Wanted to stay somewhere clean quiet and isn't too far from Chester city centre. Lovely staff and area. Would recomend. .
Only thing Id complain about is the bed wasn't the comfiest
Cosy atmosphere, warm welcome, open fires, home cooked food and privacy of annex rooms
Limited choice on menue
Great location. About 45 min walk into Chester along the canal. Nice pub, good food, nice grounds. Room was nice and clean. Continental breakfast had a good choice: fresh fruit, cereal, cereal bars, pain au chocolat, toast, muffins, fruit juice, tea/coffee. Cooked breakfast available if paid for.
milk cartons in room for tea tasted funny.
The atmosphere in the bar and lounge area.very nice weekend apart from the cold bedroom.
Room 5 has got a draughty window .stair area of room cold as well .
Nice and quiet room!
Breakfast was a bit chaotic, not enough staff !
Atmosphere very friendly staff excellent food great accommodation
Room itself, spacious, nicely decorated, clean. Good value for money with continental breakfast included in the price.
Plumbing in Room 1 (castle room) awful. Water running down sink bubbles up in the bath along with 'bits' and truly horrendous eggy/ sulphurous smell. Really lets down a good room. Hairdryer broken.
Location,excellent breakfast, unhurried checkout.
The pub is lovely and the staff great. Food was tasty.
The mattress on the bed was very uncomfortable, you could feel the springs when lying down. The furniture was in a poor state of repair. The shower curtain was mouldy and their were 2 squashed bugs on the bathroom ceiling. One of the electrical plugs did not work. You have to ask at the bar in the pub if you want toiletries. Although they are available if you ask I would expect complimentary toiletries to be in the room for the price we paid for the room.
From the minute we checked in to checking out the staff were attentive, courteous & friendly. They made travelling with a 1year old easy & enjoyable
Great old fashioned English Country Pub on the outskirts of Chester. The menu is simple but the foot was delicious We had a late lunch washed down with a couple of pints of real ale The staff were friendly and accommodating The rooms were a little on the small side but nevertheless our room was spotless and very comfortable We will return to stay again
Shame that a full English breakfast was an additional cost The included Continental breakfast consisted of serial, toast and a choice of cheese and yogurt A little disappointing
We loved the situation on the canal bank with the ability to stroll along the towpath in either direction and had chosen this hotel mainly for its location outwith the city. The bedrooms we saw were varied and quirky. Ours in the annexe backed on to the canal and were quiet. The food was very good pub grub with helpings for hearty appetites. This hotel does not pretend to be luxurious but is perfectly comfortable and provided everything that we needed for a three night stay for a family wedding in the area, including an iron and ironing board when we requested it. The staff were without exception friendly and helpful, readily providing information about local florists and taxis. The building and its grounds are attractive, even when we stayed in November, and I think it would be a delightful place to stay in summer.
There was nothing that we didn't like. Standard breakfast is continental, but for a very reasonable surcharge you can have a full English breakfast comprising almost anything you would want.
Near Park and Ride and the canal. Good food and cosy atmosphere in the bar. In warmer weather there are many outside seating areas, Good free Parking.
Some road noise from the busy A41.Bed a bit hard. Hair dryers need replacing, they cut out after 30 seconds. The Manager assured us they are in the process of being replaced.
Friendliness; clean; arranged for early check-in to enable us to get to a wedding
Nothing of note
Great location, friendly staff, good food, good beer, lovely room.
Value for money Easy access to Chester via Park and Ride Rooms were warm and cosy with all the basics. Furniture a bit tired but for the price, no complaints from us. Warm and friendly staff
The bed was very small
Very convenient for park and ride bus into Chester. Lovely outside seating area in the Chesire Cat, ideal for summer days.
Lack of lounge area.
Staff were friendly and helpful, with great local knowledge, room was a lot bigger than most family rooms as thereare four of us, great breakfast.
Everything - food was delicious, busy staff always happy and friendly. Stayed in the anex which was lovely and cosy
No being able to bring our dog
The welcome from the staff at check in, the size of the room and the quality of the evening meal.
Really liked the hotel, we stayed in the out building. Large room and bathroom. Location was great for us, just outside of chester right next to the canal. Enjoyed an evening meal in the pub, lovely waitresses.
The bed was rock solid! Not a very comfy nights sleep unless you like your mattress very hard! Just a couple of niggles. . . Couple of bulbs out and a couple of cobwebs on the ceiling. My husband found the room too hot but I personally like it toasty !
Good location and very friendly staff. Good choice of real ales and food in the restaurant was first class with excellent service. Spacious room in the main building and very good value for money. Will definitely stay again next time I am in the area.
Staff very friendly, food un-fussy but good.
We were staying for 4 days and arrived early in the morning knowing we couldn't book in until 3pm. We was given a warm welcome on arriving and decided to have a drink and look around the village but the manager said he would see if our room was available for us and within 20 minutes we were shown to our room . All the staff were very friendly and always had time to ask how our day was. One evening when we went down for our evening meal, I was feeling under the weather with a head cold and cough,we ordered our meals and while waiting for them the young girl serving us brought me a glass of hot water, honey and lemon without even asking which I thought was very kind and unexpected. We will definitely be visiting again.
We stayed in room 9 in the annex and although it was a comfortable room the layout could be set out differently allowing a couple of chairs to be put in. Otherwise I couldn't fault it.
