Retains much of its character as the prime hotel in Dorchester; not over-modernized. Historical list of famous guests and Thomas Hardy associations will displayed. Good food, locally sourced, served in the bar.. Well sound-proofed; bell-ringing practice in St Peter's almost next door inaudible in the hotel.Good to see tea-room at the front re-instated, although restaurant still closed except for groups. Still, generally much improved since our last visit two years ago. Seriously under-staffed; only one man to manage everything in the bar. Coffee clearly ordered after dinner on second night never materialized.

Nice building, good breakfast, well kept and good location. A bit over priced, senior staff more worried about training new staff about the task than customer service.

Staff were very friendly and welcoming and the room was available well before the check-in time. The dimly lit bedroom. The only lights were small low orange dimmed lamps over the bed and dresser which made the room quite dark even in daylight. Shower pressure and temp. Was poor due to tap operated rather than electric so a bit hit and miss. Buffet breakfast layed out across on the drinks bar rather than on tableclothed tables - not very appealing.

Most of the staff very helpful. It was unfortunate that they had a large party booked in for the evening meal. So they were unable to give us good service.

Our Son who lives in the area booked our room for us so we were unsure as to where we were staying but i must say i thoroughly enjoyed my stay at The Kings Arms, it was a good choice. The gentleman on reception was very welcoming and informative, i'm told i can be rather fussy but he answered my questions about breakfast and ordered my newspapers no problems. Room was very nice, very clean and appeared to have everything we needed for our stay. Excellent shower and again, spotlessly clean which for me is a must.! Dined in the bar in the evening, food was very nice and not too expensive, nice wines too...Hic!! Breakfast was pretty seamless and efficient, staff very friendly, food was hot on arrival and plenty of tea!! Check out nice and simple with a friendly receptionist on duty. Good job Kings Arms i will definitely visit again. Lovely hotel

Staff were very polite and helpful. The room was cold and drafty. The original sash windows have large gaps resulting in cold draughts in the bedroom and bathroom.

Location for business was superb The room, whilst delightful in other ways, was not warm. The restaurant was not in use so dinner was taken in the bar which was not warm. I think it was perhaps overpriced by 20%.

The large rooms, the staff who at least tries to make the best out of the situation. The hotel was completely understaffed, the rooms were not clean including dirty towels. The complete hotel is a total rundown version of its previous form and does not live up to its former reputation.

We are planning to have our wedding at the Kings Arms this year. Concerned about some reviews, so decided to stay at hotel. Could not fault it. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Full of character and the hottest and best breakfast we have had for a long time. Coffee shop was great. We have now booked our wedding at the hotel. Pressure on water was not great, but spoke to the owner and been informed it was being fixed and should be done by the end of the month
