Score from 215 reviews Good
Very central for what we were needing. (commonwealth pool)
Couldn't find entrance but sorted out in seconds
I requested my favorite single (quiet) room and that's what I got! K.M. is basic but clean and I always sleep sound. Breakfast very good! Value for money considering it's just 10-15 mins walk from the Royal Mile.
No complaints, but if you're a 1st time visitor, take note that reception (in courtyard at back) and breakfast room are both located at entrances outside of the main bedroom building. Just follow the signs.
En suite and shower was excellent. Allowed to leave luggage securely prior to check in. Breakfast was as good as any top hotel.
Nothing I didn't like but it isn't posh or five star. So not suitable if you want to pamper yourself. But safe clean friendly comfortable.
Very nice breakfast, room clean, the guy at the reception was very very kind
wall too thin
The hotel is at a very good location. It's about 3 minutes' walk away from the University of Edinburgh, and 5 minutes' walk away from the Royal Mile. The breakfast is excellent, as many other guests have suggested. All staff members are very friendly and helpful. I personally think this is the best hotel I've seen in years.
The bathroom. It got all wet after shower, but I don't think it's a big problem in winter, as the heating dried the floor very quickly
Good service given, great breakfast.
Lack of lift, and location - veru dark street of main road - not great if on your own
The hotel appears to have been student halls or similar and it has that feel to it. It was very clean and comfortable and the breakfast was exceptional.
Breakfast is really good. Near to royal mile and Edinburgh university!
I was staying on my own in Edinburgh for the weekend and had never been before, i wanted somewhere not too near or far from the city centre as i am a very light sleeper so didn't really want the revellers keeping me awake lol. I asked for quiet room, was on 4th floor with view of George's seat (mountain) beautiful. My room was spacious, immaculately clean, everything I needed, TV, free WIFI, telephone for emergencies, shower gel, towels and tea/coffee facilites. Breakfast next morning was delicious, with a very good variety, all the staff were so very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend the Kenneth Mackenzie to anyone wanting somewhere for very good value for money, comfort, cleansiness and friendly atmosphere. My husband and i are going to stay there after the New Year. Thank you :)
Nothing at all.
Excellent breakfast and service
The room wasn't the one I had booked
The breakfast was outstanding. The location was good and it was very clean.
More TV channels would have been appreciated. A choice of skimmed milk in the room as only whole milk was provided.
I regularly stay here for the rugby and weekend trips and it never disappoints. The staff are genuinely friendly and helpful and the breakfast is the best anywhere in Scotland.
Unfortunately instead of my usual view of Arthur's Seat, I was looking out on to the loading bay for deliveries but that is my only complaint.
The location is great and the staff are so friendly. The room was just what we were looking for as only there for 2days to explore Edinburgh so just a place to sleep. The breakfast is also fantastic.
Bathroom smelt a little musty.
Location Breakfast Size of room.
Absence of lift.
It was very close to the Royal College where we were to attend an event. All the staff we met were very helpful and friendly.
Rooms a bit cramped, en suite is perhaps a little too grand a description for what was . Bedside light cable didn't reach socket. As a pensioner, being accommodated on the 3rd floor and no lift became a challenge.
Pleasant staff. Good location near Royal Mile. Quiet. Great b!reakfast (there is a heallthy option as well)!
Closeness to the centre of things
Noise of the wagons in the mornings doing there deliveries
I loved staying at Kenneth MacKenzie. I,m 52 and my daughter was staying there while presenting to the uni students. The room was very clean.quiet and comfortable and a very close walk to Waverley and Princes street. The staff were so helpful and polite and the breakfast was incredible-hot and delicious. The whole place has a very tranquil, peaceful feel and I felt very safe there too.I will definitely be recommending this to my friends who are all well past Uni age but will love the mix of people, central location and feeling of being well-looked after.
You need to see past the exterior of the building-it doesn't do justice to the experience of staying there!
Friendly, Helpful Staff, Breakfast, Location, Cleanliness.
Uncomfortable mattress, no heating control in room (night storage)
location,breakfast & staff
early morning noise form delivery trucks
Breakfast, WiFi, cleanness, value for money. N
No lift with four levels.
Breakfast superb, staff very polite
A friend on the same trip spent £11 more and got a newly refurbed apartment ;) However, still very reasonably priced so shouldnt complain!
Jus 10 min. from the Royal mile and lots of interesting sites close by. Kenneth Mackenzie offers good and simple accommodation with a very good full Scottish Breakfast included. The staff is very friendly. Price-Quality is extremely good and the location excellent.
Bit noisy early morning, housekeeping were in corridor & knocking doors early!
I was able to park on the street close by. The reception staff were friendly. Rooms are small but comfortable and clean, plus the wifi is free and works well.Breakfast was also very good.
Shower is a bit small, but this is basically student accommodation so it's more or less what I expected .
