We enjoyed the cosy atmosphere, complete with open fires and lovely food. We also appreciated the proximity to Sheffield and the Peak District.
Wi-Fi a bit hit and miss.
Friendly, welcoming and accommodating staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Clean, comfortable accomodation at a goid price . An ideal location to base a stay in the Peak District
Mobile phone signal isn't very good, but staff offered use on landline, so this wasn't an issue for us.
Staff were attentive Great greeting felt welcomed Food good quality nice choice Open fires wonderful
wi fi - would be good to have a stronger signal
The warmest welcome by lovely staff. Beautiful cosy interior. Delicious food and lovely room, can't wait to stay again we have already rebooked
Well appointed room. Good amenities. Plenty of tea, coffee, milk sugar etc. Friendly and helpful staff. Plenty of free parking. Free O2 wifi. Great bathroom and very clean
No mattress protectors.!!!!! We had a family room as I took my elderly mother away however no single beds available only a rather hard sofa bed which was not suitable for either of us. Wifi patchy at best.
The staff were absolutly amazing,so friendly! The room was beautiful! Location perfect.evrning meal so tastey! Loved the sherry! Breakfast lovely.
The pillows were not solid enough ( as in they are very bitty almost like stuffing had broken) and could feel the springs in the bed that woke up feeling achy :( .may be the bed needs a thick/soft mattress topper. We would def come back again but I would probably bring my own pillows.
Style of the bar and eating area Comfort of the room
Great all round experience.
Mattress surprisingly had no mattress protector, but was clean. It was rather uncomfortable. Also I don't understand why there is only a quilt available and no lighter cover. Even with heating turned down, we are not used to doonas. This has been the case all through UK.
Excellent Room Setting Atmosphere
Main Road though not intrusive Meal only average this time A little chaotic checking in
- Large, comfortable rooms - Good breakfast selection - Right in the middle of several trails, great access to Stanage Edge, Hathersage, etc., there's also a relatively frequent bus (272) stopping just outside the place going to Sheffield/Castleton
- Restaurant-style pub a bit too formal if you're just looking for a regular pub
Nice old building, staff were excellent; location and good value
As with most old buildings in a rural location you suffer with poor mobile reception. Hardly an issue.
Every thing, Staff very helpful good food. Perfect for walking highly recommend xxx
The rooms are part of an historic pub that is surrounded by moorland. The location is superb if you are walkers, cyclers or similar and wish to enjoy the moors above Hathersage and Grindleford. The food is very good and the menu varied. The staff are very friendly. An excellent base.
Great staff, always helpful. Very reasonable price.
At that price, no complaints at all.
The location was good for visiting the attractions, walking and cycling in the Peaks. The food and family room were all of a good standard and the staff were pleasant and helpfull.
There wasn't anything we didn't like.
Staff could not do enough, everyone was so friendly Good food Location for bakewell was good Very good location for walking, cycling etc. Bed was very comfortable Shower very good The decor was very good, loved the carpet!
Pay for wifi Ground floor noisy, could hear upstairs residents moving around. Full english breakfast could have been an option When we initially arrived the tables in the bar had plates and glasses etc which needed clearing up, which it was later when we had evening meal.
Busy bank holiday weekend but staff were still welcoming and friendly. Large bedroom set away from the pub building. Breakfast is continental, plenty of fresh food to eat. Food and hot drinks topped up regularly so never short. Special touches given as we received a bottle of champagne in bedroom for anniversary gift. Lovely location for walking and cycling and short walk to national trust longshaw estate.
Felt like home from home. very relaxing in cottage style furnishings and decor. Beautiful surroundings and magnificent views. Friendly and attentative staff!
Nice room ,good location, and very friendly staff.

Waiting to check in after a long driv
We stayed for three nights and enjoyed comfortable accommodation, the staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. Would highly recommend it.
Wi-fi was available free of charge but the reception was very poor.
Comfortable, spacious family room. Clean with good facilities. Well stocked hospitality tray. Complimentary items available if needed such as sewing kit, razor etc. Good to be able to contact the hotel directly on a standard landline without using expensive 08 numbers and waiting for ages for an answer. Continental breakfast had plenty of choice and cooked breakfast available at a cost if preferred.
Too far out of Hathersage for an an evening stroll. Poor wi-fi connection and speed.
Good value if booked in advance. Big family room, clean and quiet. Location is perfect for walking. There were no surcharges for parking or breakfast either.
Probably not perfect for families with very small children because of busy road.
Only stayed for one night but loved the place. The restaurant/pub area was gorgeous and we had a great breakfast with some lovely English muffins. There is a beautiful walk just across the road.
The phone number listed on my reservation from booking.com directed me to a main office that closes at 6pm. Not much use when you are a bit lost at 10 at night! this may be an error on booking.com s behalf though.
