The rooms were large and spacious The hotel is in need of a face lift, we stayed here about 10 years ago nothing had changed, if felt like a old peoples home. |

The room was a good size and very clean. The bathroom too was clean and the evening meal above average for the style of hotel. Breakfast!! When will hotels learn that a hot buffet breakfast does not work!! Greasy bacon, hard fried eggs swimming in liquid (what liquid I don't know) and "do it yourself" toast. There must be wastage of food, so what you save on labour costs you lose on food loss. |

The hotel was in an excellent position to walk straight out onto the hills, The food was excellent with planty of choice. A liitle dated in decoration but understandilbly a hugh building to maintain upgrading of decor in station building would improve it. |

The staff were excellent. The food was very good, and the location ideal for the Lake District, with parking, and easy walking distance of the town. The large gardens were well kept. We took the Junior Suite which was comfotable and had a fabulous view of the fells. The decor looked a bit dated and could do with a bit of a face lift. The bed wasn't very comfortable. |

It was all good but the exceptional thing for us was the view from room 204 would request the same room next time as I'm sure there will be a next time The toilet would not flush on occasions |

The service we received from all the staff was excellent and was always carried out in a courteous way. We had an excellent and a varied menu during our stay and our only complaint was the size of the portions and as mature guests we found that this caused us a certain amount of embarrassment when the plates were removed with a high percentage of food uneaten. It would be a nice gesture to have linen napkins at dinner to compliment the table linen ware. |

Position of hotel was good. Staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast and evening meals were excellent could not fault. Decor was very tired needed attention, ie wallpaper coming away at the seams in most rooms. Carpet fraying on staircase in station building. |

The hotel is set in an ideal location for exploring the Lake District.Did not eat at the hotel, except for breakfast, which was self service and very good. Thought the hotel was looking it's age and could do with bringing up to date. The room that we occupied had very good views of the hills. Which would have been even better if the windows had been cleaned.( Filthy). The bathroom was clean but needed updating and decorating.(Paint peeling off window). |

The food was excellent. This is the main reason for the recommendation. Nice spacious gardens too and good views from 3rd floor bedrooms. The decor and general maintenance were only just satisfactory and many people would have found it to be well below their own home standards in terms of old peeling wallpaper, window frame painting and aged carpets. |
