We came to Portsmouth Harbour to shop at Gunwharf Quay and could not believe what a great location the hotel was in! Also ideal for train station and HMS Victory. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms clean and comfortable
The decor could do with updating but this is reflected in the great rate for rooms.
1.Location ideal for Quay and Historic Dockyard 2.Breakfast 3.Plenty of hot water 4. Convenient car park - free 5. Friendly staff
1. Very tired rooms in great need of redecoration and refurbishment 2. Lift difficult to access - more like an industrial type 3. Hearing dripping water when raining down the internal duct (Room 28) 4. Could not turn on c/h radiators and in particular the towel rail
everything was good ,very helpful staff.it is a old building that does need an update but its got character aswell.,great value.i enjoyed it,the location and great staff, thankyou.
Friendly staff, good breakfast
Some rooms are looked my a bit tired, but it's clean
It was like going back in time. The staff were so friendly and helpful too.
Unfortunately the lift didn't work half the time - but what a wonderful lift.
Lovely old hotel in need of a bit of love (but not too much so as to spoil it!); Staff very friendly and helpful; Excellent breakfast; Excellent location
A little bit more love and attention to the rooms wouldn't go amiss.
breakfast was excellent and staff very helpful
Found the bed uncomfortable and a little unstable. Overall, the hotel was a little dated
The staf are all excellent. Friendly, polite and helpful. The location is excellent, but it is noisy because of the ill fitting windows. Breakfast was good. The hotel is spotlessly clean (apart from mould stains in bathrooms).
The hotel is in desperate need of redecoration and refurnishing. The windows are draughty and the carpets worn, the wallpaper peeling and there is mould in the bathrooms.
Location, close to sites, breakfast, staff and car parking. Price.
It's old and not very well kept
Very friendly welcome, Good breakfast.
Decor looking tired.
The Hotel is just off the motor way an ideal stop off for us traveling down to Portugal. We have stayed at least 6 times and fully recommend it.
Made to feel very welcome even with 2 dogs.

Lift out of order
The location is perfect. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Both the rooms and bathrooms are spacious. Which is a huge benefit compared to modern hotels who normally have so small bathrooms that you can hardly dry yourself after a shower. But the biggest plus about Keppels Head is the friendly staff.
The Hotel is in a desperate need for repairs. The ceilings are leaking and you can see water damage everywhere. The bathrooms are out of date. For the second time I have been staying at Keppels Head the elevator was out of order and I had to walk up to the forth floor. I doubt the the mushrooms with the English breakfast are fresh. The bar is completely out of date. New carpets are needed and for sure the interior needs to be painted.
Location. Free parking.
Dirty room. Lumpy bed. No heating.

Decor a little tired, but not an issue for us
Plenty of free parking close to local shopping centre. Excellent breakfast.
Breakfast and staff very good
Male receptionist was rudest man ever met at a hotel desk !
Rooms although comfy are in need of redecoration
The hotel was opposite the train station, bus station and the ferries. It was perfect for walking to most of the attractions. There were lovely pubs with good food nearby and a supermarket. Also hotel parking. The breakfast at the hotel was superb.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good, the location was good and suited our purpose. Rooms are large,
We visited this hotel 40+ years ago, and were saddened to see it last week, in such a state of disrepair. Worn carpets, damaged ceilings, curtains, and lino in bathroom, also dirty grouting in bathroom. All very sad, it needs a huge injection of money.
There were four if us sharing two twins on a 50th birthday shopping weekend. The staff were so accommodating, even chilling our bottles in their fridge for us. I personally loved the blackout curtains. Perfect location right next to our train and shopping. Good choice of breakfasts too. We would definately come. Back here.
The interior of the hotel, although very historic is a little tired and needs a lick of paint here and there. It didn't deter from our comfy beds and good stay though.
