The name of the hotel had been changed and there was nothing to suggest anywhere near the entrance to the hotel that the hotel was formerly called Ramada.

the situation - close to the centre of Edinburgh There was an incredible strong smell of smoke in our room, although the hotel said they have a total non-smoking policy. We asked to be moved to another room but were advised that there was nothing avilable, except by down-grading to a smaller room. The Reception Desk staff left quite a lot to be desired; they were not particularly helpful or polite In fact we felt it would be a recommendation that they undertake a course in how to handle their customers.

Not very much, if I'm honest. The bed was comfy. The tv worked. It was vastly overpriced - £285 for two nights! Even taking account of it being a goo central location, and during the Edinburgh Festival, this was not value for money. The room was noisy - looking over the heating control central systems (well I thnik that's what it was!). Even with my ear-plugs I could not escape the noise. The room was stuffy and too warm, with no air-con, so to get any air you had to keep the window open, thereby inviting more noise. The bathroom was no more than adequate - tiny towels, and the sink, taps etc. looked old and tired. I never thought I'd hear myself say this but the Premier Inn facilities are far better.

Quick booking in, very good breakfast. Very quiet hotel and clean. No safe in room as in other hotels I have visited in Edinburgh.Bathroom shower very slow also going hot and cold all of the time. Toiletries supplied not very good, IE:did not last my stay and were not replenished, also no body lotion. No newspapers for guests in the so called lounge, other than a free copy of metro.i would still use this hotel

Great location We were quoted £8 per person for breakfast on booking.com and charged £11.90 per person in the restaurent ,when we complained to the assisant manager he told us if we booked breakfast at recption it would cost £9 per person. Thats three different prices for breakfast a rip off

The hotel was fine and suited my purposes - staff in particular were very helpful. However, I did not receive a paper despite requesting one on both mornings. Also, the shower was very very weak - this could do with an upgrade. Location, however, is ideal for Edinburgh.

the location was great, being right beside Waverly station and so close to the Royal Mile. The door to my room stuck and we had to use a lot of force to open the door. Also, it got loud early in the morning on Princes Street, which hindered my sleep.

The hotel was very central and was the perfect location for our trip to Edinburgh! We felt it was quite expensive and that the hotel had an overall slightly run down look about it. This was surprising because of the prices they were charging.

Location is very good because it is locatsed in the middle of castle and new town. Don't flow the water in the toilet. We were 2 persons in the double room, but only one towel was prepared. We had heard the voice and noise of the room next to mine too much. (wall is thin?)

Room good and very comfortable. Bathroom decore getting a little tired. In need of a makeover. Breakfast excellent. Hotel in good location for shops, train & castle. Very busy at checkout. Not well organised. No obvious facility for quick checkout which was all we needed. Had to wait in queue behind general enquiries, baggage deposits and complicated checkouts.

Excellent location on Princess Street, close to all bus stops and Waverley Station plus a good view of the Edinburgh Castle and Old Town. Good breakfast though a bit pricy. Cleanliness up to standard and expectations. Staff very helpful.

This hotel was Ok but nothing special. I found the room small. The provision of towels was particularly poor and the toilet did not flush properly.I had regular problems with with my key card and had to keep on going to reception to have it re-swipped.Would I stay there again ? probably not. However the staff were all friendly and courteous.

On arrival at 11pm, there was a group of intimidating young men around the front door. I felt vulnerable getting to the lift on the ground floor to reach reception on 1st floor. on leaving the lift on the 1st floor, there was a strong smell of urine coming from the public toilets. My room smelled of drains, but after a very long journey, I needed to sleep rather than complain. I understand groups of young people were knocking on guests doors all night - not what I expected from a Mercure hotel!!

I must say that I enjoyed the weekend, its a lovely setting, and our room looked out to the castle. The staff were always helpful, My only complaint was the single bed, it felt like a trampoline, every time I moved I thought I would bounce off. As I have said the bed!!!
