I liked the olde worlde charm of the Kings lodge. It gives a warm welcoming atmosphere, but small enough in size to be personal. Our room was well appointed. The hotel is decorated and furnished to a very high standard. We would definately stay here again. The Kings lodge is within walking distance of both the bus and train stations, and close to city centre.

A very pleasant stay in a good standard hotel with friendly and efficient staff. Convenient for city sightseeing yet close to countryside. Finbarr's restaurant was excellent, really first class food and service in relaxing surroundings. The car park whilst perfectly adequate can be congested when the restaurant is busy- arriving to check in during mealtimes should be avoided.

King's Lodge has the feel of an old-fashioned country hotel, quiet, with pleasant and attentive staff, and attractive rooms and grounds. It's within walking distance of the railway station, even with luggage, and away from the noisier city streets. I'm glad to have discovered it, and should certainly return to it on a future visit. My wife and I appreciated the provision of two easy chairs as requested at booking. Only complaint would be slightly grubby chair upholstery.

Secluded location with ample parking and within easy walking distance of Durham City Centre.. Staff friendly and competent Double Room small but well equipped and clean There were tables set out in the garden in front of the Hotel, which was pleasant, given the high temperatures at the time of our visit.

We liked the fact that the hotel was within walking distance of the city. We also found the staff to be very friendly and helpful We found the bed quite uncomfortable and would recommend that better mattresses be bought, also thought that prices in restaurant were a little on the high side.

I liked the staff and their extremeluy helpful attitude. The room that I used was good and clean and the breakfast a joy. I think that the shower towels that were provided for a guest like me need to be larger.

Good hotel near the train station and close to the city center of Durham in a quiet area. The only thing is that it's near the bridge of the main railway line between London and Edimburg. I didn't earned any train during the night however.

Good value for money, excellent, clean room and en-suite. Polite, friendly staff. Fine breakfast, inclusive price. Very handy for Durham city. Will go there again, when next visiting Durham. Extended our stay for a second night with no difficulty. Car parking is difficult on Saturday night because of the popularity of the excellent FinnBarr restaurant attached to the hotel premises. However, there is local on-street parking quite close by. So, not a big problem. Also, it shows what a good restaurant this one is.

Superb restaurant with excellent food and service. However this was a totally different enterprise from the hotel and merely shared the building. The location was very handy for the station ( 5 mins walk) and city centre (10 mins walk) Disappointingly dowdy decor and my room was very small with windows that wouldn't open.hotel needs a thorough facelift to bring it up to the standard of the restauant.

I was only there for a short time so could not avail of the amenities but the staff were friendly, the room was nice and comfortable and breakfast was nice with a wide variety included in the price of the room. I was also very pleasantly surprised to receive a discount for paying in cash. I did not like the menu as there was nothing plain and it was too expensive. Also it was quite inconvenient having to provide credit card details when booking even though a deposit wasn't required as I then had to borrow one.
