Kings Lodge Hotel  

Bedrooms are very warm. It is easy to have a good night of sleep. I probably will recommend to a friend. It is very close to the rail station, bus station and town centre. You can go to whenever you want by walking.

Like being in the country in the city as Durham is such a small town. Very clean, well proportioned rooms. Lovely breakfast, staff very helpful. Off the street, so very quiet. Interesting (but fairly expensive)dining room onsite as well.

The manager of this hotel has a most unpleasant attitude towards its guests. They sent us a really stupid, petty and aggressively-phrased email about check-in hours: totally ludicruous. The wifi did not work in our room. The central heating was wastefully high through the night. My bed was so ridiculously small that I could not fit on it (I am an average height male). Breakfast was poor and mean. All in all, a really overpriced, poorly managed and pretentious B&B that presents itself as a "hotel". Really bad value for money. Will never go back.

The friendly & helpful staff and the good breakfast. Provision of hair-dryer and ironing board.

The shower fluctuated between cold and luke-warm and no shampoo or conditioner was provided. Partition walls are very thin- though fortunately everyone was very quiet, so this wasn't a problem in practice.

Very litle. Duvet on the bed was too hot and heavy for the lovely weather though!

Situation amongst trees - dawn chorus (but not sure about the building/demolition site next door - it was weekend so nothing happening when we were there). Convenient for city centre with the advantage of parking on site.

The bedroom next door had a very squeaky floor and we could hear every step our neighbours took.

Finnbars Restaurant in Hotel was excellent in all respects menu selection, quality ,service and value for money. First hotel in a long time with good WIFI connection and speed.

Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. Finbarr's restaurant was superb. The hotel was conveniently located for exploring Durham

The room was a bit cramped but it was clean and comfortable. The restaurant was often booked up and there was no priority for guests.

Good hotel ,centrally located. Steak meal we had was very good. Breakfast good.

The offer of being collected from the railway station - very much appreciated as I arrived in the rain at 10:30pm, and although it is only a short car trip, the walk would have been quite a trek in those conditions! Also, the offer of leaving my luggage at the hotel whilst I worked in the morning, and caught an hour of sight-seeing in the afternoon. Re. Booking.com - I liked the service provision that alerted me immediately to the problem with the hotel I had booked; the follow-up call when I did not respond to the original email; the offer of suitable alternatives; and the support with making a new booking when I was rushing to catch my train up to Durham.

Location was good for the city. Staff were very friendly. Facilities in the room - very good. Breakfast was very good. Parking facilities very good. Good value.

Particular room we were in was very dark. Mirror in bathroom was not set for a lady to use - set quite high - and with the dark room and the room mirror, make-up, hair, etc was hard work.
