Room was clean and comfortable with all ameneties. Restaurant food was good. Lounge area was very attractive. Handy location for walking to the cathedral and restaurants.
Noise during the day from construction next door, but that couldn't be helped.
Excellent position to walk to town centre, attractions and restaurants. Good breakfast with cheerful and efficient staff.
Building work next door to hotel
It is well situated for the Center of Durham, just a short stroll. The restaurant is excellent but maybe a little price
At present there is much building work being carried out adjacent and therefore rather noisy early in the morning.
Staff very obliging.Very helpful and courteous.
Hotel needed updating compared to restaurant. Building site next door.
Friendly staff. Adjacent to woodland for morning walk. Ideal for popping into Durham.
Room very hot and stuffy and we didn't sleep well. Some people outside talking in the early hours also kept us awake. No staff on overnight so no one to complain to. Restaurant is fine dining used by locals which is great for the area but we had to walk down to a pub for something more family-friendly. Place could do with updating and a really good clean.
Bed was comfortable. Location was convenient,
Room did not seem really clean. Carpet was worn out everywhere.
Very accommodating and friendly staff. Rooms and public areas were clean. We wanted somewhere that was a short walk from the attractions, but away from the busy main streets. That was what this hotel offered.
Sound proofing between rooms was poor, which disturbed sleep.
Finbarr's restaurant in the hotel
the air freshener
Very welcoming on my arrival, very accommodating nothing to much. Wonderful comfy bed and a lovely hearty breakfast.
Couldn't fault it
Located conveniently for the city. Efficient, friendly staff Covers all the bases with on-site restaurant (which we did not use), and bar (which served an excellent pint of Timmy Taylor's Landlord!)
Short walk to town, close to railway station ,pleasant staff, good food in restaurant
Bed low down , quality of sleep poor
Close to the railway station and viaduct and within easy walking distance of city centre
Not easy to find.
Location was good (close to the town centre) Staff were helpful
The floors are very noisy when people are wlking around in other rooms Breakfast fruit could be cut and put in a big bowl, rather than just a piece of fruit.
Hotel staff welcoming and friendly. Food in the hotel was of a very good standard. Location ideal to explore Durham. Only negative issue was that it was a warm night & we were unable to open the windows - they had been painted shut. There was a fan in the room but it was very noisy & didn't circulate very well. It was, however, a most enjoyable visit.
The staff were very friendly. The restaurant was nice. The location was great, easy walking to the Cathedral.
The rooms were very small, hot and noisy. We stayed during summer and the rooms had no ventilation. Our 2nd room had a small fan but it was so noisy it couldn't be used.
Location, short walk to centre with good parking. Large comfortable room, the shower room was a bit small but served its purpose
Service at dinner and breakfast was slow. The selection of beers in the bar was limited and not very good beer. This meant we only used the restaurant/bar one night out of three.
Good room and bathroom, excellent evening meal and breakfast. Easy walk to the town, good parking.
Reception staff excellent. Location relative to city is good. Female restaurant staff very good. Food excellent.
Poor parking. Totally lacking in character and ambience. Feels like a large old- style seaside boarding house. Food very expensive. Poor access to hotel except through restaurant.
Excellent food staff friendly and helpful only a few mins walk into the centre of Durham
Building site next door, could hear trains throughout the night passing close by. Room very small and hot due to favourable weather.
food top class staff really helpful access easy ample parking
totally unsuitable for anyone with a disability small room bathroom shower too small. no hand soap shower too small small bedroom no hand soap
The hotel is well situated, giving easy access to the city and its sights. My room was comfortable while not being luxurious. It exactly fitted the bill for my stay and was a reasonable price. The electric fan in my room was appreciated! Parking is a real bonus!
It's quite close to the railway line! I'd have liked the windows to open further. There was a security light on all night (and still in the morning) right outside my window. The television reception was a bit erratic.
Smooth operation on booking and checkout, friendly, patient service, excellent restaurant and bar. Quiet part of town.
One night I returned to find no towels in the bathroom of my room.. The chamber staff had taken the old towels away and not given me clean ones. However, the receptionist immediately supplied new ones, a minor glitch, no real problem.
The food was excellent
Lack of Real Ale at bar. Room lacked cooling facilities on a very hot day.
location for durham
building works next door, started at 7am, not hotels fawlt, but was a minus
The hotel looks cute, the deco fits the old time architectures well The room is fair sized and the beds are pretty comfortable. Even though there is no air condition, the fan provided is sufficient enough. The cleaning staff opened the window everyday, so the room was not very stuffy when we returned from a day's sightseeing. The staffs are friendly and accommodating. They let us print our boarding passes using their computer. Breakfast is good.
The shower is small and there is no proper place to place soap. The hotel provided shampoo and handsoap, but no bath gel or soap. Luckily, we brought our own. The staff failed to mentioned that there is a room where you can have tea. We discovered it the morning we checked out (I assume it is for all the guests. Am I right?) We spent three nights there, I'd have like to have some quiet evening time there, and some tea as well, while the girls fought with the TV. The TV lost its signals quite often which annoyed the girls no end.
