Convenient location The hotel is very inconvenient to get around in. It is "stretched out" with lots of stairs. You go up, then come back down several times. Our room was at the far end of the hotel, so we did lots of stairs and walking. Breakfast was ample and delicious.

Location was great and the night receptionist, the man who picked us up from the last boat late at night and also chef Billy were superb - special thanks especially to Billy for making sure we got the bus in the morning for our trip even though he was in the middle of his work...that's great service! Spa was a pool and sauna/steam room...this was nice with lovely view but is a little different from what I expected as Spas overseas have different heated pools so may confuse/dissappoint some foreign visitors. That said it is a good sized pool and the view is lovely.

the spa is beautiful...best part of the hotel. staff there lovely. food in the dining room was tasty but bread and butter pudding without fruit in it was strange. waiting staff required to be told several times to bring hot water with the tea each morning..on the worst morning it was requested 4 times before it came. items for the cooked breakfast were often not fresh and buffet dishes not replenished as should have been; we waited 45 mins for a bar meal, made an enquiry and realised that the kitchen had not been informed. Meal finally came after 75mins....and was not worth the wait. Overpriced and highly salted fish and chips..inedible. No compensation for our extra long wait. Very unpleasant. Foreign staff, whilst charming often did not understand us. Room was clean, but condensation on window every day and ensuite was stale and unpleasant and not improved when we complained. we bought a scented candle!

I left a written report saying that whilst we were basically happy with our stay we had 2 complaints. The mattress on the bed was way passed its used by date - the springs were poking through. And secondly after leaving the room in the morning with the 'Make up room' sign we returned at 3pm to find that the room had still not been serviced. Location Staff were friendly

The place needs a facelift. It is dirty and just looks worn down in most areas. The pool is not heated and the outdoor jacuzzi was not working. The bathroom still had an empty shampoo bottle from a previous guest.

The Wifi never worked (and I was told they did not know when an engineer would be available to repair it). They charged my credit card (more than they should have) without me being present and it took them a while to understand the mistake. In the end I was reimbursed. One of the rooms I stayed in had a wet carpet and in two days it did not dry up, the room was really humid. The window in one room could not be closed, in the other room it would not stay open. The food was not very good. They kept asking at what time I was going to have breakfast on the next day (and then asked me to chose a different time) because they had to arrange for bus tour groups in the breakfast room. Some of the staff members were quite nice, others did not seem to be competent at all. But what bothered me most was being without wifi for 4 days (free wifi had been a major reason for chosing the hotel in the first place).

The location! I have nothing good to say about this tired scruffy hotel. The staff were also tired and had to be pressed to offer assistance. The room was tired and scruffy. The shower did not function properly. The bed was uncomfortable. We were given a room on the bottom floor with no view and told there was no chance of moving despite having booked online weeks before hand. The waiter service was poor in the restaurant. The cutlery and wine glasses were dirty. Tables were not clean and staff were wiping tables with dirty cloths. The food was basic and the chef not interested. Combine all of this with the exhorbitant price we were charged £295 for 2 nights and then we had to pay for our meals on top. A disgrace - We will never use this hotel again.

The views were incredible. The service was extremely poor - staff wouldn't stick around long enough to get your complete order (dinner or breakfast), and then get frustrated when you had more requests. Food was awful, and they weren't able to make everything on the menu. An all round bad experience, and I would advise people to look at other options, or stick to day trips.

Nothing I go much and stopped in many hotels, but such bad hotel didn't meet for a long time. Any service from the personnel could be received only after repeated requirements, us refused to feed with a breakfast at a fixed time because simultaneously with us tourists from two tourist buses should затракать. In the morning we couldn't leave in time hotel because there was no the personnel, capable to accept payment. And when the employee has appeared, he has told that didn't plan to work so early. I reserved numbers for myself and the friends, but pay everyone for the number we couldn't because of hotel requirements as there was one order. It isn't clear, we have passed all Scotland and only here meet with such requirements. Problems with water. At my friends the lock in a room has been broken and at first they couldn't get to it, and have been then compelled not to lock a door absolutely. To anybody categorically I do not recommend to stay in this hotel!!!

I have stayed here before and came back as I love the excellent views from the bar, restaurant and rooms and it is such a convenient location for exploring the island. The staff worked extremely hard but were always cheerful and helpful. My room was very comfortable and had everything I needed. The food had improved since I was last there but still lacks a little imagination though it is still good value for money.

“I liked the friendliness of the staff, the relaxed green, wood and leather public rooms. The old photos on the wall of life in Oban a long time back were found in the hotel attic, and give excellent original atmosphere to a seafront hotel. The hotel is right on Oban Bay.” Alan, Ayr |
