clean and spacious room, lovely large bathroom and bath
no wifi in our room
Lovely room, good breakfast
Staff - very noisy in the corridors outside the bedroom, service in the bar/restaurant area very slow and inattentive, staff (including the manager) were rolling their cigarettes on the bar so they could go for a 'fag break' rather than looking after their customers
poor cleanliness, stains on the walls, noisy room with a family upstairs which led to a poor nights sleep.
Very good sized room and bathroom. Light and airy with lots of character and excellent location.
no shampoo/conditioner in bathroom.
Called prior to visit to ask if any children with us in order to ensure they had a bed made up (family room). Location was superb. Lovely warm welcome and cosy atmosphere. Paid on arrival and offered luxury of 12pm checkout. Advised to avoid busy time if ordering food.
Although I advised no children, a temporary bed was made up meaning a bit cramped until we repacked the bed. Found questionable hairs under my wife's pillow. A lot of dead bugs encrusted on the only functional window (one that would open) so didn't want to disturb them. (We could cope with the hair and bugs but will come back to this....) Booking included breaKfast but this apparently included continental only and cooked was surcharged (again this was ok, but this wasn't advertised) - felt rushed during breakfast as the lady charged around clearing and cleaning. On checkout, asked how the stay was and we advised about the hair and bugs being a little unpleasant. "Ok" was the response. Awkward silence. "It will be sorted today". Unfortunately, that response was not ok as an apology would have been more appreciated. It's not a cheap place to stay, maybe this should be remembered when tending to patrons.
The very comfortable bed, wonderfully soft pillows and the friendliness, courtesy and helpfulness of the staff
Location Staff size of room
Mobile phone signal (or lack of) Wi fi only in public areas (and the system of logging on requires you to receive a text with a code - but the lack of mobile reception means you cant receive it!
The room was gorgeous, spacious, beautiful high ceiling, great decor and I wanted to take the bathroom home with me. Just stunning
The extra bed (sofa bed) in the room was not that comfortable, the mattress was quite thin so you could feel the frame through it - but for kids it would be fine.
Great location, in the centre of the village, close to local amenities. Pub and food were good, and it was great to relax last thing at night for a late drink.
Nothing to report
Location, superb, with excellent views... Definitely the reason we would have us return.
Cleanliness and decor maybe not the best it could be. Some of the staff could be quite rude and abrupt and one morning the guests in the breakfast room waited and waited for menus for cooked breakfasts... Took a guest to ask before we got them and the member of staff was somewhat surprised that they were required! After ordering the staff member returned to say they were out of eggs, mushrooms and bacon... Basic ingredients when there is a Full Cooked Breakfast on offer and to be paid for as not included in room rate!!!
Lovely open fires excellent value for money food. Comfortable and large accommodation
Was difficult to find staff in morning to order breakfast
church bells ringing until 11pm and starting again at 6am on a Sunday morning!
The location was excellent with great walks on the doorstep. We had a good sized room with nice bathroom.
The bed was very soft and a bit uncomfortable. The food was nothing special with undercooked batter and frozen chips one night and the continental breakfast was very basic and ordinary.
Location was good and staff friendly. Room was clean
Breakfast was a limited continental and no mention that a cooked breakfast was extra.
Liked the place and Castleton was lovely, very scenic.
Terrible nights sleep, people above where very noisey also slamming doors in the pub downstairs at early hours of the morning. Told the staff the morning after and really didn't have a lot to say. Thought he was a little on the defensive side. Won't be staying there again I'm afraid.
Everything but the breakfast, staff very friendly room lovely, evening meal excellent, stunning location. And very clean & comfortable
Breakfast we were told was at 08.30 we got there at 08.30 we knew it was a continental breakfast, but there was only 2 croissants, very low on bread a man asked for some more bread and the complained it was wet. Could have been a lot better, very little variety on yoghurt only 1 raspberry and all the rest peach
The location is good. The room was spacious and nicely decorated. Sufficient car par space.
The breakfast experience was a joke. No-one to greet guests. Continental breakfast is never usually very good but this was beyond poor. Room could have been cleaner.
Great food, helpful staff, good selection of beers, great atmosphere
Nothing to complain about
The location is great, right near the center, and with a free car park. The room was big, and in pretty reasonable condition (in the Annex). The continental breakfast was good.
The bed wasn't particularly to my liking, as it felt like it was trying to roll me out all the time. The electric shower was pretty bad with the temperature all over the place. This made it barely usable, but I would guess its a water pressure issue. Lastly, but there's nothing you can do about this, the church bells (I'll say no more)
Only continental breakfast
Everything especially the big bath and loads of hot water
The fire door for the outside room was a bit tempermental
Double bed felt squashed probably because use to bigger
Spacious rooms which were comfortable and well presented. Good location for access to Peaks and therefore good long energetic walks. Staff very helpful and cheerful.
Decided to eat at the restaurant first night and considered the fayre to be of poor quality.
wonderful position and view. We used the car park as a starting point for a round walk up cave dale and Mam Tor.
The quality of the 'continental breakfast'. Hard croissants spoilt what could have been a good start for the day. There was not the range that continental visitors would expect. A hot breakfast would have been more welcoming. As there is only a charge of £6 odd it could be included in the price.there was no shaver point in room or bathroom.
The food in the evening was average only
