Overall the hotel and spa was good. The meals we're delicious
The fan in toilet didn't work, the bed was squeaky
The location is great as was the food,
Very poor management & disorganised staff.....nobody appeared to know what their particular role was thus resulting in confusion! The hotel itself is very dated & tired. It would benefit from a complete makeover including the majority of the staff with the exception of Vernon who was very professional & helpful.
Pool, hot tub & spa Comfortable room & beds Decor View with gardens to beach
Carrying luggage up & down stairs
Bedroom handles old fashioned and difficult to lock.
If you can ignore first impressions of the dingy exterior and entrance, you'll be rewarded with the perfectly framed and stunning views across to the mainland, Duart Castle and the ferry traversing back and forth to Oban. The food is very good, as is the service. But the things that let this hotel down were the desperately creaky floors above our room above and rubbish wifi which was only accessible, sometimes, in the public areas. The swimming pool, sauna and steam room were well maintained and putting the jacuzzi hot tub outside was inspired but rather odd only to have showers poolside. When it says the spa closes at 7.30, it means they start shutting things down just after 7.15 so time your visit carefully! All in all though the kids and I enjoyed our stay and very convenient for both the Fishnish and Craignure ferries (Tobermory is only half an hour drive away if like us you want to catch the ferry to visit the most westerly lighthouse in Ardnamurchan)
Creaky floors above our bedroom
grounds were very pretty. quite nice restaurant. mostly wonderful staff.
no elevator. long walk to my room shlepping baggage and having to negotiate stairs. no staff to help. (although at checkout i was able to get some help). pool closes too early.
Location on Mull!
- dirty - needs a renovation - staff/ managment is lazy - restaurant bad value for money - you can hear every noise your neighbor does in the bed
Decor and ambiance of the hotel.
No lift to floors all staircases.
Excellent location Good facilities Outstanding views Friendly staff Excellent food
Tired condition of fabric High costs at bar
Everything a hotel should be for a one night stay
The facilities were very old and in need of updating. The staff seemed gloomy and not friendly. Very noisy which made sleeping difficult--I could hear our neighbor's conversations very clearly. Wifi was slow even in the main area.
Friendly Staff, great location, good food.
Soundproofing between rooms.
The location of the hotel. The staff were very helpful. Good breakfast. Good dining facilities - (bar food and restaurant).
Restaurant meals were too fancy for our taste (so we had bar meals, which were lovely!)
Great food, friendly and helpful staff. Love the pool and spa.
Food was good and staff very helpful. Drinks at sensible prices.
Grounds, position, views.Good breakfast. Mostly friendly staff. Comfortable beds.
Staff too busy in lounge and some wines missing from selection. Did not know hotel breakfast routine and unaware of seating policy so embarrassed by one member of staff. Some towels thin and had holes. Toletries not replenished. Constant noise from ro above
General air of neglect, window frames needed moss cleaning off and paint putting on. Shower over the bath with in 2014! Temperature control so erratic had the abandon showering. Had to ask for a bath plug. Double bedroom with single bed head fastened to a side wall. Breakfast not warm enough
Location, view Access to Spa facilities Breakfast content and staff Bar food, drinks and staff
Welcoming staff at reception and spa
Swimming pool Location of hotel food
Good location for getting around Island. Pool and spa for relaxing.
Hotel needs some money spent on referbishment. Staff in dining room very brisk. Smell in room. Reception said someone would investigate, but no one did. Evening meal was a six course tasting menu, should cut out tasting courses and concentrate on better quality.
The walk was much further than I pictured which would be fine unless you are traveling without a car and carrying your luggage from the ferry. When leaving in the morning breakfast wasn't early enough for us to catch and it was pouring rain. Luckily, although the desk clerk was unconcerned, another kind employee overheard and drove us and our luggage to the ferry. Very nice! We and our luggage would have been soaked through. I would expect the hotel to have a little better set up.
pool view at breakfast
no wifi in rooms (it is 2014 after all)
The access and free entry to the spa and pool. The view from the bedroom.
Staff in the restaurant were pleasant, but the food took over 40 minutes to arrive. The price for the room.
Great location with views. Quite good service in bar area. A great collection of old photos are found in all the public areas - Many wonderful Highland characters and scenes of slaughter on the hills. Facilities good
If you are sent to the lower floor, it involves descending two sets of stairs, multiple fire doors, then up one flight of stairs - Not good when carrying suitcases, etc. Door locks very 'tired' and difficult to open and lock. Bathroom dreary with no shelf space for your toothbrush, etc Very thin walls - the guests above us took an hour to dress in the morning and we heard every step and movement.
