In scenic Croxdale, the Honest Lawyer Hotel is just 5 minutes’ drive from Durham centre.
Score from 906 reviews Very good
Just 1 mile from Durham Rail Station and city centre, the Radisson BLU Durham has fantastic views of Durham Cathedral. It offers stylish rooms, free Wi-Fi, a restaurant, bar and modern health club.
Score from 971 reviews Fabulous
Home-cooked food is served in The Garden House Inn’s wooden-beamed, contemporary restaurant and a roaring open-fire features in the bar.
Score from 152 reviews Very good
In the heart of Durham's city centre, within easy reach of the A1 and less than 500 metres from the castle and the train station, this modern hotel offers great value and spacious, modern rooms.
Score from 547 reviews Very good
Position, room was nice, quiet location but 10 minute walk into centre
Good position with helpful staff
A little dated and very hot!
Location is excellent if arriving by road or rail (we did both). Staff are helpful and friendly. Very easy access by foot to Durham City and all the sites and facilities of this lovely city.
The bed in our suite was a little too soft for our liking and the noise from the restaurant below (separately managed) early in the morning on the Sunday was annoying. Otherwise highly recommended.
Building site view
Food in restaurant was delicious Staff were pleasant
My room was very cold, there appeared to be a draft from windows. I stayed in a twin room and had to use the second duvet from second bed as well as the one on the bed I slept. I still woke up with quite a chesty cough, sore throat and headache which did not ease in any way. I informed both the ladies cleaning and the reception. I was not offered so much as a breakfast or tea in compensation.
Clean rooms cheery facility. Lovely staff and food at breakfast and bar
My twin beds in room 10. The mattress had seen better days.
It was in a good location for all amenities, on site restaurant and bar clean comfortable room and parking was a plus
staff were so helpful and friendly Cleaning staff changed our towels every day and we there for 5 days! Proximity to Railway station and town centre. Good bus service. Restaurant was excellent but need to book!
Not a 'didn't like' but a suggestion that perhaps rails could be installed to help get into bath. They are very deep baths and when you are only 5' it feels very unsafe.
Beautiful location. Excellent accomodation with lots of character. Friendly and helpful owner and staff. Wish we could have stayed longer. Highly recommended.
Located within short walk of Durham rail station, but be prepared for steep pull up hill to the hotel and when headed back to the rail station. Also, nimble feet suggested when crossing traffic on North Road. Staff at breakfast was nicely attentive to request for quick service when we had to depart early to catch a train. Common area on ground floor was a quiet comfortable place for afternoon tea with our fruit and pastry carried from shops in town. Easy walk into city proper to visit university, cathedral, restaurants, etc. Durham offers costly, luxury accommodations, but seriously consider this hotel for a good, clean place to sleep, eat breakfast, and pay a fair price.
Large twin bed room had appearance and feel of a basic dormitory, but proved to be practical and quite adequate for our quick 2 night stay.
Extremely comfortable bed!
Comfortable room. Excellent breakfast in smart dining room. Very good central location
We had an excellent breakfast in a well-appointed restaurant - it was a pity that we did not sample its evening meal as we had a prior engagement in the city.
Friendly efficient staff - comprehensive range for breakfast. Comfortable room with a nice sofa. Very tranquil location - as we were out all day the building site next door made no difference to us and when the work is finished it will be really peaceful all day. Handily placed for a short stroll into the City Centre to visit the castle and the Cathedral.
These are minor points and are not really criticisms. The shower cabinet is too small - I am a larger than average man (but not overweight). The wifi is a bit slow (but then it is free so not a complaint)
Easy walk to city centre and friendly staff
Bar closes at 11pm
Nice breakfast; helpful staff
Room too hot
price and location
we stayed in room 13 and i think it is above the kitchen and it was extremely noisey into the early hours
This hotel was our choice for a one night stay after a wedding. The staff were very helpful in accommodating our arrangements. The whole hotel has a lovely welcoming atmosphere. The food is amazing!! Breakfast was magnificent with fabulous quality produce. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Thank you to the hotel staff team.
There was a building site, houses are being built next door. This did look a bit off putting at first. There was no noise at all!! I was very much relieved about this matter.
The hotel was in a good position for sightseeing in Durham. The restaurant was excellent.
Bedroom was small and stuffy even though the window was open. It overlooked the kitchen and the noise from the extractor fan was quite loud when the restaurant was open.
Location, friendly/helpful staff, very clean, touch of luxury
hotel was in good place to reach town, al tho its next to a building site. hotel handy to reach train station and town altho next to a building site. Finbarrs restaurant was nice but over priced.
we ate at finbarrs night we arrived ,good food but very overpriced.then you go upstairs to bedroom, you would think you were in another hotel 2014to going back to the 70s. Very dated, old curtains, poor quality bedding, again old and thin.Carpet pretty grubby. They need to spend money on the hotel.
small bed, claustrophobic shower, too warm at night, mould in the bathroom
Over whelming smell of cleaning fluid in bedroom Bathroom and toiletries were very basic Mirror in bathroom too high No hairdrier
Fantastic setting (and it will be even better when nearby building is completed) and pretty central. Breakfast was excellent. Easy check-in and check-out. Plenty of parking spaces.
WiFi unreliable in room; their wifi router needs a range extender. Our bed mattresses were past their use-by date and need an update.
