The Inn With The WellMalborough Road, Ogbourne St. George, SN8 1SQ Marlborough (Show map) Excellent, Score from 55 reviews“Very friendly, welcoming and courteous staff. The room was clean and pleasant.”
Helmut,
Brough
This charming family-run inn has an attractive and tranquil setting in the middle of the rolling Marlborough Downs, with great access to the region’s major road network. The Inn With The Well gets its name from the original well, which was built in the restaurant floor. Bulletproof glass has been used to provide a safe cover for the well, allowing you to stand on top and look down the 98-ft shaft of this impressive original feature. Originally established in 1647, this traditional coaching inn is situated on the Ridgeway path, Europe’s oldest highway. Today, the inn still has a convenient location, with good access to the area’s main roads. The inn is just off highway A346, only 5 minutes from exit 15 off highway M4. All of the comfortable accommodations have private bathrooms and are housed in a quiet separate building, apart from the main inn. Hotel Rooms: 6

Had a brilliant time, this is our second visit and it is home from home. The staff & owners do everything possible to make your stay relaxed and comfortable. Nothing is too much trouble even when hubby moaned on our last visit about not having a rubber ducky for his bath (stipulated on website) suddenly 3 turned up. The location is good for shopping / sight seeing / doing the touristy things and you are not far from all the Henges if the stones are your thing. The accomodation backs on to a busy main road through to Swindon but you hear no noise and the rooms are cosey and comfortable. The facilities from beds to bath are clean and fresh. The food is excellent, Mike's menu covers everything you would need for breakfast, lunch and dinner and Megan cooks it to perfection. Packed lunches are available but we have not experienced those yet - on the list for next time. Highly recommended for a long weekend getaway from the kids and if you are a coffee addict like myself, The Inn does the best in the County. I have yet to find anything I didnt like or felt uncomfortable with.

Megan and Mike Shaw (and Marley their lovely Labradior) make one very welcome. Initially I wondered if the Inn's proximiity to the main road/village by pass might make the room we had (no 3) noisy but it wasn't to us., The food was fine and quite a varied menu choice. If we needed to stay in the area again we would stay there on this experience. The Avebury Circle, village, church and Manor are well worth a visit. For me it was great going to the area again as I lived quite near there 40 (is it really that long?) years ago.Nioot Nothing of real significance.

The rooms were clean and tidy, with an extra heater if needed. The food in the main was good and plentiful. We only had breakfast once but this filled the gap for us for the journey that day and cooked the way we liked it. Heating outside the pub for smokers. Housekeeper was great the first morning as we woke late and she asked if we wanted towels Pub Dog & Cat great fun We would recommend to others with the exception of the comments below Breakfast times for people staying for none business purposes was too early 7:30 till 8:30 meant we had to get up early to eat, most hotels we stay in are to at least 9 or 9.30. I could not drink hot drinks in the room as the kettle needs a little attention to limescale (sorry!!)

This inn is rght on the Ridgeway and my favorite location for mountain bike trips. A fine selection of real ales in the friendly and relaxing bar. Very comfortable bed, piping hot water and ample fluffy white towels. Great breakfast. Some early morning road noise in upstairs room.

Everything from the welcome to the leaving. The food is fantastic pub style with a twist toward the gourmet and unknown. Be brave and try something new. From the host and hostess to Marley all smashing people and dog. They actually do have a well in the pub.

My bed was comfortable and the room was very clean. The shower pressure was good. 1- Its location. My bed was less than 100 feet away from a busy road that links Marlborough to m4. Just awful! 2- The shower didn't have proper protection for water to not splash on the floor. Half a glass door! Clearly set by someone who is ised to taking baths! 3- The breakfast service time was too early and somewhat limitted to one hour! From 7:30 till 8:30. 4- Over all, respective to all that, I found the price therefore too high for what this was.

We really enjoyed the ambiance of a country inn run by local folks. Price was good and location allowed for easy day trips to historical sights. Spacious rooms with all amenities and an actually tasty English breakfast were a treat after several weeks of European travel.

Convenient location and easy to access. Friendly welcome and helpful staff. We had dinner one night and it was a nice meal. My only real issue was that the area outside our room (our door opened onto the car park area) smelled strongly of what we decided must be cat pee. We could smell it inside the room, even with the windows closed. The smell might even have been from inside the room as well. We did report this to the owners on leaving. Other than that, our stay was very good.
