“ Personally, I've always enjoyed the historical worth of this particular hotel. It's atmosphere of the olden coach stop interests me. This stay I found that the rooms had been modernized. Our room was very tastefully done. Actually, it was beautiful! ”

Booked a room for the night as I had previously stayed in the annex and was satisfied with the room. However on this occasion we were placed in the main building in room 4. Situated beside a plant room which seem to house the industrial kitchen extractor which when turned on at 7am shook the bathroom so much that even the dirty light fittings in the ceiling had fallen out! The room was reminiscent of a doctors waiting room with not so much as a wardrobe, in place was an open clothes rail with ironing board and iron stacked in the open on full view. The bed was so poor we could feel each individual spring under our backs. Left to find the rooms ourselves through a maze of corridors, stairs kitchen staff and fire doors wedged open with chairs I couldn't believe the filth on the carpets, old food and mud. Staff pleasant enough but with an air disinterest in what they are doing. Breakfast very poor, bacon undercooked and inedible. I could live with all of the above in a chain hotel at £40 a night but charging £120 is simply unacceptable! If you want to be at boutique hotel prices then spend some money at least on the bedrooms and a vaccum cleaner for then corridors!

Clean stylish rooms and bar/restuarant. Entrance to the rooms is poor and there is no bespoke parking.

Informal, nice restaurant as part of hotel - I did not feel 'watched' as you do eating at some hotels in the area! Waitress was very attentive and upbeat, food came quickly. Big problem - I could be a regular visitor as I have business in the area, but breakfast not starting until 7:30am is simply too late and does not work for me. I am used to 6:30 breakfast and getting away about 7:00, so was pretty disappointed when I found out about your lesurely start in the mornings!

The staff were freindly and helpfull on checking, the restaurant staff were also polite and attentative. The choice and quality of the food was good and well presented. I found my room to be clean and tidy with all the usual facilities I would expect in a Hotel of this standard . the only concern I had was that it was facing the main road and therfore was slightly noisy at times, But ultimately I enjoyed my stay. The other disadvantage was there is no immediate car parking.

Personally, I've always enjoyed the historical worth of this particular hotel. It's atmosphere of the olden coach stop interests me. This stay I found that the rooms had been modernized. Our room was very tastefully done. Actually, it was beautiful! I'm sure that most people really like the updates, but I was sad to lose some of the historical flair for the more modern appeal. The original brick had been plastered over and painted, what a shame! But then I'm a huge history fan. The hotel was very comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay.

Double room for two, but only one armchair, one bedside lamp, one set of towels (had to ask twice for second set of towels); very poor breakfast - only one plate of food (badly cooked - bacon like cold cardboard, cold rubbery toast) and one drink. Had to wait to check in and to check out. Not a good experience and certainly not worth the money. No car parking.

Lovely decor , clean , warm and comfortable. Food great too. My only bug bear was the banging of doors right underneath my room ! Woke me up really early and went on to past midnight, as staff using the rear exit to come in/ out and access to the big rubbish skip at back. Shame really as was great otherwise, just suffered from a lack of sleep.

Our room had piles of chairs stacked inside that had to be moved. The room hadn't been serviced and I had to ask twice for towels as we didn't have any. The rooms had been requested to be as close as possible as our son was also staying however that request had been ignored, but they did take some money off the bill for this (we didn't ask them to so that was a nice touch ) . Breakfast was very slow and served by someone who clearly had the day off when training was being given, leaning across people to deliver or collect plates and scraping them at the table...

Not a lot. It's position within the town is very good although there is no parking and finding a car park is difficult. This hotel offered modern accommodation that was sprinkled with dust, grime and cobwebs. The staff were young, inexperienced, friendly but completely incompetent at taking drink and food orders, remembering what you ordered and finally providing you with your order. The cleanliness of the bar glasses and general crockery was worrying. We waited over one hour fifteen minutes for the cooked breakfast which when it arrived was tasteless. I have never written a review for a hotel before, but our experience was so bad I couldn't let this go. I have never stayed in a hotel that was so filthy from the outside area, to the bedrooms and finally to the plates and glasses with which they serve you. It was a disgrace, badly run and I certainly would not recommend it.

Polite staff Expensive meals in the bar / restaurant, lack of parking, cleaning materials left in room as if the cleaner had suddenly vanished half way through the day, breakfast was unimpressive (lipstick on mugs, warm milk served with tea, only enough butter to spread on a postage stamp), tiny single room that whilst modern, felt like a cramped student room

Convenience of location and good breakfast. Some friendly staff. prepared bill on arrival was £120 rather than £80 agreed on line though they did change it. Had to request towels in room. Bar prices very high. Some staff not very friendly.

Good location, attractive decor post refurbishment, pleasant polite staff, good breakfast. A huge failing was that we had no hot water in our room on either morning of our stay, and staff, though they tried to help, were ineffectual in fixing the problem. Also, the room looked nice but had some practical drawbacks, eg no drawers or shelves anywhere so we couldn't unpack most of our things, only one bedside light in a double room, no mirror in the bedroom. Another drawback is that there is no parking - you have to pay to leave your car in the town long-stay park, which is a good 10 minutes walk away. Disappointing and we won't be going back.
