Oban is a city built around a late 18th-century distillery that produces one of the finest single malt whiskeys in Scotland. This normally peaceful town is invaded during summer when tourists use it as a base to visit the Inner Hebrides islands such as Mull, Lismore and Coll, supporting its status as the Gateway to the Isles.
The horseshoe-shaped Oban Bay is sheltered by Kerrera Island with its spectacular Gylen Castle. Award-winning seafood restaurants and lively pubs line George Street and the waterfront of Corran Esplanade adjacent to the harbour.
Take a short walk up the hill to McCaig’s Tower, a structure based on the Roman Colosseum, for the finest views of Oban’s centre and the outer islands. When you get back down to sea level, stroll into and stumble out of the Oban whiskey distillery after sampling the local version of the 'water of life'.
Admire the coastal scenery as you travel a bit out of town to the 7th-century ruins of Dunollie Castle, home of the Clan MacDougall. The Firth of Lorn gives visitors a fanatstic opportunity to try some sea kayaking.
As the capital of North Argyll, Oban has a great selection of hotels, guest houses and B&Bs available on Booking.com.

Oban is lovely especially in summer I have been many times over the years and mostly stayed in great Western Hotel with my late husband. This year I travelled in February it was cold and raining but that did not detract in any way from my enjoyment of oban. I love the place

i went at new year hoping to find a ceilidh on somewhere without success i went to the coreyvrecken wotherspoons for my meals which was also first class. what i would avoid on my next visit would be tescos £5.25p breakfasts. i ordered the breakfast with a cup of tea the teapot was out of a dolls house and the cup was like a soup bowl. i also got two slice of toast with butter full cost £8.65p i went back and queried the price and they said it was right. £1.90p for the dolls house teapot £1.50 FOR 2 SLICE OF TOAST WITH BUTTER and £5.25 for the breakfast a total of £8.65 a shear rip off. in wotherspoons i got the same for £7.04p but with a huge mug for your tea and as many refills as you like first class. i tried to see the tescos manager but he wasn't there in this day and age £1.50 for 2 slice of toast a whole loaf only costs £1.30 hope you can take it up with tesco

The seafood was absolutely amazing, went to two seafood restaurants one on the jetty @ the ferry terminal ( The Waterfront Fishouse)and one on the north pier ( Ee-usk ), both restaurants food were fabulous. If like me you like a Guinness then go to the Oban Inn for a nice pint of the black stuff. We stayed out of town at Benderloch before our only night in Oban, we booked a room at The Scot hotel. This was a nice and central stay with the shops, bars and restaurants in close proximity. Will most probably be back to experience more that Oban and the surrounding area has to offer.
Lovely hotel in the centre of Oban, staff were very friendly and helpful , modern room with kettle and coffee machine, complimentary bottled water, robes and slippers, they have even provided yoga mats and wireless speaker in the room, spa facilities were an added bonus to relax in the sauna , use the foot spa and heated beds after a day of exploring. Breakfast was delicious and lots of choice , we also dined in the restaurant and the food was lovely, all very reasonably priced.
This is probably the best hotel we have stayed in in Scotland and were made welcome from the start
The breakfast was served in a room with very good views of Oban and the choice was exceptional. The library was comfortable with newspapers to read and wonderful views.
We had a warm welcome from our hosts who who were kind and very hospitable. In the evening we enjoyed the excellent choice of malt whiskies to savour in the bar.
It was comfortable and the staff were very good and pleasant. The lounge was lovely and the setting of the hotel was beautiful. It was £200 a night. The bedding is remarkable and only matched for me by the Langham in Melbourne, memorable. We didn't eat there but the coffee in the lounge was good. Nice distance from Oban, enough to feel privacy and peace (except the renovation works) but close enough to visit in 15m drive.
This place was fantastic. We had a bad experience in Oban before but this hotel and the staff were outstanding. Very welcoming, loved the decor, furniture and such. Wife took pictures so we could get some for home. Welcome drink, honesty bar (which is a brilliant concept) fantastic breakfast (really good), lovely staff. Great experience, no other option for when we return to Oban!
We liked the peaceful location , but it was still close enough to the town centre. The apartment had tasteful decor and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed. Immaculate. It was so nice to have the kitchenette, compared to being in a hotel, with people coming and going all the time etc.
Was a real treat. Home from home. Free parking spot too, rare in Oban!
Lovely hotel with rooms that had all the necessities as well as some nice extras like afternoon tea. The room was clean and nicely decorated. Staff were attentive and helpful. We enjoyed coming back after a evening around town and having a cocktail at the bar located in the hotel. Highly recommend this place if staying in Oban.
The hotel was perfect for our overnight stay in Oban. Our room faced the water, which was a plus. Wonderful breakfast and dinner included. Both delicious and filling. Enjoyed the sunset in the bar area. Staff made me a perfect cocktail! Wish we could have stayed longer and we would definitely stay at this hotel if we return.
Great location for an overnight stay just outside of Oban (5 mile drive to catch a ferry to Mull the next day). Dinner options were fantastic - so good I returned for an evening meal on my way home too without the overnight stay. Very nice pub as part of the hotel with outside seating - which is very nice with good weather.
One of our favorite stays on our 2 week trip. only sad that it was for one night. the rooms were lovely. The staff was beyond helpful and friendly. IF we ever make it back to Scotland we will definitely stay here. Rate this hotel a total 10/10 and would recommend to everyone for sure!!
We stayed 2 nights here at the Hawthornbank in Oban and our host Ian was great. The guest house is sparkling clean as are the rooms. And the breakfast in the morning was brilliant too. Parking is available right at the hotel. Highly recommended.
The staff were very friendly and accommodating. This was my second time and they have new owners. The location and breakfast is still very good. It’s a great value for Oban and we will continue to stay at this great hotel.
Great stay, great staff, spacious apartment, really comfy King size bed, amaaazing shower and the best breakfast we’ve ever had in the UK. 3-5 minutes from the main street. We would highly recommend this hotel!
The room was very cute and cosy. The hotel was very well located in Oban, convenient to the centre and to the ferry services. The hosts were very communicative and the room was clean with a great bed.
The hotel itself was very well put together; lovely dining room and great lounge. Rooms were well appointed and had everything we needed. Bed was comfy and the amenities were excellent.
