Just feet from Canterbury’s medieval West Gate, this charming building dates back to 1403. A former coaching inn, it offers free Wi-Fi and free parking, a short walk from the center of the city.

Very friendly staff.
Venue and room
Staff, female masculine manager had a real attitude and it showed, she was having a bad off, but it rubbed off on us and other quests
Bar Restaurant Friendly Staff Next to Park and Ride
Simple, straightforward welcome and service. Willingness to help and friendly attitude of staff.
Food in bar was poor - small portions and not as advertised on menu. Could not connect to wifi.
Great British pub atmosphere. Great location close to Eurotunnel and Canterbury. Beautiful old building.
Good location, free and ample parking, some staff very sweet and friendly. The second room we had, after complaining, thankfully was comfortable
The first room we had was cold and draughty, including unheated bathroom. Restaurant area also rather cold at this time of year. Very limited "continental" breakfast (which was English breakfast with no fry-up). Some staff poorly trained and impersonal.
Staff (esp. Helen) was very friendly and helpfull. Pub food was tasty, although not a lot of choice for vegetarians.
Free car park
Cosy pub with real fires and friendly staff. Location next to park and ride, perfect for Christmas shopping.
Slow service at lunch time, but to be fair a party of 25 had arrived just before we sat down, we were warned.
Ideally situated for park and ride into the centre of Canterbury. Very clean and friendly staff.
Food could have been better. Tended to be on the cold side, had to send a meal back because of this. Staff should pay more attention when taking the orders as had to keep asking for things we had not received.
Friendly service and good food.
I know the place is old which is fantastic. The bed was lobsided because of the uneven floor which caused me to keep rolling in the direction of the slope which woke me up quite a few times.if the beds had adjustable legs problem solved.
Friendly staff Comfortable room Lots of electric sockets Lovely and warm rooms
A very comfortable, cosy place. Subtle Christmas decorations and open log fires gave a very festive feel. Housekeeping was spot-on, nice large walk-in shower. Staff were quiet when locking up at night. The food and service in the restaurant was excellent.
Avoid room 6 - it's above the air filters in the kitchen which are going from 6am to midnight.
The interior and the room were good. Staff mostly allright.
The kitchen. A desaster. Six of us had to wait more than 1 hour and one of us more than 1, 5 hour. The meat was partly burned and dry. Shame shame. In one of rooms the heather was on so it was like a sauna. In an other the toilet was not working.
We stayed there so we would be close to Canterbury . The location was great, it was very convenient that there was a bar and restaurant on site so when we arrived late, we could have a lovely dinner without having to go in town.
There was a problem with the heating in our room and the bathroom was totally cold. I think the rooms would reallly need to be renovated. We stayed 2 nights, it was ok. Expected a little bit more.
The hotel was very clean, staff were friendly.
The wifi was extremely slow and it kept showing O2's nag screen every time I opened up the browser. At £75 a night, breakfast could've been cooked (they charged £7 more for cooked breakfast). At the very least, I would've liked ham and cheese to make a sandwich or at least have something other than yogurt, jam, bread and cereal.
The location is great - only 15 minutes downhill walk to Canterbury centre. The price was very reasonable for Canterbury accommodation. The adjoining pub "The Old Gate Inn" is very nice and having eaten there several times, I can recommend the food as solid gastropub stuff. The cooked breakfast was also very nice at an additional £6.95pp. Despite a couple of issues, I would stay again.
There is no thermostat in the room. During our stay the central heating system was on "The Gates of Hell" and it would have been nice to have the option of turning it down to "Inferno" or "Swedish Sauna". Also the extractor fan in bathroom is constantly only with no spur to switch it off. Both these issues meant an uncomfortable night's sleep. I did ask if the heating could be adjusted but was told, "it's on a central system, there's nothing I can do about it." That being said, the temperature meant that I was able to sweat off enough calories in the night to enjoy a cooked breakfast without guilt.
The last rooms available in Canterbury at short notice. Its next door to the Park and Ride so during the day you can use that to get into town. Rooms were clean and comfortable.
Included breakfast is continental. You can pay extra for a 'full English' but don't ask for any variations. Vegetarians NOT catered for. Disappointing these days.
lovely large room and ensuite. Staff very helpful. Easy to operate tv with large screen. Lots of variety at continental breakfast.
would have liked hot chocolate sachets included with drinks and also, free toiletries as advertised.
Staff were excellent!
As our room was overlooking main road I didn't open window and it was very stuffy.
The comfort of the room, the excellent dining options, wonderful and helpful staff
The shower in the family bathroom was not very powerful and was quite frustrating to use. The pull out sofa bed was a little crumpled for 2 people
Very convenient, easy to find. Helpful staff. Comfortable stopover before using channel tunnel.
