Location for university and shops, parks etc.
No parking. We fortunately could use our son's residence parking. Would not have booked otherwise as parking a premium for us.
Excellent checkin and checkout, very attentive efficient staff. Problem with television in room which was sorted within 5 minutes of being reported. Good breakfast.
Very expensive bar for budget type hotel. Long wait to be served in bar as served out of turn . Barman appeared to serve his friends and then leave his position.
The food was good
Staff really uphelpful Had to constantly ask waitress/waiter to clear our dishes. Bar staff not trained - didn't know how to make an irish coffee!! Shower not working properly, Clean cups not replaced in room.
the charming young man who took pity on us and allowed me to park outside the hotel - I am 79,my husband 83 and disabled. I thank him for all his efforts on our behalf.
Central Location is good Staff are pleasant
Rooms are all very basic, free toiletries are almost impossible to use. Public areas were scruffy
Bed very comfortable, ditto pillows. Room quiet, good tea & coffee. Warm shower a surprise in a hotel full of guests preparing for parties. Staff amenable but reliant on systems that were faulty (booking not found, bill not correct) - (see red notes). Very late night bar staff accommodating though tired.
Parking: Pay & Display 5 minutes' walk; no ticket printed! Staff could not find booking despite hard copy of email, thus check-in delayed. Offered apology and vouchers for parking and check-in problems. At check-out the bill included items we had not had or paid for in cash.
Quality of care above average for price Everyone very helpful
No extractor fan in bathroom
Comfy bed and good general atmosphere.
Bedroom cool and lack of knowledge of some staff about drink servings. Lukewarm food.
Location in relation to Solent university. Nice rooms.
Arrivals area blocked by taxis. Restaurant closed in evening for Christmas functions.
Prices at the bar
The staff were charming and helpful, good power shower , comfortable room.
Ordered from menu, after 40 minutes we were informed by a member of bar staff that there were lots of new staff that did not know what they were doing. Our order had been left on the side to go cold. Apologies followed and we were offered and accepted a free drink. However when the food arrived it was not up to the standard we expected, cheap margarine used on ciabbatta and mozarella heese not even melted and the pesto not in evidence. The pulled pork was fatty, served on an unbuttered white roll, with limp lettuce and chunks of badly chopped spring onions. Needless to say this stopped us visiting the restaurant.
Noisy in some floor some door difficult to close .
Hotel was very reasonable, great location. Friendly staff, Erin in the restaurant was particularly helpful and attentive.
Can't really think that there was anything that I would complain about.
Lack of parking
12pm exit, comfortable clean room, lovely breakfast, with my grandkids getting free breakfast, dinner was lovely.. 9/10 we would defo book again and plan too when the body guard tours in Southampton early 2015.
Dirty carpet in family room, evening meal expensive.
The restaurant and food was nice. Staff were very helpful. Breakfast was brilliant. Hotel seemed well maintained.
Lighting was a bit dark for us. The smoke alarm kept making odd noises waking us up often during the night.
Stayed pre cruise .. Handy location , staff helpful , comfy bed .. Can't ask for more
Felt I paid a wee bit over the odds but still reasonably happy
Location is spot on, right near town centre
Staff we'nt very helpful when checking in/out. Major issue is the lack of car park. They don't even have arrangement with nearby secure parking.
Male staff on reception and in the bar seem unable to smile or show basic courteousness . On my first morning I was refused breakfast despite stating I would pay for it. Was told my card was not pre authorised....no one asked me to do so. Eventually reception told them to give me it free but no one took me to a table or prepared it and I had to do so myself. I did not need a free breakfast just some flexibility, manners and good customer service. The staff culture needs looking at by the company.
parking near hotel, and cheat at £5.00 for 24 hour
do not use under ground parking ,as this is used by down&outs
We were there for my sons graduation at Solent and so the hotel was perfectly placed for all our needs.
The hotel was in a central location for Guildhall
Parking was the worst of any hotel I've ever been to in the world. I was told to go to a nearby carpark (although I discovered later there were places under the hotel) I was given an unclear map, got lost in a confusing concentric one way system. then got lost walking back, which took me half an hour. The breakfast was poor and, at £10, expensive. one short inland phone call was charged at an extortionalte £66! The staff were more interested in their computers than the guests.
The bed was comfortable, the room was ok.
The service was diabolical. Check in was slow with only one member of staff manning the desk at what appeared to be a busy period. It took for one of the guests in the queue to ask for another member of staff to to assist with the check in. The room itself was clean but dated. The bathroom could do with a refresh and the toilet was dirty. I ordered a meal at the bar as I could not get into the restaurant facilities as they were fully booked. It took well over an hour for the food to arrive and then unfortunately it did a round of the restaurant and then placed in front of a guy on the table in front of me. He then had to go to the bar to advise that this was not his order. It was some 10 mins or so after it was put in front of him that he returned with a member of staff who then collected the food of which was then placed on my table. The food by this time was cold! I took the food up to the bar as I was not satisfied and was asked if I would like for them to prepare a fresh meal for me but by this time it was too late for me so requested a refund and returned to my room. Check out was not so good either, again this was down to a shortage of staff. A long wait so in the end just left my room card on the counter as did some of the other disgruntled guests. Would I stay here again? Probably not!
Good sized room, clean and well equipped. Beds clean and comfy. TV quite big with good picture.
The only problem was that the breakfast tables had not been clean properly and there were crumbs and spills that we had to clean ourselves.
