Room was quite small (fair enough, booked as "compact double"). Outlook onto inner courtyard, no view. Openable windows. Main room dislike was poor lighting over mirrors in both bedroom and en-suite - couldn't see well enough to apply make-up or clean teeth. Was OK for reading over the bed.
Breakfast was not included - though a good choice was available for the same price, £10, which included smoked salmon and Eggs Benedict.
Evening meal, taken as part of business briefing with group of colleagues in a booked room, was poor value; £35 for soup, a bread roll handed out with no side plate, a poor quality roast, albeit with a reasonable (plated up not offered) vegetable selection, and 2 plated up Hasselback new potatoes, no mash, no extra veg or potatoes offered, nor a boat of gravy, which was pre-added, followed by a reasonable, though not exciting, fruit salad, with no cream offered. No tea or coffee included, though a glass of wine was, whether or not one drank alcohol. A jug of water had to be requested. Would have been reasonable, and with better quality and greater quantity of meat, in any Sunday carvery for £10. and at £35 should have been better served and included those extras in my view.Still felt hungry after the meal, and I do not have a large appetite as a rule.
Would like the option to take the dog, and am always prepared to pay extra for any extra cleaning for this, though seldom necessary. Failing that, would like to see hotels develop a link with a reliable boarding kennel nearby. Spoilt my weekend - would have liked to have had a day's walking with the dog in the Brecon Beacons on the way home!
Lovely welcome and chatty staff.
Smartly decorated. En-suite had stylish modern fittings, including "free-standing" washbasin, glass shower door rather than shower curtain, and lovely rainwater shower
Nice to have offer of fresh milk on arrival (though room would be improved by addition of little fridge to keep it in, there would be space). Some nice touches; little bowl of sweeties, home-made shortcakes in the shape of ducks, bottles of still and fizzy water provided, short-legged ironing board (to use on the bed) hanging up in the wardrobe with an iron, hairdryer, fan provided. Button with red light for "do not disturb", (though the cleaning staff still knocked in the morning before I was ready!)
