Good food, clean and friendly
Bed was a bit too hard for me but still got to sleep.
Large room, comfortable beds. Noise from A2 OK with windows shut. Room clean. Good breakfast and very friendly staff in breakfast room. Plenty of parking spaces, easy to find from A2. Would stay again if travelling to Dover for ferry, but will then pay small surcharge for lakeview (=away from A2).
(1) The hotel 'pre-authorises' your credit card a couple of days before you arrive. If you want to pay with a different card upon arrival, they tell you that you can do so, but the amount will still be blocked on the original card for several days. Not exactly great attitude. (2) Upon check-in, reception will give you a small piece of paper to put on the car dashboard "so you don't get a ticket". Did not make sense to us, we couldn't see who would want to park there unless you are staying overnight anyway. (3) Shower head needs unblocking. (4) Rather intense smell in room, possibly from cleaning detergent? (5) Fire alarm went off for 5 minutes at 6:40 a.m..
Location, food, staff all good
Room and bathroom could do with modernising and refurnishing
Excellent standard of cleanliness in our lakeside room with a clear and attractive view of lake. Food very good - both buffet for reception and breakfast next day.
Room very dated and bathroom quite frankly was tatty. Bedding, although clean, was also very worn and thin - the sheet had a hole in it! Pillows also rather well-used.
Had a room near what sounded like a water tank that sounded like it was continually filling up but to be fair there was someone looking at it first thing in the morning !
First night I stayed here I thought I'd made a terrible mistake. Lots of rough builders and plumbers and sparky's as guests. I felt out of rep world and into another world, with more screwdrivers and hods and less tech. Car park was like an explosion in a subsidence experiment. Route there was circuitous. However... over time I started to like the seventies style and value for money honesty. Its few frills, many nostalgic decor decisions and amazingly accurate 80s dining, which is great VFM. All together its OK. I'd stay here again with a smile on my face. The people are great. The hotel is genuine.
Not amazing food. The menu for the stroganoff states "duo of mushrooms" they mean "two sliced mushrooms" were the base of the dish. Too much cream, not enough mushrooms, no paprika. If its a price conscious choice, lower the cream and raise the mushroom count. Food is basic, a half a tomato on a cup of Uncle Ben's long grain rice... is comedic. Looks like a boob! Or something from the seventies. Place is OK, with a front side onto the M2/A2 and another side looking at a "lake". Place really tries with many theme nights which puts residents into second place for service. I'll stay here again.
Comfortable beds and nice sized rooms.
The website doesn't tell you the hotel is in fact right next to the motorway. The decor is old fashioned and feels a little like a seventies American motel.
Room, breakfast, bath
Sheets smelt like builders, dusty
The quiet and peacefulness. Spacious room.
View out the window which was a car park. Toilet looked like it would overflow all the time. Light not correctly working.
The food was excellent with a reasonable choice
Limited area to relax, bar was like being in a workmans cafe with roadside cafe tables & chairs plus the workmen there! The room smelt like a cat had peed in it & the shower head leaked +++. A wedding party going on below kept us awake. We paid an extra £10 for a lakeside, smoking room yet got given an upstairs room instead of the downstairs with patio doors to the garden/lake. Website stated king size bed but no, appeared to be a small double........what more can I say. Won't be going again
The double room was larger than expected, warm and well laid out. The staff were friendly and very helpful even though there was a wedding function during our stay.
Shower head fell apart when I attempted to adjust the flow. There was a continuous low level of background noise from the motorway.
Cleanliness very poor
Peace and quiet
2pm check in would be better than 3pm.
could meet friends and eat and chat in bar area, reasonable selection of food and good prices.
Found jewellery on bed head so not been cleaned. Price was not as originally quoted.
When I booked originally it was for me and my mum but needed an extra bed for my nephew to stay in the room with us. It was no problem for the staff to arrange this for only a £10 charge.
Room was really really smelly
Room overlooked lake.
Clambering over bath to have a shower.
Location is great Lovely setting Value for money Great food
Miserable staff Room smelt of stale smoke (I know the hotel have switched from smoking to non smoking)
The view from the window was amazing, Bathroom was great. Loved that there were spare blankets.
There was no Iron or ironing board, the steamer couldn't work, the hair drier work for about a minute and then couldn't work anymore.
Facilities Breakfast Friendliness Proximity to everything
Clean & comfortable
No real character to the place
Good clean rooms with adequate facilities. The food was good and staff were very helpful.
Lack of air conditioning and unable to have window open during the night as we were on ground floor. The room was stifling, leaving us unable to have a good nights sleep before our long journey the next day.
Food was quite acceptable and value for money. Good breakfast choice something for all tastes, cooked breakfast was to a good standard.
Housekeeping, had to get sheets changed. Not the cleanest of rooms, i.e. carpet not brilliant (bits stuck to feet after walking without shoes) general overall impression not good. Decor like something from the 1980s needs updating especialy tiling in bathrtoom. Reception staff need a course in customer relations and welcome procedures, however dining room and bar staff very friendly and helpful.
Expensive for two dogs
