Location is excellent as base for exploring all the Portsmouth attractions and very close to Gunwharf Quays
Decor is a bit tired in places
We had a great view of the Spinnaker Tower and HMS Warrior. Large airy room. Friendly, helpful staff. Free parking. Would definitely stay again
Decor of room a bit dated but it really didn't matter as it was clean and had everything we needed for the night.
This was our 2nd visit, hotel is adequate although staff very helpful, a good breakfast but ultimately it's all about the location. Spot on.
Can't say that I particularly disliked anything, it has its limitations but this is reflected in the price.
The staff were very friendly, the room was clean and the bed comfortable. The breakfast was good and plenty of choice. The querkiness of the lift - very 1930s. The position of our room - 21 - at the front of the hotel was very good for people watching. Great location for the ferry, train, buses and of course the Historic Dockyard and Gun Wharf Quay with all the shops and restaurants. It would be a wonderful hotel if it was better looked after as the dining room has a lot of character and the lounge area with the bar looked very nice.
The actual state of the hotel. Needs a lot of revamping, in that it desperately needs a repaint - inside and out, the curtains in our room need repairing, the wallpaper needs replacing in parts, some of the carpets are thread-bare and in the dining-room the ceiling where there was obviously a water leak, needs repairing.
Really helpful staff
choice in the bar was limited
The receptionist was friendly, helpful and very welcoming. Our room was warm, spacious and very clean. the bathroom though small was perfectly adequate. There was ;good provision of tea/coffee in room. The breakfast was delicious and served in a very decorative room by polite staff.
Nothing we could actually name.
Good sized room Good hot Shower Superb Breakfast Good Safe Car park
The hotel is in a great location but needs updating.
Location Friendly staff Free Parking
Tired decor Wifi not available in all rooms
Old fashioned hotel, nice staff
Location, old fashioned-ness! Staff, lift.
Spacious room,good breakfast friendly staff
The bed was standard double, shame it wasn't king size as the room could easily accommodated one
The room was very very tired, the ensuite facilities were appaulling - the wash basin was cracked and being held in place by glue, the shower was a hose connections onto the taps
Great staff, very friendly Reasonable choice at breakfast Clean bed and toilet Free parking
Parking was secluded (CCTV would have been nice) High ceilings were very dusty Old, broken furniture Stained, ripped wallpaper Window didn't lock EVERYTHING creaked!
We had a sea view room with a bay window looking at the tall ship. We walked out the door to the historic docks and the shops and restaurants, great breakfast in a lovely old high ceiling room. Check out Nelson on the balcony.
The trade off is being near the train and bus station so it is noisy but it is worth it for the location.
The hotel is as close to rail, coach and bus as it is possible to get. Also within sight of the Historic Dockyard. The staff are excellent. They are friendly and efficient. Our room was large and had a sea view. Two wing back armchairs and a comfortable bed was perfect. The bathroom more than adequate. An electric kettle and plenty of tea and coffee.
My husband was disturbed by the trains when the windows were open. Although they did not interrupt my sleep. The decor is very tired and it is sad to see such a lovely building in such a state of neglect.
Great old hotel full of lovely, slightly faded charm. Relaxed, friendly staff. Close to port & some excellent pubs. Would certainly stay again.
WiFi was only available in lounge not rooms but this was really only a minor irritant.
Views of Portsmouth Hotel great. Breakfast was great with choice. Large room was comfortable. Price was value for money
Double bed small for 2 people - but price of room - still value
Jerry was fab and so friendly. I was quite merry and he was so polite with me x
Decor was a bit old and could do with a tidy up, but it wasn't the be all and end all.
This hotel suited me because it was close to the railway and bus stations.
Location is excellent
Hotel and facilities are very much in need of a refurbishment! So much potential in this hotel but feel it is being neglected! Alex Pollizi would have a field day!
Love the old tradition feel to the place especially the "Poirot" lift magic
Pleasant , comfortable stayt
