It's an interesting village with lots of history especially using a leaflet/guide purchased (50p) from the local Post Office/Village Store. As with many small villages it has lost the majority of its small businesses and there appears to be many houses unoccupied (second homes?) or semi-derelict. There are many interesting places and things to see without having to travel long distances so could be attractive as a base.

We go here at least three times a year mostly for a week, it’s lovely sitting on the balcony of the apartment we hire and the ducks just love us feeding them, the area is great for couples and it’s a great location to the local area. Plenty of shops and restaurants in Carnforth. We always go to the canal turn in Carnforth, there is a nice chip shop not far from the Tesco supermarket.
It’s a very dog friendly place most pubs accommodate your dog.

We didn't have long to stay here, but it's an interesting-looking village on an old route to the north. We drove to Kirkby Lonsdale in the morning, and this is also well worth a visit - a lovely small town, that's virtually unspoiled.
We had a pleasant stay in the Kings Arms hotel. Stayed there for 2 nights. Adrian, the manager is very friendly. It was a nice homely place. We had booked a deluxe double room as well which was quite spacious. Quite flexible check in timings. We, in fact checked in quite late around 1030 pm. Beautiful breakfast, sumptuous and fulfiling.
Nice village location just a few minutes off the M6. Large room at the back of the hotel with own entrance from the car park, quiet and comfortable. Parking plentiful. Staff for check-in and in the pub were friendly and helpful. Both the reasonably priced evening meal and the included breakfast were very good. Will definitely stay again
We stayed in a deluxe room at the rear of the kings arms, spotless clean , very comfy extra large bed, staff were very good & helpful, food was of very good quality, would highly recommend staying at the kings arms burton in Kendal fantastic value for money
A good old fashioned pub. In the village of Burton in Kendal. All the staff very friendly. Brilliant breakfast and bar menu. Good off road safe parking. Room was basic but clean and comfortable. And suited our needs. No complaints.
Convenient stopping place on long drive to Scotland and a popular 'local' too. Characterful hotel in historic little town. Reasonably priced menu & lots of variety at breakfast. Comfy bed & lovely big towels. Great staff.
The lady who has recently taken over the management of this pub/hotel, was very helpful, but also very busy, trying to cover the hotel, bar and waitressing.
The breakfast was good with numerous options of cooked dishes.
Super friendly hotel, had everything we needed. Super value for money. Dog friendly. Great meals, huge big breaksat included.Big rooms. We actually tried to book another night but it was fully booked.lol
Good hotel for an over night stay. Hotel was extremely busy. Food was excellent. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and thoroughly enjoyed it and breakfast was top notch too. Would recommend.
Extremely pleasant, polite and welcoming staff. The accomodation was first class and the menu varied well cooked and tasty. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel.
