With free parking, a restaurant and bar, this peaceful Edwardian hotel is beside the sea. You can smell the fresh, salty air even on a calm day. Located on the Edwardian promenade in the popular seaside resort of Worthing, The Kingsway Hotel is a quiet home away from home. There is an elevator to all floors. All rooms have private bathrooms, telephone, Freeview digital TV and hospitality tray. Most also have a suit press and ironing facilities. A restaurant is on the first floor and offers a daily set menu. The sea-facing bar has a large selection of dishes available daily, with a selection of locally caught fish among them. Hotel Rooms: 36

English hospitality at its best! A helpful receptionist who actually cared that you had the best possible stay. I was given an upgraded room overlooking the seafront which truly enhanced my visit to Worthing.

We liked the room, its size and decor suited us very well. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel was a little way from the town centre but it's level and easy to walk into town. The sea view was pleasant, despite the windy winter weather. The dining room, where we only had breakfast, was airy and pleasant too. Restoration is ongoing, and what has been done is good, but there is a long way to go. When this is done the hotel will be even more comfortable.

Friendly staff and a clean cosy room. The tv had a nice clear reception. Not a lot really. Would comment the electric towel heater in the bathroom had only one setting - hot and it was set to constant so not very e-conscious. There was only one tiny tub of milk left with the kettle... The windows were rather dirty, understandable for winter and being by the sea but it really did ruin any chance of oblique sea views.

Clean and tidy. Only complaint would be lack of parking. Guess most of the hotels on the seafront are the same though! Oh and no breakfast included in the room price.

Staff were very friendly, perfect location, very centrally located. Very good value for money, considering it is on a beech front location. Breakfast was fabulous. Bonus was upgraded to a double room free of charge. Should have more parking. Room itself could do with an update. It was clean, but could do with updating ie linen, curtains etc. Very country cottage looking.

Location & a good greating on arrival. The shower was hopeless & they had kindly left a previous occupants rotting orange peel in the bin which would make you suspicious of the quality of cleaning.

Not a lot, it was in a convenient position and our room had a lovely sea view. Was dissappointing. On the hospitality tray we were supplied with only two of everything with a note that we would have to pay for extras. The cost of breakfast which was not included in the room price which is unusual was £9.95 which seemed rather expensive was a bit meagre for the price. The room which was one of the dearest in the hotel was shabby and the bed covers seemed dusty. Also the television wasnt working which we reported. Would not stay there again.

Alice the receptionist was the nicest of all people. After having had scalding tea poured down my back at breakfast by a young inexperienced waiter, I spoke to the manager early evening who offered to launder my clothing, which I didn't accept as it was all washable, I felt that he did not respond to my situation in a very professional way. He was more concerned that the young waited had learnt his lesson because some of the tea went on his arm. They failed to emply enough staff to cover 52 women needing to fed at the same time in order to attend their conference. As above and also that the toilet in my room was not working. It was attended to on Saturday but not sufficiently for 2 people. When we booked in February 2011 it was listed as a 3 star hotel and the prices reflected that. When we got there one star had been covered over, implying that it was now a 2 star hotel, but no reduction in cost was forthcoming. One of the party had booked a superior double room for use as a single and it was very inferior.

“My wife and i had an absolutely fantastic stay at the Highdown Hotel, The room was better than we expected and the staff were absolutely fantastic and we cant praise them enough. We ate several times in the restaurant and must say the food was delicious on every occassion. The bar was a bit pricey but acceptable, the management were a very nice couple and seem to work very hard every time we went to the bar or restaurant they were on duty and always had a smile. We cant recommend this place enough and we will definately be staying there again in the very near future,!! Well done the Highdown !!” Ann, Alvington |
