The first room we were in was so small and noisy so as we were staying for 5 nights we changed rooms, the second was so much better spacious comfortable and clean. the cleanliness of the restaurant -bar area was disgraceful, we had breakfast at the same table every morning (5) and the same dead flies were on the window sill, the carpets were dirty and the walls splattered with food marks. On first morning i asked for some more clear honey as the honey they had on offer had crystallised, which is caused by incorrect storage,i said i liked to have it every morning, they said the honey was fine to eat as it was,,i,ve been a chef in a holiday complex for 23 years and we would never serve honey that had crystallised. I thought they would have got some fresh honey in for the next morning but it was the exact same bowl of honey as the first morning and so it was for all 5 mornings. I did say it shouldn't be served like that and that i was in the same kind of job , but was just told it,s ok to eat.

The Inn was very busy on the Saturday we arrived and there was no problem in booking in for an evening meal at the time of our choice. The same was the case for the following two nights. Two of the main course choices were not available but there was a wide choice of alternatives. The food was delicious and well presented. Service on one of the nights was slow and haphazard but this wasn't the case on the other two nights. The room was very clean and had all that we required. The Kestrel Inn is ideally placed for visiting Knaresborough, Harrogate and York. Sadly we immediately realized that this was not going to be a quiet room. The floor boards were very creaky, along with very creaky floorboards in the room next to us. That combined with paper-thin walls where one could hear the TV and conversations meant that one could not totally relax. Creaky floorboards during the night, for a light sleeper, were not ideal. Noise from the road was a potential problem but the double glazing was effective. The weather was cold so we were able to keep the window closed. In the summer this may present a different situation. I would suggest also that mattress protectors should be put onto the beds to prolong their life!

Excellent staff. Large attractive rooms. Enjoyable, reasonably priced lunch. Plenty of free parking. Rooms could be noisy at times, though this didn't affect my night's sleep.

Compared with my previous visit the standard throughout had dropped to an unacceptable level Food reheated, candle fat on the cushions, floor and surfaces dirty. The general impression was of a unit which urgently requires a complete makeover.

The location was excellent and the staff were wonderful, allowing us to check in 3 hours early as we were at a wedding at nearby Rudding Park The walls were a little thin and the hallway was very noisy, felt a bit like people were in your room.

Great atmosphere, very friendly staff who made us feel so welcome, food was amazing, very clean rooms with probably the comfiest bed I've ever stayed away in! I know it's an oldy world pub, but the squeaky floor boards did get a bit annoying

Good menu, quaint place. Lovely hot water and warm room. Very creaky floorboards - heard everybody moving about day and night! Hard mattress. Cobwebs on beams in bedroom. Had to wait a while to check in and to be served in the bar.

The close proximity to Harrogate and the very good tariff for a hotel near to a very expensive city for accomodation. On arrival the temperature of the room was unbearable and the shower temperature was difficult to control oth er than these points everything was ver good.

Old World atmosphere with timber beams and open fires. Staff were very friendly and keen to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. The boiler system needs updating as it was unreliable and prone to failure. The old floor boards are very noisy so not the quietest of hotels.

The premises and location were ideal. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast was lovely and the evening meals were of a high standard. Access to Harrogate was great. It was quite noisy on an evening between 9pm and 11pm with people coming and going in the corridors upstairs.
