Home-cooked food is served in The Garden House Inn’s wooden-beamed, contemporary restaurant and a roaring open-fire features in the bar.

We loved the location and the staff were great. The room itself very nice and had everything you could need Overall - I would give this hotel a very good rating.
We thought that the bathroom space was limited and cold. The TV was too far away from the central location - which meant it had to be turned up to watch, hopefully we didn't keep the neighbours awake
Friendly staff & very polite. Breakfast was excellent.
Noisy radiator when the heating was on.
excellent restaurant - Finbarr's - and comfortable bar
needs some extensive refurbishment, rooms warm but stuffy, window would not close so some street and rail noise but did help ventilation! double beds should really be king size for comfort.
Off the beaten track, quaint, comfortable, quiet. Perfect for visiting scholars to the university who need space to study. A short walk to Palace Green and the market.
Fab resturant bit pricey but nice food, lovely clean rooms and hotel 5 min walk from town centre great weekend over all going back soon.
In room 19 right nx door to boiler heating came on at 5.30 am no lie in on a Sunday oh no!!
There were lots of cobwebs hanging from bedroom ceiling. Apart from this it was very clean
Location Staff Walk on back of hotel a bonus
Nothing we don't like
Staff are friendly, hotel is clean and rooms are basic,
The hotel closes its doors at 8:30 in the evening, this felt like I was staying is a hostel, not a hotel.
Nice hotel, with character and charm. Excellent restaurant - good value and superb food. Comfortable lounge area, homely bar, very friendly and helpful staff.
The room was a bit chilly, even after fiddling with the radiator but not a big issue.
The hotel was warm, clean and comfortable. Shower nice and hot. The staff were friendly and efficient. Breakfast appetising.
The hotel wi-fi had a block on downloads which prevented me watching Broadchurch and a few other programmes I'd been planning to watch on my tablet. It also blocked youtube, so I was unable to finish a movie I'd been watching at my previous hotel. Slightly irksome.
Coffee and tea in residents' lounge. Receptionist was very polite and helpful. Waitress at breakfast was pleasant and helpful. My poached eggs for breakfast were perfect. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent with very friendly and knowledgeable staff. The bed was comfortable.
My bedroom (21) was too hot. I turned off the radiator on arrival but it was still too hot. The floodlight outside the front shone through both sets of curtains and kept me awake on the first night. The tv signal came and went regularly.
Staff, room, cleanliness, breakfast
It was lovely!!! In a great location, friendly staff, clean and comfortable. It had a lovely atmosphere and was great value for money. The restaurant was upmarket and served delicious food at just the right amount instead of loads of junk. We really enjoyed our stay and when we return we will book again.
location. good breakfast,
The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The room was a little on the small side but well-appointed and clean. The town is a short walk away.
The room was very hot, even with the heating turned off and the window open.
We were given a good welcome, room was comfortable and clean. There was a residents lounge and a very pleasant bar. It was an easy 10 minutes walk into the centre of Durham. I would not hesitate to stay here again.
Double room was a bit pokey.
Location, comfort freibdly
Arrived early at 12:30 and in 5 mins room ready. Restaurant busy with wedding party but they very kindly offered us full menu served in bar. Very easy walk to castle, cathedral and town. Great parking. Very nice light decor. Lovely guest lounge.
Possibly a lift would be the only improvement.
Fabulous dining area,excellent location
Nothing to dislike
poor sound insulation
Hotel with a car park and in a quiet part of town
A very nice, clean, older building halfway between the train station and the Castle. The restaurant downstairs was clearly popular as it was completely booked on a Sunday night.
The room was a little smaller than we'd expected. And the walk to the train station in the morning straight uphill! Just a note: we couldn't get a taxi to take us to the train station Monday morning. Not the hotel's fault but good to know for the future.
staff peace and quiet welcome cleanliness décor powerful hot shower
bed a little too soft and bouncy! breakfast very tasty but would have liked some artisan bread, not just sliced white or brown.
