Dating back over 500 years, the 4-star Mercure Southampton Centre Dolphin Hotel is the oldest hotel in the city and still has many original features remain including Britain's largest bay windows.

With free Wi-Fi on site, ibis budget Southampton Centre is situated right in the heart of Southampton. The train station is a few minutes’ walk away, and the Medieval City Walls are also close by.

Located on a busy round about
Good location, decent enogh hotel
Free wifi is poor, could do with more bar staff
Staff were good and breakfast wash good
I think the rooms especially bathrooms are of the same standard as a budget hotel but the price is much more than a budget hotel.
The staff very welcoming and helpful. Made me feel at ease . Rooms clean and was very quiet & peaceful.
The bed was extremely comfortable and the location was great
When I stayed with a group of friends I travelled down from Birmingham so it was a bit of a drive, I was tired and just wanted to chill out for a bit. But I found myself looping round the hotel looking for some where to park (never been to southampton before). After a while I decided to just stick it in a pay and display and ask when I got into the hotel. The hotel informed me that they didn't have any on site parking and a pay display was my only option. The one I was parked in was £2.00 from 6pm till midnight and free from midnight to 8am. Annoyingly I had to get up at 8am and walk the 5 minute walk to the car park. Then when I put in another 2 hours it only gave me 1 hour on the ticket, so I spent ages worrying id get a parking fine. Plus walking from the car to the hotel and vice versa with all our stuff was a pain.
Everything was fine.
Spacious room Value for money
Hair dryer didn't work Some noise from other guests Staff a bit indifferent
Central location, Good Bar and facilities, decent size room, friendly staff, well maintained communal areas.
Dated decor and slightly tired furnishings.
standard of cleanliness and helpful staff
Convenient location. Clean, comfortable bed, prompt response to request for more towels. Tea and coffee.
Booked this hotel due to watching a show at the mayflower. Short walk to the theatre from here. Hotel was clean, staff were friendly and breakfast was good. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay
Friendlily staff good location
No premium WiFi if booking with booking.com. Milk in the room for tea/coffee totally inadequate.
Very disappointed that no room service offered here. We arrived late and the restaurant "had just stopped serving". The best the staff could do was provide pizza menus - hardly healthy eating! It took an hour to then find a pizza company actually willing to deliver and get the food to us. Very poor.
the receptionist was excellent, efficient, he didn't seem to know the area but gave me a map and googled the weather for cast and directions for the next day
the bar staff were dreadful completely ignored me , then when I did get served - couldn't serve me tea, they had run out. Not a smile or welcome Bedroom freezing had to get 2 blankets. Breakfast £10.50 for tea and toast .... Use the nearby excellent cafes, better food and service for less than a fiver.
Good breakfast and large room for family with enough bed space for everyone.
Service and quality of food (dinner) at the restaurant can be improved.
Location was excellent. I usually stay in more expensive hotels than this, but this served its purpose just fine.
Parking was a nuisance. I was given a map to the car park, but I still couldn't find the car park.
We booked this hotel as part of a family trip to Paultond Park/Peppa Pig World. We are a family of 5 ages of kids 11/8/2 and they all loved it! Family room was very spacious with a huge bathroom and the staff were very friendly and eager to help, great value for money as had a family room plus breakfast for £99 and we all thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast buffet .
No parking on site, had to park around the corner and push pram across 2 lots of busy traffic lights
We booked a family room and the room was very spacious.
The hotel was very nice and modern, and the hotel staff was nice and helpful. One night we ordered food at the bar but their machine had broken down (the kitchen did not get the order), so we had to wait for 40 minutes - which was really not a problem for us. The staff apologised and we got our food refunded! We did not expect such good customer service, congrats!
The wifi did not work very well.
Location and staff friendly
The room was clean, modern but a little charachterless with basic furnishings. Staff were pleasant and friendly. I enjoyed the breakfast. Hot food with a variety of things you won't find many other places eg smoothies. It was like eating breakfast in a much more expensive hotel. The hotel had free wifi and option for paid for faster wifi.
I think the charge for parking is too expensive.I parked somewhere else but it would have added 20% to the price of my booking had I used the hotel car park.
I liked the personal touch offered by all staff I encountered .For example I had forgotten my phone charger and my battery was 'dying'. I mentioned this to the chap in charge f registering breakfasts on the second day of my stay( 10th Feb ) . He simply took my phone whilst I breakfasted and charged it using his own charger. Now THAT'S service !!
The fact it was in the town centre
The smell of drains from the bath plug hole it was quite Ming x
Roomy, clean, nice bed.
