had a lovely experience.location, staff, room and breakfast were all great.
only one slight grumble-the mattress had a rogue spring sticking up.
Lovely place and rooms very nice. Dinner was excellent - although a few mix ups with our order and a longer than expected wait at the bar.
I would like to be more positive about this place but Unfortunately they seemed overwhelmed when we were there... There was a mix up with our room on arrival - which was sorted out. Restaurant was extremely busy and no one had told us at arrival that we should book or that they would be too busy that night....we had to wait a long time to be seated ( much longer than the 20 minutes we were told ). The breakfast was disappointing - a few boxes of Kellogg's, toast and not much else - pastries ran out and waitress seemed too busy to refill coffee etc. hot breakfast was supposedly available but we were not told about it and waitress busy with other things so didn't get opportunity to ask. No one at desk when we checked out so didn't have opportunity to share our thoughts. Also - green emergency lighting right above bed was really unfortunate position and didn't make for a good nights sleep. It was a shame because the atmosphere etc was great, and the food was lovely at night - it could have been so much nicer!
The room was very nice and the breakfast was good.
Staff friendliness, ease of check-in, size of room, Room 3 with double aspect and 3 windows v bright and cheery. Nice décor. Great evenings decamping downstairs with board games/colouring etc alongside our food and drinks for the evening.
A spare mattress for second child would have been nice rather than double and sofa bed in room - or bunk beds. More pastries at breakfast although we were early others who were later I feel may have missed out. They were delicious!
Patricia It's in a lovely location next to the canal Into this wonderful gorgeous log files
Big room, good location, friendly staff, great breakfast (continental free breakfast), quiet even though above pub.
The room was a little cold, and I normally think hotel rooms are too hot!
Friendly, helpful staff nothing too much trouble. Comfortable atmosphere with log fire in bar area. Great complimentary continental breakfast.
Hair dryer not working and shower temperamental
Pretty location. Dining staff over attentive for Valentine's dinner...would have liked to have been left alone for longer. Staff very keen to check every 2 minutes that everything ok, we had what we needed etc.
Room small and dark. Bed seemed small for a double.
The location was great right on the riverside and the staff especially the manager couldn't have done enough for us. Apart from a few minor things I was really happy with the booking.
Although the room was comfy and spotless the downside was we were in room 6 which is right next to the front door so everytime someone opened it we heard the slamming. Also with guests being above us we could hear every footstep and noise that they were making.
We stayed here for my partners birthday and to go the zoo. Everything about it was perfect. Our room was a good size, the staff are very friendly and the good was great. Great atmosphere throughout as well.
pleasant staff, nice atmosphere, very clean
room very small, bar area very smoky from fire. breakfast disappointing.
Wanted to stay somewhere clean quiet and isn't too far from Chester city centre. Lovely staff and area. Would recomend. .
Only thing Id complain about is the bed wasn't the comfiest
Cosy atmosphere, warm welcome, open fires, home cooked food and privacy of annex rooms
Limited choice on menue
Great location. About 45 min walk into Chester along the canal. Nice pub, good food, nice grounds. Room was nice and clean. Continental breakfast had a good choice: fresh fruit, cereal, cereal bars, pain au chocolat, toast, muffins, fruit juice, tea/coffee. Cooked breakfast available if paid for.
milk cartons in room for tea tasted funny.
The atmosphere in the bar and lounge area.very nice weekend apart from the cold bedroom.
Room 5 has got a draughty window .stair area of room cold as well .
Nice and quiet room!
Breakfast was a bit chaotic, not enough staff !
Atmosphere very friendly staff excellent food great accommodation
Room itself, spacious, nicely decorated, clean. Good value for money with continental breakfast included in the price.
Plumbing in Room 1 (castle room) awful. Water running down sink bubbles up in the bath along with 'bits' and truly horrendous eggy/ sulphurous smell. Really lets down a good room. Hairdryer broken.
Location,excellent breakfast, unhurried checkout.
The pub is lovely and the staff great. Food was tasty.
The mattress on the bed was very uncomfortable, you could feel the springs when lying down. The furniture was in a poor state of repair. The shower curtain was mouldy and their were 2 squashed bugs on the bathroom ceiling. One of the electrical plugs did not work. You have to ask at the bar in the pub if you want toiletries. Although they are available if you ask I would expect complimentary toiletries to be in the room for the price we paid for the room.
From the minute we checked in to checking out the staff were attentive, courteous & friendly. They made travelling with a 1year old easy & enjoyable
Great old fashioned English Country Pub on the outskirts of Chester. The menu is simple but the foot was delicious We had a late lunch washed down with a couple of pints of real ale The staff were friendly and accommodating The rooms were a little on the small side but nevertheless our room was spotless and very comfortable We will return to stay again
Shame that a full English breakfast was an additional cost The included Continental breakfast consisted of serial, toast and a choice of cheese and yogurt A little disappointing
We loved the situation on the canal bank with the ability to stroll along the towpath in either direction and had chosen this hotel mainly for its location outwith the city. The bedrooms we saw were varied and quirky. Ours in the annexe backed on to the canal and were quiet. The food was very good pub grub with helpings for hearty appetites. This hotel does not pretend to be luxurious but is perfectly comfortable and provided everything that we needed for a three night stay for a family wedding in the area, including an iron and ironing board when we requested it. The staff were without exception friendly and helpful, readily providing information about local florists and taxis. The building and its grounds are attractive, even when we stayed in November, and I think it would be a delightful place to stay in summer.
There was nothing that we didn't like. Standard breakfast is continental, but for a very reasonable surcharge you can have a full English breakfast comprising almost anything you would want.
Near Park and Ride and the canal. Good food and cosy atmosphere in the bar. In warmer weather there are many outside seating areas, Good free Parking.
Some road noise from the busy A41.Bed a bit hard. Hair dryers need replacing, they cut out after 30 seconds. The Manager assured us they are in the process of being replaced.
Friendliness; clean; arranged for early check-in to enable us to get to a wedding
Nothing of note
