The location was excellent for Gunwharf. The staff were friendly The breakfast was good The hotel was clean
The general condition of the hotel was in need of a vast amount of work to bring it up to the standard that a 17th century property deserves as overall the condition was poor. Wall paper was peeling and coving hanging down in places with every step on the floor making the wardrobe rock and creak.
The old fashion style, the location, nice staff
The hotel really needs to be renovated, not redecorated as the style is really charming and nicely old fashioned, but the ceiling was all cracked and there was a rip in the curtain! However the cleanliness was fine.
It's central location ,great breakfast nice people
If you are picky it could do with some tlc
Position is great. Staff are very pleasant. Bedrooms are adequate.
Looks a little tired. Could be a superb older type hotel.
the museums were wonderful, next time would chose a hotel a little further from the port and train station
The shabbiNess and neglected
The staff were very welcoming, especially when we checked in.
Great location, friendly, helpful staff, lovely breakfast, rooms are ok
No wi-fi in rooms, bit expensive for what you get, lift seems old, bath/shower could be updated
I liked the quirkiness of this hotel, the staff were very, very helpful and the dining room is amazing. The cooked breakfast was very good. The furnishings are a little worn, but this added to the charm and it was excellent value for money. My friend was very impressed with the size of the Victory suite.
Breakfast was good with quick service. Reception staff were pleasant. Location was good. Free parking was an excellent bonus for business in Dockyard for long days.
Decors and furniture was outdated and pooly maintained in several places. e.g. Curtain hanging off rail, towel rail hanging off wall, plaster peeling off walls and ceiling. In general I would say for £ 40 B&B per night I would have possibly been satisfied, but not £55 . I have stayed in beautifully maintained and more up to date accommodation for much much less than £55 per night.
Great location excellent hotel, good breakfasts.
Great location, parking, good value for money.staff are helpfull ,breakfast good,we always stay there when in Portsmouth.
For what you pay,it's not the ritz.a bit of updating is needed,so don,t moan about it,it is what it is.
General areas in need of decorating
A warm welcome awaited us in this rather old-fashioned, once very elegant hotel. We had a huge room with a bathroom with full-size bath. The breakfast was excellent, and cooked to order. The building has great character and history, and the location could not be better for Gunsharf Quays and the Naval Dockyard - being just opposite Portsmouth Harbour station.
There's no towel rail in bathroom. I had to ask for a bath mat. Some of the furishings and decor need a major overhaul - it seems what has to be mended is mended, but major overhaul will be needed if only for the sake of this historic building.
The location is great just a minute from the Historic Naval Dockyards and Gun Wharf Quay. View was good with HMS Warrior and the Spinnaker Tower both in view.
On site parking, close to Gunwarf shops, train & bus station
Could do with updating/decorating rooms
Old fashioned charm of hotel & staff. Breakfast good choice in lovely historic dining room. Superb place for transportation facilities.
Good location / nice staff / breakfast good .
No stock in bar / in serious need of decoration / mattress didn't fit base of bed / sink all cracked / no shower /
Very close to the Train station and the historic dockyard attractions.
The location is excellent and there is always a friendly welcome
Good old fashioned quality and service in an unsurpassable location.
Can't go more often!!
Centrally located....lovely large room, spacious bathroom...breakfast lovely!
Lovely 'elderly' hotel in a perfect location for the Historic Dockyards. We really enjoyed our stay there. Very comfortable room and bed. Great breakfast and excellent staff. Highly recommended.
The room was wonderful. Large, with a brilliant view out over the Hard. Breakfast was great. The reception staff very friendly. Lovely to be welcomed by name. Excellent value for money.
location, price, staff, most facilities.
hotel needs modernising. Room 32 has a bad leak in the window sill so wallpaper very wet. Lift is poor for disabled guests as it will not stay open with out being held, difficult when you use two walking sticks. Also stops too suddenly jarring your body badly.
