Food very good Staff very friendly Adequate parking
Old fashioned hair dryer No refrigerator in room
We chose a basic room as we weren't in it much, but it was large and clean. Breakfast was actually served to you instead of a buffet, which was great and they had marmite!!
Chaotic service in the Conservatory about the time they were laying a few tables for dinner. No one served us, despite me going over and asking. The men concentrated totally on the task at hand, despite the fact one person could have done it. I eventually found a very nice young lady who looked after us.
Totaly good. The room is clean.
A little bit far from sea side. Transports are unconvinced . My room's window didn't open and water didn't stop in the bathroom. I don't recommend single room, if I stay here again I'll chose double.
location, v good food,v good value
the staff was very attentive.relaxing atmosphere, good service
bit of a walk to the town ctr
The Hydro Hotel is magnificent. It overlooks the sea and is a huge hotel built at least 100 years ago but retaining all the splendour and luxury of that time as it has been very well kept up. The staff are very attentive and nothing is too much trouble. The food is delcious and the ambience is to die for!
We were not aware that we had to dress for dinner in the main dining room & that we weren't able to wear casual clothes at night to meals in either restaurant. As we were on holidays and hadn't brought any very good clothes with us, we had to buy clothes to wear as the hotel is a good distance from the main town and other eating places. It is also an hotel that appears to cater mainly for guests in later life- most guests were in their late 70's or 80's and it was a bit like staying in a magnificent nursing home!
Friendly old-world feel.
Spongy beds and some dirt on floor of the bedroom and bathroom. Be prepared for a bit of a steep hill climb from town centre if you are on foot.
nice breakfast staff and food
The spa is sold as part of the hotel yet there is no communication between the hotel and the spa. We were told conflicting infomation which in turn ended up with my girlfriend not being able to book a treatment. Our complaint fell on deaf ears and found the customer service regarding the matter useless. No compassion despite choosing this hotel for such a special occasion.
I was with my son daughter in law and 2grandsons and it was great for us all.
No easy chair in bedroom
Room 110 doesn't have a bathroom within the room, it's on the other side of the corridor. Rather inconvenient, specially when you had not been warned at the time of booking.
Great comfortable stay. The staff was very welcoming, great service, food was delicious. Overall had a very good experience.
The wifi is very slow and isn't very accessible in the room.
breakfast outside tables service putting dogs allowed
Think a lot of people have been coming here for a lot of years.
Our room was large spotlessly clean and nicely decorated Beds v comfortable Staff were welcoming and v helpful The view towards the sea was nice The outside swimming pool and patio area needed some tlc but it was a nice spot Our food at night in the conservatory was v good
Its a very quiet Hotel with a very old fashioned atmosphere (not really to our taste) it reminded me of a few Scenes from "the shinning" after 10.00pm!! The Meal times were too early and check out 10.30am is not in keeping with most Hotels But we did however enjoy our stay.
I love the old world values of this hotel which is exemplified through the staff - nothing is too much trouble - the porters and restaurant staff are charming and do their best to accommodate your every need. I took a suite at the hotel which had stunning sea views and was comfortable - I was surprised there was no mini bar or fridge - but the furnishings were very pleasant and it was a lovely place to stay. House keeping was exemplary - they chamber maids were very efficient and my room was cleaned and tidied to an excellent standard and I'm fussy . Room service is great - prompt and they do a proper adult sized pot of tea .....With a jug of hot water - it is substantial and a quality cup of tea . The food is stunning - the meals in the crystal room were exceptional - and breakfast was consistently good whether I had it in bed or in the dining room . ( first five days I had it in my suite as the view was so spectacular ) The deserts at this hotel rivalled a London hotel m....cabinet pudding ! Ginger sponge .... lemon posset .. ...quite old school - vintage but totally tpdays standards in flavour quality and presentation . If you have a sweet tooth ..... stay here . This hotel has a demographic which is weighted at a slightly older market - I loved it - everyone had manners and you could get to sleep at night - also it had a great pool which I had to myself every morning!!!!! I saw two families stay at this hotel with children and they were catered for very well.
Air conditioning would be a bonus in summer months . Butter in plastic packs - a bit low level for a hotel whose food is tip top !
Free Upgrade to sea view Swimming pool General atmosphere Friendly staff Breakfast Spacious room Bath provided as requested Lots of varied seating
Comfortable beds. Beautiful sea views from hotel window. Spacious garden to sit and relax in. Good breakfast choices.
Small antiquated lifts. Poor wifi and mobile phone reception.
Location of Hotel Friendly staff
Having to log in to Wi-Fi with code each time you turned on your I-phone should be set for duration of stay
Lovely location and sea views. Old worlde feel and service. Very clean. Good choice of food and different eating areas.
Bed was comfortable however in room 312 - in was too small for a comfortable sleep with one large and one tall person.
The staff, the atmosphere, top notch location a great place to relax loved the added bonus of a heated outside pool we loved swimming there after walking Beachy Head and Seven Sisters. Breakfast and service could not fault.
The Room was very tired and in need of an update and make over. Very dated.
The hotel has great sea views. Although an old building it is warm, clean and inviting. The service in the conservatory is very good and the lunch we had was excellent. We had a superior room which was well worth the extra and was very well appointed.
We had booked a table for the evening meal. There were four of us and we were shown to a table for six. Two place settings were removed but the chairs were left at the table. The restaurant has a limited menu with four choices of main courses on both the table d'hote and a la carte selections. Both selections were reduced to three choices as they had run out of the lamb dishes on both menus. This was not the menu that had been advertised online. The food was good but with a strange choice of sauces. I chose the fillet steak which was served on a bed of chips. I was the given a selection of vegetables which contained new potatoes, strange. With such a limited choice to start with they should surely not have run out of any of the choices. The service was at best average. I would advise that anyone thinking of staying should eat in the conservatory. I wish we had.
The public rooms are very grand and the swimming pool looked lovely. There was a separate loo and an extra tiny room with a single bed in Room 235. Large room. Bed comfortable, but quite small double. The room was very hot, but an electric fan was bought up. Lovely old fashioned lift. Very Poirot.
Room had view of interior of back of hotel. Not pretty. Lots of staff noise. Very hot, no air conditioning. Bathroom desperately outdated. Plumbing old and cranky. Very worn out shower head in a tiny bath. Quite expensive, but we did stay during Airbourne show, so not surprised. Did not have breakfast as it finished at 9.30 at the weekend! . We were told after check out that we could have had it in the room for a tray charge of only £2 each! Shame we did not know this before. Would have loved a seaview, but we booked too late. On the whole, the hotel is a little worn out. Comfortable for a short stay, but a little dull.
