Dating back to 1133, the 12th century unique Missenden Abbey is beautiful and historic. Surrounded by 10 acres of Chiltern countryside, it is located in the picturesque village of Great Missenden.

Originally a 16th-century coaching inn, The Crown in Old Amersham offers relaxed dining, traditional hospitality and easy access to the M40, M25, M1 and M4.
Score from 85 reviews Very good
A 10-minute walk from the centre of Great Missenden is the Nag’s Head Hotel, a 4-star 15th century inn. Guests can enjoy contemporary styled interiors, Anglo-French fusion cuisine and free Wi-Fi.
Score from 65 reviews Fabulous
This traditional country hotel is in the village of Chalfont St. Giles, on the edge of the Chiltern Hills. It has a restaurant, a bar and a free private car park.

Soundproofing a little suspect
This looks like a good hotel with character but we never got to see it. The receptionist was very pleasant and helpful but said that it was not there procedure to let guests know that there was no room in the restaurant on booking. However, the Swan Restaurant was very nice.
Disappointed to be told that there was no room in the restaurant to eat having selected it from previous comments. Surely customers should be contacted and informed so they can book elsewhere. It seemed to be the norm to ask residents to wander up and down the street looking for alternative eating establishments. As the bedrooms are part of the extension we experienced nothing of the hotel. A very poor experience.
Very enjoyable stay for 2 nights excellent breakfast, reception and restaurant staff very helpful
Very nice well appointed rooms, comply beds and excellent location. Food good but expensive and small portions. Staff very pleasant but not very organised.
Rather noisy as bedroom backed onto outside bar seating area. Breakfast not well organised as a Buffet as certain basics like bread and croissants were very slow to be replenished. This was our second stay and no I provement in this area.
Good location Comfortable accommodation Very pleasant staff
Breakfast buffet disappointing -out of stock! Coffee unpalatable and luke warm
Friendly helpful staff. Plenty of car parking space. In the centre of the old town of Amersham.
We were not offered an alarm call. We paid for full English breakfast but this was not mentioned on the breakfast menu. Our room was quite dark, small window. Overall rather disappointing stay. Only one chair in our double room.
Meal on first evening very nice.
Older Receptionist possibly one of the worst I have ever encountered. Dirty tables at Breakfast. Lack of choice at breakfast.
Lovely old building in fab location. All staff were excellent.
The carpets in bedroom and outside bathroom were very badly stained and frankly should be replaced.
Romantic location in a very lovely village.
Rumorous fan in the bathroom and intermittant light on the roof above our bed ....
The staff the building the setting the beams are all lovely. Breakfast is really good. Best we have had in a hotel for a long time.
The mattresses are worn out. If we had mattresses like that at home we would throw them out immediately and buy new ones. We stayed in 2 different rooms during our stay. The mattresses in both were tired squashed and sagging. They really need to get new ones. Both our nights sleeps were bad. We also heard people in the breakfast room complain about theirs.
Staying at a very old coach house was a nice experience. Old Amersham just deserves to be walked up one side and back down the other after your meal. The morning breakfast was good and had everything you would expect to see - hot English breakfast buffet with additional choices from the menu, continental etc etc. We did raise an issue about our room not being the original one we requested and we were generously moved to the best available for our one night stay - an excellent gesture!
modern room but in character setting, cleanliness, good parking, friendly staff. Tea/ coffee & bottled water provided in room. The quick & friendly resolution of a problem with breakfast - excellent customer service.
Lighting in room a bit dim - seems to be a common issue these days!
Great room with character and historic atmosphere; food and drink very good; friendly helpful staff. Comfortable bed, everything very clean and well-appointed.
Room a little too warm (on a hot night) with no easy way of cooling it down.
We have stayed at this lovely inn before and just love the ambience I would especially recommend eating of the bar menu both well prepared and reasonable
The suite was fantastic - exposed beams, high celings, yet modern and tasteful furnishings Food was of very good quality Staff friendly and helpful 30 mins from Heathrow, yet buried in classic English countryside
Don't Book a suite on Weekends. If there is a Wedding You will find nö sleep!
The bath located in the bedroom
The lighting in the room both upstairs and downstairs was a little too dark
Location, staff, service all were faultless
The room described as a suite was just a big room which incorporated the bathroom. Not our cup of tea. Next time we will book a straightforward deluxe room.
The property's old English character
Nothing. Liked everything
Fabulous room, extremely comfortable bed. Great location.
Taxi company used by hotel poor, waited considerable time on both journeys. Breakfast appalling, no hot items replenished to accommodate waiting guests! Fire extinguisher propped open fire door as we returned late at night. Lunch time food stops at 3 pm? I did mention all complaints as I checked out, no genuine apology or concern given.
Good service and breakfast
Loved the rustic charm if the place. Town is lovely and great for walking. Tavern was great!!!
Had to have windows open to get ventilation but street noise was bothersome. The street noise is unavoidable because of the proximity of the hotel on the street. I would stay there again, but would try the rooms in the back of the property and not in the front of the hotel, over the tavern(that closed at 11:30)
Breakfast was poorly served. Cold plates. Dinner poor. Two desserts out of four were off the menu and the table we asked for was given to someone else. Bathroom , nowhere to hang or put towel robe; hooks or a stool would have been good, there was room for that. Bed on a slope, could have been fixed straight with wood insert;I know it is an old building, but still!!No lighting or bedside table on one side of double bed.
Service for food is appalling Serve yourself breakfast needs a complete rethink to avoid a constant traffic of guests between table and buffet and hot plate etc. Coffee of poor quality. Did not eat dinner as could not anticipate good service and there is a choice of eating places in the town . Disappointing .Over a six night stay had only one set of toiletries and 3 packets of biscuits two of which were inferior custard creams .Mycomplaints were dealt with by the director. Over A
