Less than a mile from the historic center of York, this hotel, which was built in 1870, retains stained glass windows and a splendid oak staircase.

Score from 1022 reviews Very good
Hotel was in a good location, very easy to find and good access to York via the Rawcliff Bar Park and Ride. Very good hotel with comfortable, clean rooms and good choices at breakfast.
Not the hotel's fault but because there was a Wedding on there wasn't really anywhere quiet to sit in the evening as the wedding party tended to spill out into the bar, reception and lounge areas. It was also quite open and a bit chilly every time the front doors by reception opened. Could do with sectioning off the lounge a bit more and making it a bit more cosy.
situated within easy walking distance to a park and ride. quiet location although on the A19.
our room was above the dining room if there was a function, the noise of the furniture being reset was very loud in the early morning
nice rooms and quiete
evening meals rather expensive
comfortable, clean, good food
Location of hotel was good only five or so miles from York. Bed was extremely comfortable and breakfast was good with a good choice
Shower in room was freezing cold and there was a lot of door banging throughout the night
Comfortable hotel, spacious room, room very clean when we booked in, friendly staff and good food. Great location, but as an independent traveller you really need a car, or plenty of money for taxis.
daily housekeeping not brilliant, room located up 2 flights of stairs at back of hotel
Lovely hotel close to the park &ride for York Very good food.
Nothing I can think of.
Good location Nice big rooms Efficient staff
No hot water in our room!!!
Hotel was nice and clean, breakfast good. Rooms spacious, staff friendly
Bed moved around Food was pricey even in the bar Not much around locally
no sky tv
Pillows were too hard
Location and grounds are good. The first impression of the hotel is good and reception and bar area are pleasant
The room although "quiet room" requested on booking suffered from noise from the nearby railway line and noise from plumbing/heating system. The floorboards were creaky and the decor and furnishings a bit dated. The bed mattress was too firm for my comfort.
BIT PRICEY FOR BASIC
We liked everything, the staff were exceptional, could not do enough, from Wayne on reception to the guys in the breakfast room, to the cleaning staff, all so so nice, thank you all. We were a group of ten in York for the races, each of us were very happy, lovely hotel, great grounds.
If I have to be very picky, did not like the fried bread at breakfast, did not like the oil it was cooked in, but that was just my preference.
The welcome Breakfast Bar staff Evening meals
Price of alcohol
The breakfast buffet and service was very good
Our room (401) window looked out into three brick walls The bar prices were quite high thus there were very few residents drinking
Staff were tremendously friendly and helpful. Bed was comfortable. Hotel has a lift. Everything was very clean. 10 minute drive to city centre.
Bathroom a bit shabby (but still clean), with a noisy fan.
Friendly, very helpful staff, ideal location for York and major routes, nice large well-equipped room, the only slight criticism is a narrow bath! Lobby almost too well air-conditioned on a sweltering hot day, cardigan needed! Breakfast very tasty and masses of choice.
Unfortunately there was a wedding reception the same day and the weather was poor meaning every time we left or arrived, we had to push past lots of smokers right outside the front door (who never offered to move), and get covered in smoke. It also meant that a "quiet" drink in the bar the same evening, was anything but quiet!
I was being told 'online' that there were no rooms available for myself and disabled son. ( I needed a Family Room for the 3 of us). I rand Accor and was told also that I couldnt have a 3 bed room...even though we had stayed there before. I telephoned the Hotel and spoke to Wayne (EXCELLENT member of staff) and he sorted me out ...no problem! It was very hot during our 3 night stay but thankfully we had a dual aspect room and a fan .
Friendly staff comfy bed good food
Staff response to help was positive.
There was only one set of toiletries for the two of us and we had to request a second set of towels. The bottom sheet on the bed stopped 30cm short of the end of the mattress!
We liked location the staff friendly and helpfull rooms adaquate and clean bar area comfy clean and cosey corners the grounds looked good to although raining so could'nr explore to much
For a £180 a night no safe in room also no breakfast included would of expected better complimentry tea coffee facilities to include cookies/ biscuits hot chocolate etc also an iron in the room would be good
We loved the rabbits.
Nice lounge area and restaurant
On suite bathrooms could do with updating some looking tatty.
