The breakfast, the room and the bed were first class.
There was nothing to dislike. The parking area could be larger and the entrance road could be busy but these are minor faults.
We booked two rooms, one for my wife and I and another for my Mother and Father. They had only reserved one room, so instead of 2 doubles, we had to have 1 double and one single. They did reduce the price though
Accomodation and food were very poor value for money and 50% of the staff tried to offer a service and the other 50% could not care less. The hotel is in desperate need of a makeover and only survives due to its location. I doubt if any guest would willingly return for a second time.
Quality of rooms very poor Food and accomodation is poor value for money 50 % of staff are certainly not focused on guests needs The whole package is very poor and only survives because of its location
Location is special. Village and surrounds are lovely. The level of service in restaurant and standard of the food was very good.
Room looked a bit tired. Staff member unable to hide irritation at having to work round us at breakfast - although she was apologetic (apparently a message about our early appearance had not been left) her continued annoyance was plain and it left a bit of a sour taste.
Food, service(very friendly helpful staff), hotel and location was very good.
No rails or handles to get out of shower/bath
Quiet location, excellent bar food, welcoming staff. Great fun at the Peaslake Festival.
From the start there was a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. I was meeting up with friends from school whom I had not met for over fifty years. We could not have chosen a better location to get to know each other again and, for a few hours, relax and reminisce over a meal and a few drinks, finishing up with our singing the school song. It was with reluctance that we finally went to bed to have a comfortable night's sleep. The staff and management of the hotel, once they knew the reason for our stay, went to every length to make sure we had a good and memorable time even to the extent of taking a number of photographs to remind us of our stay.
After having had such a good evening, saying goodbye and leaving the next morning was difficult. However this was tempered by our resolve to meet up again as soon as possible and, more than likely, at the same location.
Good food, room was clean and comfortable. Nice peaceful setting perfect for a couple of days relaxation
Food was excellent and realistically priced. Staff were extremely friendly and obliging.
Delay at breakfast because the chef had a burst tire on his way to work!
Customer service, flexibility on breakfast times, quality of food
Travel to surrounding areas, taxis were expensive
Nice relaxed. Atmosphere pleasant village location yet access was good
Attention needs to be given to cleaning processes whilst it was fairly clean the attention to detail could be better ie chipped and dirty paintwork stained carpets dirty windows paying attention to this would bring it closer to an excellent score
