In the heart of Durham's city centre, within easy reach of the A1 and less than 500 metres from the castle and the train station, this modern hotel offers great value and spacious, modern rooms.

i like the location
there was some construction around, still very quiet, but not feeling comfortable. A little off the main road to find. Feeling not too much security in General. Also a bit far from city center actually. Long Slope from station.
Restaurant. Breakfast was good and in pleasant room. Helpful receptionist.
Plastic shower cubicle. Very dark room. Window covered by trees. Noisy early morning building site nearby.
... and the Kings Lodge Hotel is a good place to stay overnight. The restaurant is a little bit expensive but it serves excellent food. The historical centre with the cathedral should not be missed. There are also nice paths along the river.
Easy walking access to all tourist sites Easy wifi set up friendly staff good heart breakfast
The staff were great and helpful. Close to town east acces to every where. Good good rooms good
Availability at short notice Somewhere safe for my bike Friendly staff Good evening meal
Room too hot No fair trade tea and coffee Quite hard to find
Some generator noise below room window all night long
Wonderful breakfast provided, nice sized room, fast wi-fi, and beautiful view from my room.
Bed was slightly uncomfortable.
breakfast was good. Gave us a reasonable place to stay within walking distance of Durham Cathedral with a place to park the car although a longish walk
with the many options in Durham, this wasn't a standout in charm, service or décor. Construction around the lodge and a gritty location were drawbacks. The wifi didn't work until morning which was a problem. After an arduous drive to Durham, the restaurant in the lodge didn't work for us. We were expecting something with more charm and welcome.
quality of the rooms . friendly staff Great tasty breakfast
We found this hotel in easy walking distance of the town centre and restaurants. Their breakfasts were very nice and the waiting staff polite.
They didn't supply shower gel or soap, they said we could use shampoo which is not as good.
Room was clean and comfortable with all ameneties. Restaurant food was good. Lounge area was very attractive. Handy location for walking to the cathedral and restaurants.
Noise during the day from construction next door, but that couldn't be helped.
Excellent position to walk to town centre, attractions and restaurants. Good breakfast with cheerful and efficient staff.
Building work next door to hotel
It is well situated for the Center of Durham, just a short stroll. The restaurant is excellent but maybe a little price
At present there is much building work being carried out adjacent and therefore rather noisy early in the morning.
Staff very obliging.Very helpful and courteous.
Hotel needed updating compared to restaurant. Building site next door.
Friendly staff. Adjacent to woodland for morning walk. Ideal for popping into Durham.
Room very hot and stuffy and we didn't sleep well. Some people outside talking in the early hours also kept us awake. No staff on overnight so no one to complain to. Restaurant is fine dining used by locals which is great for the area but we had to walk down to a pub for something more family-friendly. Place could do with updating and a really good clean.
Bed was comfortable. Location was convenient,
Room did not seem really clean. Carpet was worn out everywhere.
Very accommodating and friendly staff. Rooms and public areas were clean. We wanted somewhere that was a short walk from the attractions, but away from the busy main streets. That was what this hotel offered.
Sound proofing between rooms was poor, which disturbed sleep.
Finbarr's restaurant in the hotel
the air freshener
Very welcoming on my arrival, very accommodating nothing to much. Wonderful comfy bed and a lovely hearty breakfast.
Couldn't fault it
Located conveniently for the city. Efficient, friendly staff Covers all the bases with on-site restaurant (which we did not use), and bar (which served an excellent pint of Timmy Taylor's Landlord!)
Short walk to town, close to railway station ,pleasant staff, good food in restaurant
Bed low down , quality of sleep poor
Close to the railway station and viaduct and within easy walking distance of city centre
Not easy to find.
Location was good (close to the town centre) Staff were helpful
The floors are very noisy when people are wlking around in other rooms Breakfast fruit could be cut and put in a big bowl, rather than just a piece of fruit.
Hotel staff welcoming and friendly. Food in the hotel was of a very good standard. Location ideal to explore Durham. Only negative issue was that it was a warm night & we were unable to open the windows - they had been painted shut. There was a fan in the room but it was very noisy & didn't circulate very well. It was, however, a most enjoyable visit.
