Staff couldnt do enough for you
our bathroom could do with updating, looking a bit tired.
Enjoyed the wedding held there for my friends. The grouds were lovely.
Hotel in general was a bit grubby and looked like it needed a fresh lick of psint and some new curtains and carpets. Our room was on floor 4 which in itself is fine but when lugging bags up stairs with no lift was a bit difficult and no one offered to assist us with our bags. In addition, the room was like a sauna and smelt like a hospital but was generally clean.
Location and free wi-fi
The deco outdated, bathroom was not very clean and not many choices in the restaurant menu for vegetarians.
Our room on the fourth floor was very hot considering the cool September temperatures. This resulted in a very poor nights sleep.
The Hotel is set within its own lovely peaceful gardens. The staff were excellent the room we had was a standard room which was a lovely size everything you needed with an option to upgrade if you wanted. We only had breakfast during our stay which I must say was very good with a menu to cater for all.
The only thing I found we were on the third floor and there was no lift we didn't need a lift but I should imagine it could be a little awkward for some people especially anyone disabled. The hotel I noticed does have a stair lift to the 1st floor
Quiet, efficient service, nice breakfast. Clean bedrooms, hot water, good wifi
Little bit run down in reception, carpets etc
Sleep was fantastic, food was ok, room was substantial. Have stayed in better for less
Staff were a dishevelled, confused and robotic.
Staff were friendly and extremely helpful, couldn't fault anyone who dealt with us. Beautiful building and grounds. Main dining area was lovely. Good powerful shower with plenty of hot water. On balance the room was good value for money. There was a wedding reception going on but we didn't hear a thing which was great.
Room -427- was a little tired -needed a face-lift particularly the bathroom. Room on 4th floor but no lift so would be a nightmare with a lot of luggage. Breakfast buffet was poorly stocked-no eggs ready and very little of the rest of the not so full English breakfast. Only 1 bath towel in double room with two registered guests which was a small but annoying oversight. Spare towel in a plastic bag on high shelf in wardrobe - not very obvious place to find it.
Pretty location, lovely building, quite convenient for Gloucester
Given that there is no gym or other leisure facilities, it is a pity that they do not make available all the Freeview TV channels. The selection is very limited, given that so many are available for free. The food choice is also pretty limited - particularly in the restaurant. There was a delicious chocolate torte, but it was rather spoilt by a base that seemed to be made of concrete.
Stuffy air in most of the hotel
Room Meal Breakfast
Receptionist Sue was friendly and welcoming, despite having a large wedding to deal with as well. Our room was very comfortable, the bed was very large and comfortable. The breakfast was full English and plenty of it, once the trays was filled up. Could have done with more shampoo etc: luckily we had brought our own. Our stay was just what we wanted The grounds are lovely, well maintained and afford a wonderful view towards Gloucester
Breakfast Staff might have been a bit more attentive to empty dishes Our automatic curtain didn't work, this wasn't resolved despite us reporting it.
Location/grounds Staff/service Beds
No elevators so carrying a baby and luggage isnt as convenient. However plenty of staff available to help!
lovely location very spacious lounge, our room was comfortable nice outlook and quite roomy and comfortable all the staff were very helpful and polite, although we only had breakfast it was lovely lots of choices we enjoyed our stay very much and we would certainly return
we didn't actually have any dislikes
Bathroom was a bit dated and very poor view from room 231 , windows very dirty. Not a lot around the hotel to do , ok for very quiet break and if you don't mind hotel priced food and drink otherwise need to travel .
Friendly staff, good food.
No lift, altho we were offered help with our luggage.
Beeing woken at 3am and again at 4:30am. By the sounds of people loading heavy items onto a truck. 123 heave 123 heave is not the alarm call I was expecting.
Building is stunning, so is location. Very good size room. Huge bed. Quite Good choice of latest films available, they were included in room price. Very friendly and generally helpful staff, especially reception. Minor problems were mostly fixed promptly. Ducks were entertaining.
Needs decor, appliances, etc updating desperately. Not worth the price. Food wasn't great, almost burnt and expensive for what it was. Also seems to be similar menu if dine in restaurant, bar or have room service. Asked to replace item on menu, was told that was fine, but then didn't get replaced item. Was told the chef was Swedish as a joke but no apology or offer to rectify their mistake. Very expensive bar. Wifi very slow in room, changed to new room, was fine, except had blocked wash basin, people's possessions had been left in the room, light in bathroom didn't work and two lights flickered above bed. Most rectified quickly but although bulbs changed in bedroom, still flickered. Uncomfortable bed. Location means need to drive anywhere. No fridge in room. Private Wedding on Friday. night, wasn't warned & told couldn't use restaurant at all, Noisey and there was another party so had to go to other smaller bar. How this place got 4 stars and such a high rating on this site I will never know. Perhaps we were unlucky! Had booked 4 nights and left a day early.
The bed was ok
We arrived at 8:30pm There was a wedding and loud music which we were not made aware of. There was nowhere to eat, the bar was ten deep with drunk people. Once actually getting to the bar we were told that the chef had left so we could only have tuna sandwiches or chicken tikka. Which we didn't like!! The service was less than helpful and the drinks were massively overpriced. One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in!
The location, and receptions and bar staff were very good. The room was nice, bit dark, but roomy. Breakfast was great
night staff when called to ask them to deal with an argument next door that kept me awake for hours, didn't come and resolve it so it lasted until around 6am.
Staff friendliness and helpfulness
Family rooms small. Air con in room noisy
The 44 steps to the room. The food.
Everything especially the very large suite I was given.
The price. Very expensive for one night for work. Everywhere else was full.
