Unfortunately our trip wasnt very successful. We were double booked , but this was sorted out by the Manager. The room was dirty, dusty with hairs in the fridge and a very bad aroma in the room. We had to give it a good clean, which spoilt things as it was for a birthday celebration. However all said we did complain and the Manager didnt want to charge us. The pictures on the internet were also quite deceiving. The place could do with a good clean, a new rug or two and more attention to detail. The cleaner/waitress was also very "scruffy" looking - not a good luck whilst clearing away food plates. I hate complaining but better for someone to know and so this won't happen to someone elase, and the Manager was very obliging and am sure he will have it under control for future bookings.

When we arrived there was just one member of staff around. He was very attentive despite having to be in several places at once (ie: dealing with customers and serving behind the bar). We would like to stress how impressed we were with his personable manner. We did not get his name but he has distinctive earrings in both ears. He certainly made up for the lack of staff beautifully. Lovely full English breakfast too! I believe there were hairdryers available, but not in the room.

Friendly & helpful staff, good location for walking the local area, plenty of facilities in the town; cash point, curry house, pubs etc.

The breakfast was excellent - piping hot although it would have been better to have been offered a refill of coffee as one small cup did not suffice. I think the location is excellent but the rooms are now looking tired and do not offer value for money.

Clean room, old building and nice location. The shower was 'erratic', either scalding hot or cold water. I heard staff mention something about water so were aware of this. Some staff also using language near to guests having their breakfast which maybe should have been kept away from guests, which spoilt an otherwise friendly and helpful service.

Clean and comfortable. Dog friendly. Good quality food. Guest lounge useful to escape from bustle in the bar. Car park at rear very good as space limited in street even out of season and especially on market day (Wednesday). Small tv high up on the room wall.

Room and Location Great and very Comforatble Restaurant and Bar Poor Service, and very Long Winded in terms of Service, although Both of the staff were hard working, they were overwhealmed by numbers, staffing levels have been cut too far- for week end visitors. Having said all of the above we probably would stay here again.

Good parking at the rear of hotel. Nice outside area for alfresco eating and drinks. Quiet room at the back. Room was not serviced on the second day. Not good selection of local beers,as the hotel is part of "Jennings" brewery in the lake district, this is Yorkshire so could have had some local brews like "Theakstons Old Peculier" on tap.

The Hotel is located in the centre of the village and had its own car park and outdoor seating area. You were provided with a keys to the Hotel therefore were not restricted on a time to return to the Hotel. The 'Hotel' is a glorified Pub. The rooms are very dated with furniture bought from a deceased Grannies house clearance sale incuding a 14" TV in the rooms with a mere 5 snowy channels. Breakfast is served within an hours time slot and the choice was limited. The bar closes at 11pm which is unrealistic especially when you are in 'holiday mode'.

The hotel is a lovely old inn, lots of character. Cute lounge with comfy chairs. The Breakfast was delicious, Full English cooked to perfection ! The manager and hotel staff were welcoming and helpful during our one night stay. I recommend their sister inn The Moors inn at Appleton le Moor, great gourmet food !. Shower room / loo door didnt shut. Shower didnt work in the morning so the staff kindly arranged for us to use another room to shower/dress in.
