Breakfast was lovely
the room was beautiful and far better than expected, the staff were very friendly and helpful, can't wait to go back for another stay didn't want to leave.
Room quite basic, large wedding party at same time
The rooms were very good, excellent comfortable beds. Excellent breakfast in beautiful character filled room.
TV was mounted on a wall at 90 degrees to the bed and was impossible to view. But it didn't work anyway.
staff location bed
breakfast wasn't great, cheap juices and breads. our room smelled of drains but we were moved quickly
The noise from next door having a shower very early as it was so loud it woke me as I thought it was my husband in our shower!!
cute hotel with quirky character. Comfortable rooms with nice bathrooms and white company toiletries. Very quiet, even though there is a bar on site (which stayed open as long as there were people wanting to drink, but no music so no shouting thus no noise).
a number of the rooms have a step as soon as you enter, and if it is dark when you arrive you can fall over as soon as you get in your room. otherwise all was good.
Character and room comfort. Quite enjoyed the uneven floor.
Breakfast, went cold really quickly as cold plates and 'breakfast' kept on hot plates. Would have been better to have cooked breakfast cooked to order. Scrambled egg does not hold well over a hot plate and had no seasoning.
Staff very polite. Beautiful kept entrance n grounds...
Bedroom very small for 4 star accommodation.... N our room was classified as a double deluxe. Couldn't pass each other in the room. Breakfast was very poor, bacon seemed microwaved, sausages raw n bones in the smoked salmon... Massive turn off .
Spacious, clean room. Plenty of parking. Friendly staff.
No tea/coffee making facilities. Decor in room a bit dated and dreary.
Location and room interior good.
Room was cold, lots of kitchen noise and didn't like that room overlooked kitchen window where cigarette butts had been thrown. Breakfast was ok but poached eggs not good on very cold toast. Food was not the hotel's strength. We ate at a very lovely and buzzy restaurant on the high street.
Very comfy bed. Nice bar.
Buffet breakfast excellent on first day but very little hot food left on second day, which didn't get replenished even though there was still 30 mins of breakfast time left.
The age and history
There were simple improvements that could have been made that would have added to the ambiance and appearance of the hotel. For such a historic building it was not 'dressed' as well as it could have been. For example candles not lit in inglenooks, plastic plants in the dining room and décor not fitting with the age and history. One of the fireplaces was just a dumping area for baskets newspapers and orange sack the logs had been in. In the corner at the entrance to the bar there was just a load of sofa/chair cushions piled in a corner. It was a shame as it would only have taken minutes to sort some of these touches out and very little cost. It could have been wonderful and cosy but was not sadly and it was quite disappointing really.
Car parking excellent. Bed was comfortable - with soft mattress though.
Bar in much need of refurbishment. Bathroom a bit 'tired' and bedroom - uninteresting decor.
Character of hotel and location also a good choice of draught beer we will definitely stay their next time we visit the area
Soundproofing a little suspect
This looks like a good hotel with character but we never got to see it. The receptionist was very pleasant and helpful but said that it was not there procedure to let guests know that there was no room in the restaurant on booking. However, the Swan Restaurant was very nice.
Disappointed to be told that there was no room in the restaurant to eat having selected it from previous comments. Surely customers should be contacted and informed so they can book elsewhere. It seemed to be the norm to ask residents to wander up and down the street looking for alternative eating establishments. As the bedrooms are part of the extension we experienced nothing of the hotel. A very poor experience.
Very enjoyable stay for 2 nights excellent breakfast, reception and restaurant staff very helpful
Very nice well appointed rooms, comply beds and excellent location. Food good but expensive and small portions. Staff very pleasant but not very organised.
Rather noisy as bedroom backed onto outside bar seating area. Breakfast not well organised as a Buffet as certain basics like bread and croissants were very slow to be replenished. This was our second stay and no I provement in this area.
Good location Comfortable accommodation Very pleasant staff
Breakfast buffet disappointing -out of stock! Coffee unpalatable and luke warm
Friendly helpful staff. Plenty of car parking space. In the centre of the old town of Amersham.
We were not offered an alarm call. We paid for full English breakfast but this was not mentioned on the breakfast menu. Our room was quite dark, small window. Overall rather disappointing stay. Only one chair in our double room.
Meal on first evening very nice.
Older Receptionist possibly one of the worst I have ever encountered. Dirty tables at Breakfast. Lack of choice at breakfast.
Lovely old building in fab location. All staff were excellent.
The carpets in bedroom and outside bathroom were very badly stained and frankly should be replaced.
Romantic location in a very lovely village.
Rumorous fan in the bathroom and intermittant light on the roof above our bed ....
The staff the building the setting the beams are all lovely. Breakfast is really good. Best we have had in a hotel for a long time.
The mattresses are worn out. If we had mattresses like that at home we would throw them out immediately and buy new ones. We stayed in 2 different rooms during our stay. The mattresses in both were tired squashed and sagging. They really need to get new ones. Both our nights sleeps were bad. We also heard people in the breakfast room complain about theirs.
