Staff were welcoming and friendly. What the hotel lacked in personality they made up for. The room price was reasonable. Very old fashioned decor. Small bedroom and very hot, couldn't open window. Breakfast had overcooked hot buffet, served and left standing, shame because the choice was good.

Not an executive room, noisy in morning as above kitchen, small and uncomfortable bed, very tired decor throughout hotel, breakfast area verybshabby and service shocking. If two star and £40 ok but for £95 is significantly overpriced, will not return.

On arrival reception was not manned - mentioned to the member of staff who checked me in that the toilets had quite a pungent smell which met me at the top of the stairs! She didn't seem too bothered. The first room I was given had not been serviced by the chambermaid - thankfully I was moved up to an exceutive room which was not the cleanest- the decor was well worn. Communication for room service was difficult resulting in Chips and rice served with a thai curry -however the food was very good

Full english breakfast was wholesome, well prepared and always fresh. The staff were helpful when we required a taxi and none were available - they provided hotel van. Rooms were clean, reasonable towels (as opposed to old worn and cloths) and had lots of lights… useful on a dull day. Paying £10 a day for internet - this is over the top. If not free, should be around £4-6/day or 10/stay. The room i had was a long way down lots of corridors … and on the main road. No views. Beds were so soft/springy I almost disappeared into it.

nothing really Got the feeling that coach parties and functions are more important than private guests. Croisants & yogurt had run out by 8am - requested but not replenished. Sausages were cheap, bulk produced, not what you'd expect for the price. Maybe what you'd expect on a coach trip! Rooms noisy & poorly sound insulated. Hotel literature says "recently refurbished to a high standard" but it gives impression of an old peoples' home. On depart receptionist asked how our stay had been. I replied "OK but nothing special". She said nothing. I guessed I wasn't the first!! Conclusion: not value for money & won't stay again.

The hotel is getting very tired. Fan did not work in bathroom. Bathroom tiles were black in corner next to shower. Window has not been cleaned for sometime. Breakfast was not hot. Even though I ate at 7.30am it was only luke warm.

Staff are always so friendly. Also I love that the gym is accessable 24 hours a day. The bar food was nice and they're happy to make a hot breakfast if it's not part of the morning's buffet. Very limited tv channels - couldn't watch Glee! The room this time was a bit tired, clearly not one of the refurbished ones. Free internet on a business trip is something all hotels in the UK should provide. It's £10 for 12 hours here and that adds up over a week.

The welcome at reception on arrival was excellent and the member of staff very helpful. There was a coach party staying and we thought an evening meal might have been busy but as independant guests we were seated in a separate room which made our meal very pleasant. The food quality was also excellent and the staff very helpful. We booked an executive room which was very spacious and clean although the decor needs updating and does appear a little tired. The staff member at check out was very offhand and did not even bother to ask if we had had a nice stay or even thanked us for our custom, we were just grateful that she was not there when we checked in.

“I found the Spilman staff to be quite hospitable and attentive to my needs (particularly as I was a visitor from the US, and much less relaxed a traveler than in my youth!). The food was excellent, and my room was comfortable and quiet. I would unreservedly recommend the Spilman to anyone, regardless of origin point!” Peter, Edison |
