Great location. Quiet room which was spacious with its own sitting area. Romans are currently being refurbished as the establishment has been taken over by new owners. This once great Inn is likely to improve considerably with the new owners. We have stayed in their other establishment up the road.
The staff were average - but it is a country Inn. They weren't great, but they weren't bad. They don't know any better and just need training. The breakfast selection was basic, but the cooked breakfast was nice. The Reception area is scarcely furnished from what it used to be. There was a band in the very small bar area in the evening which meant it was too noisy for a quiet drink.
Nicely refurbished Friendly staff Good food in dining room.
Staff were very friendly variety of food along with .the quality was excellent you will not find many hotels of this size any better
Liked the restaurant and the quality of food which was value for money Staff were very good polite and helpful
Last minute booking after scattering my Mothers Ashes. I needed bed but great company first having a wee tipple and the feel of Scotland and with their Tartan carpet it gave me everything wanted... Feeling of home although not...
For the ultimate Hotel experience... Creeky floors...
Great location and place has a lovely homely feel to it. Decor is traditionally Scottish with lots of tartan. Food, restaurant and bar area great and the locals are really friendly
Bedroom Bathroom needs refurbished, had to rig shower hose to get any water out - signs up saying place is starting refurb next week - hope they start with bedroom bathrooms
Bedroom maintenance poor, sash window cords all broken and hanging loose, crude wooden wedge to hold window open. Ill fitting shower curtain. WC cistern very slow to fill. No wifi on second floor where best rooms are.
The food was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful !
The accommodation is very tired and in great need of an update. We had a premier room and felt it was definitely not worth the money !
Shower in bathroom was of poor quality. Breakfast time ends at 09:00 where as most other hotels breakfast ends at 10:30 over the weekend. Wonderful location but the place needs a refurbishment ASAP.
The staff were very efficient and friendly, especially the female manager. I stayed at this hotel a few years ago and the standards have dropped considerably.
The valance on the bed was filthy. The chicken I ate on first night was off. The furniture in the room needed cleaning. The bedroom windows needed cleaning.
The location is great. But rooms are very overpriced for what the current standard is. If it undergoes a full refit which it desperately needs I'm sure it will live up to how it is described on the website.... Very misleading.
This review is prior to the 'refurbishment'. No hot water, extremely worn mattresses & no protectors. Bathroom extremely worn. If you have no standards stay here!
Convenient location. Good restaurant.
Could use an update, and shower curtain and fixtures needed a good cleaning or replacement.
We arrived, were given a key and told to go up stairs at the side of the building to our room. As there was no breakfast on offer, a basket on the landing told us to leave keys on departure. Never saw a member of staff (or anyone for that matter) except when registering and paying.
Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Room was good and had all we needed. The restaurant was also very good and extremely good value. Thank you!!
Can't think of anything, we were all very happy!
Staff trying very hard, good location, plenty of parking. As we were there a week and hotel was quiet we were upgraded to a suite This was a lovely space & good sized bathroom.
Having been upgraded & on unpacking it was obvious theroom had not been used for ages as eeverything was covered in dust. Never seen anything like it. Simple repairs ( glass shelf above basin missing) just left. Obviously lack of investment in small things. Poor breakfast by todays standards (thinly ready sliced cheap bread toasted) We have stayed before so disappointed
Headboard broken & left in cupboard - TV too small & no picture. Badly cracked cups in bedroom. Poor outlook from window. Generally tacky. Shower curtain dirty & stained. Cobwebs from ceiling. Too chintzy & needs updating.
It was conveniently located for a local wedding we were attending. The cooked part of breakfast was a pleasant surprise served from the bar. Asked for poached eggs and they came out lovely.
Sad, tired hotel in need of refurbishment. Bath badly stained, wash hand basin cracked, every floorboard creaked. Toilets in bar a disgrace, especially since everyone is invited to use them while walking the John Muir Way - a sad welcome to weary walkers. Breakfast basic, some cereal and orange juice only, no fruit, yogurts etc, but cooked part was enjoyable.
The food in the restaurant was lovely.
The rooms could have been better and they messed up our booking, booked a double room and landed up in 2 single beds.
Not very much as they did not have our booking. After 30 minutes of so they found us another hotel and it was great.
They told us that Booking.com had not sent on our booking. We had booked this hotel as it was a favourite with our parents and we wanted to stay there because of memories but it wasn't to be.
Comfortable bed, nice big bedroom and bathroom.
The hotel looked a bit tired, could do with being redecorated. The bedroom needed a deep clean. I thought that it was overpriced.
The view from my mirror as I drove away !!!
When I arrived I was told there was no chef which meant u could not have anything for dinner You would think some of the staff would be able to offer a sandwich which anyone can make as a after travelling from down south I was looking forward to dinner When I went to my room I found that there was no wi fi in the room also maybe to poor signal or maybe that wasnt working also Terrible hotel terriblr service not even able To offer a discount when I complained about these issues Sorry but in 2014 this is not acceptable !!!!! Won't b back
Location was suitable for early morning meeting
Hotel is filthy. Amazed that this can pass any hygiene standards and that booking.com can advertise this as suitable.
staff very friendly and remember me from previous visits, have also on two occasions squeezed us in, at the last minute. easy for not very computer literate person to book through booking .com.
a bit chilly last visit, but my fault for not asking someone to put radiators on.
