The JD Young Hotel is situated next to the market square in the centre of Harleston. Harleston is a quaint, traditional market town located in the heart of East Anglia. Mentioned in the Doomsday Book, it is a town full of historic and traditional buildings with a market every Wednesday.
Harleston has good access to the A140, the A143 and the whole of the region’s major road network. The town is close to the main routes between Ipswich and Norwich, as well as Bury St. Edmunds and Great Yarmouth. The town lies close to the River Waveney, and the local area boasts several lakes where a fishing enthusiast can be sure of a good day out. The lakes are also great for sailing or windsurfing, if those activities are more to your taste. The area also provides many good walks and the Angles Way runs through Harleston, on its way to Bungay and the coast.
The hotel is a great base from which to reach many of East Anglia’s attractions. Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft are a 40-minute drive away and Norwich, with its fine historic buildings and castle, is only 25 minutes’ drive to the north. Harleston is also within easy reach of the Broads and the North Norfolk coast.
There are also several golf clubs in the area, the nearest of which is Bungay Golf Club, 8 miles (13 km) from the hotel. This is an in-land heath land course with 18 holes. Diss Golf Club is 9 miles (14.5 km) away and is an 18-hole golf course. Beccles Golf Club is 12 miles away and is a 9-hole course on common land, offering visitors facilities on a pay-and-play basis.
Harleston is only 2 hours from London.
By Car (from the A14, heading west towards Ipswich):
- A few miles past Stowmarket on the A14, there is a junction for the A140.

- Follow this road through into Harleston, where you will come to the marketplace.
- The JD Young Hotel overlooks the marketplace and is easy to locate.
