Argyll Arms Hotel is set on Campbeltown’s main street, close to the seafront and where the ferries leave for Ardrossan.
Score from 70 reviews Good
Boasting a beautiful location next to the harbour, with rolling hills in the distance, this hotel is 5 miles from Machrihanish in the heart of Campbeltown.
Score from 110 reviews Wonderful
With far-reaching views over Campbeltown Loch, this unique mansion sits on the Kintyre Way on the outskirts of Campbeltown.
Score from 167 reviews Very good
The bed was comfortable
The overall cleanliness was poor and the shower was very tight to get into, then when you switched it on there was very little power so it took a long time to rinse
No amenities near so you had to travel be car all the time. Perhaps a DVD player would be useful. Shower was very hit and miss but it is an old cottage! Basic no frills accn
Loved the cottage and surrounding fields and true sense if peace we found there.A stunning sense of calm and country with lovely cows literally right outside the main window. We had a very friendly welcome from Elizabeth the onsite caretaker and lots of great admin and info from the owners who live further away in another area.We had just had a family bereavement so really needed a quiet break and that's exactly what we got.Restorative, refreshing and totally unspoilt. The cottage also had plenty of heating and storage as well as good kitchen facilities and a bathroom. We were lucky enough to be there for the annual Kintyre show on the main Southend road and went down there and had a lovely day out with the farm animals, parades, dog show and tractor show.We also headed down to the Heritage Centre which houses a fascinating collection of relics and artefacts from the history of Campbeltown,Kintyre and the whole Argyll and Bute region. There is even a boat inside the main hall. There is an excellent leisure centre and pool in the main town and also a great library including children's library where they are very welcoming. The Co-op and Tesco stores are well stocked with friendly staff and the can firms are good value-we used Tavvies and alsoMac's.The area is probably better still explored by car but we managed well with the Glasgow to Campbeltown West Coast Motors(with Citilink) service which takes in stunning views of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs followed by Loch Fyne on the way down and then the local cabs for any longer trips from the cottage.
Nothing really except wish we could have had longer here and phone signal unsurprisingly is a little hard to get.As you would expect for such a remote part of Scotland.
Perfect for a short break away from it all. Not too far from the main town and all the walks around Kintyre. All facilities were available Basic but very confortable. Caretaker was very helpful and friendly
peaceful location friendly staff
you need a car to move around, will need to buy everything you need (toilet paper, cleaning supply...)
battled with the hot water/shower. No dishwasher even though we were asked to bring the relevant tablets.
The cottage was very cold and felt damp. The television did not appear to be working, none of the windows close properly and there was a cold wind which didnt help matters in the cottage re feeling cold and damp. If you want basic accommodation then you may well like this, Im used to camping etc but I did expect better from this.
Location nice and secluded. Beds nice and cosy - a lovely touch was the hot water bottles in place!
Cottage is all-electric with an upper limit on weekly usage. We are unsure of electricity prices and were therefore very wary of using appliances!
Shower was cold and impossible to regulate the temperature.
Peace and quiet in lovely location. Lovely wee cottage at an excellent price. Dog-friendly too! Facilities were fine, with cooker, microwave etc.
Parking was away from the house & we'd to climb up narrow stone steps, which were a bit slippy.
Peace and quiet
Maccregor cottage needs updated shower room terrible and small. flooring needs replaced along with area at front door and actual door. It also smells of damp. Pillows on bed stained. Tv old version but worked fine.
It was good that we were able to stay at short notice for one night only. Location was ideal for where we wanted to be.
Access road is very rough.
