Lovely 'elderly' hotel in a perfect location for the Historic Dockyards. We really enjoyed our stay there. Very comfortable room and bed. Great breakfast and excellent staff. Highly recommended.
The room was wonderful. Large, with a brilliant view out over the Hard. Breakfast was great. The reception staff very friendly. Lovely to be welcomed by name. Excellent value for money.
location, price, staff, most facilities.
hotel needs modernising. Room 32 has a bad leak in the window sill so wallpaper very wet. Lift is poor for disabled guests as it will not stay open with out being held, difficult when you use two walking sticks. Also stops too suddenly jarring your body badly.
The big bonus is car parking and super location for historic dockyard and gun wharf quays ,in need of decoration the dining shows wat it could be ,staff were very good
Poor shower,and dated decor
location and very helpful staff
Bathroom was very basic
Excellent location, friendly staff, amazing view, would definitely stay again
A great location to see the major attractions in and around Portsmouth.
Nothing really. A grand old building looking a little tired and needing some money spent on it.
The room was huge - probably the biggest I've ever had in the UK.
Bathroom wasn't the best
Great location close to Historic Dockyard with parking on site, 5 mins walk from Gunn Wharf, very friendly helpful staff and fantastic breakfast. Would use again.
Decor dated, but value for money and very comfortable. Rooms at the front of the building do suffer from traffic noise and those walking past in the early hours.
A very old Hotel, with quaint quirkiness, interesting architecture, very good breakfast. It was easy to imagine staying there 100 years ago. wonderful old elevator. Right across from train station and ferries. Historic Naval yard a block away. Street was quiet at night. Neighborhood seemed very safe.
A bit run down, seemed rather clean but my room was quite worn, and the bathroom really could have used some updating. It looked dirty. But did not seem to be. Had peeling wall paper and a very dirty exhaust fan in ceiling.
Your breakfast room was great The building and pictures are royal as is the navel uniform in the Dining Room
No beer in the Bar it was G and T all night but Drug users were in their and they were not residents the front of the hotel is uninviting with big closed doors but a lovely Foyer , Get a painter in now and freshen up a wonderful building The problem is not run or managed properly its your own fault
Position for Historic Dockyards and Gunwharf excellent . Good Breakfast
Tired décor but clean
Only booked a single room but was very pleasantly surprised to be given a large room with amazing views. Excellent food and very nice staff.
The breakfast was amazing the size of the room was good.
There was a really bad musty smell in the room and the beds were not very comfortable. The hotel is very tired and needs a massive revamp.
If you prefer to rinse your hair with a kettle - fine! Not for me im afraid. Re fried sausages? No thanks
Friendly and helpfulll staff. Very good location for our needs. Ideal for IOW Ferry, Trains, national express coaches and shearings pick up point.
The hotel does need a lot of money spent on decoration etc. but it is very clean and the service, location and value for money more than make up for this with us.
Starff were helpful an really plesent, breakfast was fab. 5 minutes walk to shops. We will be back
Sorry really sweeky bed every time you move you really could do with a new bed in that room.
The location was first class and with good parking.
The room was very tired with some peeling wallpaper. TGhe double bed was rather small.
Good location - proximity to historic dockyard and Gunwharf, short walk into City centre.
Directly opposite bus station so outlook not ideal. Mattress could do with being replaced (springs sticking through!). Clean but decor tired.
Small room.Small bath towels.
the choice of breakfast was excellent
the crunching of the bed springs and the fluff around edges of the bathroom floor.
Noise of trains at 05.00
Staff friendly, breakfast excellent
noise from trains and bus station
Warm and friendly, great fresh cooked breakfast. Pet friendly. Good location. on-site parking. Front rooms have a view of harbour.
Can be a bit noisy at night due to the close proximity of bus and train station.
location.staff faultless.perfect for what we wanted.
