The atmosphere downstairs was really good. The place was full and really throbbing. We only had a light supper as we had been out to a lunch party but it was really nice. Breakfast was good but I object to being asked to pay extra for smoked fish when I have paid £115 for a fairly mediocre room. In the morning I found that I had a punctured tyre. Fiona went out of her way to surelyhelp us and we were soon on our way home. Full marks to Fiona. We frequently stay overnight, usually in bed and breakfast. I am used to paying £60-90 for the night and often stay in stunningly good rooms for that price. I thought the room we had was worth about £65 and did not understand how it could be priced at £115. I appreciate that I was staying in a restaurant and not a b&b, but the benefits of being in a restaurant did not justify the price I was charged for very mediocre room.

The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Room was very clean and cosy. Excellent meal in the bistro and reasonably priced. The decor is a bit tired and in need of refurbishment. soundproofing in the rooms was very poor.

Whilst the building is old and the room needed up-dated it was comfortable and the quiet "village" location made for a good nights sleep. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Would consider as a base for a weeks golf in the area.Breakfast choice was good .

We were made welcome by owner and staff. The hotel has a unique character made up from the old building including a bar with character and characters, a cosy restaurant and an informal bistro. With three outdoor areas it makes a relatively small hotel quite spacious and varied. The room was just right, well equipped reasonable space and decent beds. Especially good was the food. Both the bistro and the restaurant offered an interesting variety and could not be faulted on quantity and quality. The service was excellent by staff that seemed to care about your enjoyment and satisfaction. This was our second visit and our third will not be long in coming This hotel presents too many temptations too eat too much, stay up late in good company and then have to face a full breakfast. It is surrounded by far too many excellent golf courses so it is hard to choose where to play.

Breakfast Very small tired room. Heavy paint smell in room. Very poor bathroom fittings. Very expensive for a hotel of this quality.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The smell of newly painted wood was quite overwhelming, so we had to leave the window open. Sadly this meant that road nosie kept my husband awake both nights.

The staff were very welcoming. We were staying for a funeral. On arrival in the car park there was no lighting. This made it difficult to find the entrance to the hotel. May seem futile but not if you are wondering around with suitcases. We were most disappointed with the standard of the food. I had a fishcake - not cheap at £9.50 but it was mostly potato. This is not acdceptable these days when M and S ones would have been far preferable. My husband's 'jus' with is live and bacon was not pleasant, in fact acrid and horrible!

“We were attending a wedding and were recommended to Maitlandfield House by Mother of the Bride. We found the hotel to be ideal for location, bed and breakfast and very near to Haddington town centre. We enjoyed our stay very much,” Alistair, Glasgow |
