ease of getting from hotel into city centre friendliness and helpfulness of staff, especially Sean cleanliness of room and bathroom attractive lounge for guests
prices are high in Edinburgh, and this hotel is no exception
Kildonan Lodge is a small hotel, situated in a quiet residential part of Edinburgh well connected to the city centre. The bus stop is near the hotel and the bus service is very frequent. I stayed for three nights, had a double room for single use, as there are no single rooms. It was No 4, in the basement, so my first impression was rather mixed, but the room was very comfortable and spacious, with a pleasant bathroom with good toiletries and bathrobe. A lovely touch was a small decanter of sherry and shortbread replenished every day and also tea and coffee can. Full Scottish breakfast was a pleasant experience for me, it was served in a charming dining room, I felt a bit like in a novel from 30ties. Everything was well kept and clean, although some floors were a bit creaky. The staff were polite and attentive, the gentleman whom I had consulted before arriving how to get to the hotel went out of his way to explain in detail - very helpful. I would definitely come again.
Only minor issue - in accordance with the information on confirmation e-mail the hotel should have accepted Diners Club, which unfortunatelly was not the case.
great great great
Location quiet but with easy access to the city, off street parking, comfortable and quiet room in the annex with huge bed, good breakfast, helpful staff. Didn't use them but there were very nice public rooms and a decent honesty bar.
It was unusually hot when we stayed so we had our sleep disturbed a bit, but not the hotel's fault. Pity jets in jacuzzi bath didn't work and one window wouldn't open.
Received a very warm welcome and made feel at home. Hotel well organised with information of bus routes (bus stop yards from hotel) etc. Staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent standard of cleanliness in rooms and public areas. Breakfast very good and dinner in evenings delicious. Location of hotel away from bustle of town but not too far to walk. Parking facility. Would certainly stay again but in a different room.
Aroma from cooking if bathroom window open. Have back problems and found bed and dining chairs too hard. Stayed 4 nights and dinner menu never varied resulting in repeating choices although food was excellent.
We were on top floor and it was very hot. N.B.
The friendliness and helpfulness were exceptional and made it a real pleasure to stay there. It was clean, very nicely decorated and lovely touches to make it really special (eg. complimentary sherry in the bedrooms). Would definitely recommend this hotel and will stay again on our next visit.
The friendliness of staff the little added extras ..like sherry and shortbread in your room and a free bottle of water was left every day...fresh towels everyday..tea coffee..facilities in room..honesty bar in lounge Buses running into city centre just outside hotel ten mins on bus and your there...give it 10 out of 10 .
Nothing negative about this hotel
Loved the House, great staff, good location
Crystal is a Treasure! So charming and helpful and always smiling.
That the chef was on holiday and so we could not enjoy a meal in the hotel!
Excellent hotel with very friendly and helpful staff, very tasty breakfast, comfortable room with a lot of space. Everything was really great
A bit far from city centre, 10 min. By bus, and 40 min.on foot, but the buses go every 5 min., so it was not a problem for us
Staff, location, room decor
The location of the hotel is good with buses into Edinburgh every 5 minutes. Its also an easy walk ( about 35 minutes). We ate in the hotel one night and the food was good All the staff were excellent.
We were travelling with another couple and booked several months in advance. For some reason our rooms were as far apart as they could possibly be. One on the second floor and us out the back in the lodge. There is no lift but the staff offered to carry the cases. Our rooms were on the small side.
Breakfast excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful. Buses into town frequent and handy
Disappointed in evening meal on Wednesday 21st Service was very good but portions in some cases small for prices charged. It was all a bit tasteless and unappetising.
The staff were terrific - Crystal & Sean were so helpful and attentive and made use feel very much at home. The food was stupendous and the service was impecable. We highly recommend this place to any and all that would care to make a reservation. We will return to Kildonan Lodge the next time we visit Edinburgh.
Our only complaint would be that you had to walk to corner to catch the bus as it didn't stop in front of of the hotel.
Bed was very uncomfortable. Room was very tight for space.
Friendly staff and very helpful too. The room was rather modern compared to the overall Victorian atmosphere but that worked just fine. A perfectly quiet and small scale hotel if you want the comfort of secure parking paired to the proximity of Edinburgh. Lovely breakfast too! Definitely worth every penny !
Location Comfort Meals
Hair dryer didn't work Sockets hanging out of wall
Location. Close to city bus. Quiet. Parking.
our whole stay was even if for one night was very pleasent, the restaurant food was very good, overall a nice place to stay
nothing to dislike
Comfortable and quaint. Very friendly staff.
Poor wifi reception.
A lovely place to stay....friendly staff ..our room was on ground floor next to front door but very quiet. Honesty bar is a nice idea as is sherry and shortbread in the rooms. Iron hairdryer and tea/coffee in room. Breakfast was excellent, tea toast followed by full English and on the side were, cereal, croissants, cheese, fruit bowl and mixed fruit salad as well as 3 types of juice. Very good value for the money. A five minute bus ride to town bus stop outside the hotel. Pay for an all day ticket at £3.50 each and can come and go until midnight. Taxi from station initially was only £6 odd. Overall a fantastic value for money place to see Edinburgh from. We will be back!!
Really handy for the city centre with great parking facilities. Staff couldn't do enough and were also keen to help is explore with maps and advice. Breakfast was great with very friendly staff!
Use of other facilities stayed in lodge at back of main hotel,
Looking a bit 90s gold and decor dated, bath shower combination slipper as water runs over tiles, radiator needed replaced due to corrosion at bottom in bathroom, toilet seat loose
