Location - close to M74 and easy to find. Food - very good meal and value for money. Staff - very friendly. Dogs allowed. Owner has dogs which roam around the public rooms. We didn't mind at all but could see it may upset some people. Cleanliness - very good

No English breakfast - which we knew about in advance.

The location, just off the motorway, is good and there was no road or rail noise. The wholegrain toast at breakfast was nice

Allegedly a "honeymoon suite" but the room had a very small double bed Basic breakfast Extremely poor TV reception in the room with no remote controller 'Welcome' tray had just 2 teabags Doggy smell

The couple who own the hotel are lovely. We go back as often as possible and have recommended to friends who have stayed. Lovely old house and grounds, an ideal stop on the way up and back from scotland

Really enjoyed our overnight stay. The Hotel was in an ideal location, as we were travelling to the Commonwealth Games. We had booked two rooms and they were spotlessly clean. The whole stay was fun and the food was excellent. We were made to feel very welcome. Loved the three dogs, they kept us company in the bar.

The hotel is in an excellent location near the motorway. The staff were very attentive and looked after all needs. The adjoining dining room offered a very fine dinner, and breakfast was a nice spread.

    Not much!

It is a lovely building, room spacious and clean, bar area very interesting.

The breakfast was awful, few cereals, fruit, yogurt, cold meat and toast! No croissants, or rolls for meat, no eggs! If this hotel offered a cooked breakfast it would be great!

Pleasant surroundings, a nice place for an overnight stay / a couple of days. You shouldn't be averse to train noise though - the main Glasgow to London line is quite close by and trains run right through the night!

Warm friendly reception from the hosts (and the dogs!)

Room needed a little updating with the plumbing (toilet didn't flush very well) and the grouting in the bathroom tiles needed re-doing.

The owners were friendly and really welcoming. Lovely relaxing weekend away. All food home cooked and excellent. Hotel very clean and no worries about parking.

Just wish cooked breakfast was included rather than continental.

Staff were very helpful. Owner prepared us food ie omelettes that were not on the menu and was very reasonably priced

Owners Dogs allowed in all areas of the hotel including dining areas. Don't enjoy having a dog begging and whining at your table. Some areas of bedroom had cobwebs and bathroom not cleaned. Shower head not working , old and most holes not working! Room not serviced, when queried were told only one key and we had that!!!!! Not sure if this is a family home or hotel. Will not be returning!

Convenient location on way from Scotland to England. Not your usual Hotel Chain hotel. Interesting history of Kirkconnel Hall. Relaxed atmosphere.

Lack of a modern walk-in shower in Room 1.
