Our first room was excellent
Our second, have a very bad bathroom arragement
Room was a bit smaller than expected but very well presented
Dinning options are very limited given a wide spectrum of people
The room was clean
I was put in another hotel within the group which I believe from the taxi driver was common practise.
Friendly helpful staff and a free upgrade. Parking available.
Tiny bathroom even in upgraded double room.
I had asked for early check in and was told this would be offered but this wasn't the case. I dropped my bags and spent the day outdoors and on returning at about 5pm, they offered me a room that already had people in it! They had the whole day to get it right but they didn't. I stayed for 6 nights; most days, the room was not vacuum cleaned and on a couple of days, the glasses were not washed. This was very poor for this class of hotel.
Staff were pleasant.
Room was tiny the pair of us could not stand at end of bed, only one towel (so they didn't expect 2 people), had to walk sideways down side of bed, nearly broke my neck trying to get out of bed. They relocated us next night room slightly bigger, but, unable to open door into room fully as it hit the opposite wall and could only open bathroom door half way as it opened onto bed. In both rooms shower was just big enough to stand in. Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Grossely over priced. Wouldn't even give it one star. The Best Western hotels in Chester knocks spots off this coal house.
Being woken up at 5.45 by staff outside the window dealing with laundry
Staff was nice, room was small but clean and well equipped.
Noise of traffic from the street (the window didn't close properly)
Very clean, great staff a very enjoyable stay. I would stay here again
Location is good
Very small room in the basement, noisy and very expensive for what it is (not mentionning the price of the breakfast)
- Very Helpful staff - Location - Value for money
- TV channels
Room is too small
The location with its proximity to shops, cafes and Paddington station are perfect for us, whereas the other building on the other side of the street was further away....
But the room size was far too small for us and disappointing compared to the other building where for lesser cost we had a reasonable sized room for less cost.....
convenient location next to tube stations
Over utilization of space
Excellent Staff and the room was spacious and well appointed. We had a club twin room. Breakfast was also excellent and good value considering the cost of meals on the High Street.
I had to remind the reception staff several times to reinstate my credit card from the pre arrival deposit they took without my authority several days before our arrival. Overall it took five days for the refund. No other hotel takes a pre arrival deposit and payment in full upon arrival. Lacking a bit of trust there.
Room was clean with good facilities and a comfortable bed. The staff were very helpful. The Hotel was very handy to Paddington Station.
The single room was very small and expensive for the price paid
1-Excellent location. 2-Helpful staff. 3-Microwave in the room. 4- Comfortable Pillows.
1-The room card was not working well ,it needs to be charged every day and sometimes twice a day. 2- Bad view, since my room was big and all big rooms had back view ( not city view) as the reception told me. 3- very narrow clothes cabinet.
location, quality bed
size of room was incredibly small for the price, but location was good and hotel felt safe
reception staff were super. Bedrooms clean and comfortable
Kitchen staff were not so super
Location is good, especially when travel by train - literally 5 in walk from Paddington station
The single room I had was the smallest i ever had incl London and Paris and far from 4 star hotel expectations. The first room offered was on -1 floor so behind window I had some stairs to underground spaces some workers were using all the time. After my complains the staff offered me another room on base floor which was also 'very big' - it was around 5m2 with very narrow bed, no space for anything. The staff told me all single rooms are like that..So would NOT recommend this hotel for singles.
Staff was very positive and trying to help with different requests.
The rooms are small, and overall it looks poor as for 4* and its price.
The hotel was close to Paddington Station.
Thinking Paddington Station was where we needed for a very early morning train to St Pancras, we booked at the Shaftesbury since it is very close to the station. And yes, we did agree to the cancellation policy. However, when we realized Paddington was not the right station, we called at least 5 days before arrival to try to cancel. Because we had booked through Booking.com, we were told we would be charged 100% cancellation fee. We felt because of our circumstances and that we had given ample notice that the hotel was being rather inflexible. Even though we were told we were up-graded from two single beds to two double beds, the room was noisy--being located next to the lift, roof-top heating units cycling/rattling and construction from the underground. Also, the trash had not been emptied,
This was a last minute booking so was surprised to find free wi-fi and a lift which were not advertised I was given free up-grade to a large room with microwave, safe, iron, hairdryer, kettle tea and coffee Staff were very friendly and helpful Close to Paddington station and tube
I didn't see a restaurant or bar- but to be honest I did not look Toilet seat broken
Friendly and helpful staff, good - although rather expensive - breakfast, close to Paddington Station.
The rooms facing the street are rather loud, fortunately we could move to another room.
