Kings Lodge Hotel  

Bedrooms are very warm. It is easy to have a good night of sleep. I probably will recommend to a friend. It is very close to the rail station, bus station and town centre. You can go to whenever you want by walking.

Very disappointed with breakfast. Very tiny portion, not properly cooked and poor value for money.

Duvets and pillows

The hotel was set in a nice quiet location just on the outskirts of the town but within a 10 minute walk to the centre.

The room was very dated and not very well cleaned. As soon as you walked in the door there was a smell of drains and when you flushed the toilet it sounded like a fog horn. The mattress was well past its date and not very comfy. The staff at breakfast were not very welcoming and you felt they were eager to get you out as soon as possible. Choice of food was poor and nothing was replenished. Very poor value for money.

Small Room - Basic

I came with my sister, on the way home after a holiday in Northumberland, it finished the holiday off beautifullly, hotel was very good, Fab location, we did the woodland walk which is right next door to the Hotel, and Durham is a beautiful city, we will be back

The little touches such as tea/coffee availability in the guest lounge, good quality shower gel, complimentary papers at breakfast.

Hilly though not fault of hotel Bar mainly used by people waiting for resturaunt rather than as a pub

Hotel is old, furnishing is old and basic, double room was tight, double bed was small

Nice hotel in a nice setting. Very quiet neighborhood, except for the occasional train passing by on a nearby bridge (but not that often or noisy). Wildlands with walking trail behind the lodge made it feel like you were in the country, but it was easy walking distance to city center.

Do not like sleeping in an unattended hotel which was not staffed during the night! All 4 of us found this worrying in case of an event such as fire or even a burglar??

Only 5-10 minutes walk from station. Nice restaurant attached and there is a bar in the hotel.

Directions on website for walking from station to hotel need making clearer. Bed wasn't great - noisy and not too comfortable.

Good location for city centre, easily walkable in 5 mins. Ample parking, free wifi, and although I didn't eat in restaurant, I heard nothing but praise from other guests.

Rooms are comfortable and have tea/coffee facilities, but bathrooms could do with a little more attention when being cleaned.

I really enjoyed Finbarrs restaurant. As I have the same name I was surprised to find this place and how good the food is and at a very good price. Staff even let me borrow a mobile phone charger when my battery was low.

The location was ideal, being close to the town centre and all amenities and with a country park on the doorstep, literally! The food in the restaurant was sublime, the residents' lounge a bonus and we couldn't really fault anything. Thanks to Jess who is very friendly and helpful and a good advert for the Kingslodge.

First visit to Durham was pleased with the hotel I picked. It was lovely very homely, polite staff, great breakfast. We went by train from Hull and left car at home the hotel was five mins from station ask the lady in the shop within the station, when we went out we where about ten mins from the mine street with the shops and pubs and the Cathedral and Castle where within walking distance too. Had a great time would diff go back. Need to wear comfy shoes.

Single room was what it said it was, a single room adequate for a night or two at most I am not the smallest or slimmest guy in the world

loved the restaurant for our evening - Finbars. Food and service excellent. Hot plates too!!

Breakfast menu was limited. Choice of draught lager was non existant in poorly stocked bar.

Free wi-fi, close to city centre with easy access to countryside, 'dated' (but acceptable for the age of the property) decoration style and breakfast included with room.

Didn't see any access facilities for disabled clients, no 'covered' refuge for smokers during inclement weather and I booked a family room for three 'adults' and the accommodation included 1 single and 1 double bed (just as well that one of our party dropped out before our arrival).
