Bedroom maintenance poor, sash window cords all broken and hanging loose, crude wooden wedge to hold window open. Ill fitting shower curtain. WC cistern very slow to fill. No wifi on second floor where best rooms are.
The food was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful !
The accommodation is very tired and in great need of an update. We had a premier room and felt it was definitely not worth the money !
Shower in bathroom was of poor quality. Breakfast time ends at 09:00 where as most other hotels breakfast ends at 10:30 over the weekend. Wonderful location but the place needs a refurbishment ASAP.
The staff were very efficient and friendly, especially the female manager. I stayed at this hotel a few years ago and the standards have dropped considerably.
The valance on the bed was filthy. The chicken I ate on first night was off. The furniture in the room needed cleaning. The bedroom windows needed cleaning.
The location is great. But rooms are very overpriced for what the current standard is. If it undergoes a full refit which it desperately needs I'm sure it will live up to how it is described on the website.... Very misleading.
This review is prior to the 'refurbishment'. No hot water, extremely worn mattresses & no protectors. Bathroom extremely worn. If you have no standards stay here!
Convenient location. Good restaurant.
Could use an update, and shower curtain and fixtures needed a good cleaning or replacement.
We arrived, were given a key and told to go up stairs at the side of the building to our room. As there was no breakfast on offer, a basket on the landing told us to leave keys on departure. Never saw a member of staff (or anyone for that matter) except when registering and paying.
Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Room was good and had all we needed. The restaurant was also very good and extremely good value. Thank you!!
Can't think of anything, we were all very happy!
Staff trying very hard, good location, plenty of parking. As we were there a week and hotel was quiet we were upgraded to a suite This was a lovely space & good sized bathroom.
Having been upgraded & on unpacking it was obvious theroom had not been used for ages as eeverything was covered in dust. Never seen anything like it. Simple repairs ( glass shelf above basin missing) just left. Obviously lack of investment in small things. Poor breakfast by todays standards (thinly ready sliced cheap bread toasted) We have stayed before so disappointed
Headboard broken & left in cupboard - TV too small & no picture. Badly cracked cups in bedroom. Poor outlook from window. Generally tacky. Shower curtain dirty & stained. Cobwebs from ceiling. Too chintzy & needs updating.
It was conveniently located for a local wedding we were attending. The cooked part of breakfast was a pleasant surprise served from the bar. Asked for poached eggs and they came out lovely.
Sad, tired hotel in need of refurbishment. Bath badly stained, wash hand basin cracked, every floorboard creaked. Toilets in bar a disgrace, especially since everyone is invited to use them while walking the John Muir Way - a sad welcome to weary walkers. Breakfast basic, some cereal and orange juice only, no fruit, yogurts etc, but cooked part was enjoyable.
The food in the restaurant was lovely.
The rooms could have been better and they messed up our booking, booked a double room and landed up in 2 single beds.
Not very much as they did not have our booking. After 30 minutes of so they found us another hotel and it was great.
They told us that Booking.com had not sent on our booking. We had booked this hotel as it was a favourite with our parents and we wanted to stay there because of memories but it wasn't to be.
Comfortable bed, nice big bedroom and bathroom.
The hotel looked a bit tired, could do with being redecorated. The bedroom needed a deep clean. I thought that it was overpriced.
The view from my mirror as I drove away !!!
When I arrived I was told there was no chef which meant u could not have anything for dinner You would think some of the staff would be able to offer a sandwich which anyone can make as a after travelling from down south I was looking forward to dinner When I went to my room I found that there was no wi fi in the room also maybe to poor signal or maybe that wasnt working also Terrible hotel terriblr service not even able To offer a discount when I complained about these issues Sorry but in 2014 this is not acceptable !!!!! Won't b back
Location was suitable for early morning meeting
Hotel is filthy. Amazed that this can pass any hygiene standards and that booking.com can advertise this as suitable.
staff very friendly and remember me from previous visits, have also on two occasions squeezed us in, at the last minute. easy for not very computer literate person to book through booking .com.
a bit chilly last visit, but my fault for not asking someone to put radiators on.
Bedroom was very dated as was bathroom. Not great value for money.
Rather run down. Dirty, plastic instead of glass. No beans, yoghurt or fruits although on the menu for breakfast. Lousy coffee, missing bulbs, large dining room closed Don ' t gone near this place
nice big room/bathroom comfortable bed/sofa
One window was missing a window blind. The shower could have been a bit more powerful.
Food was excellent if not a bit pricey
Took ages for someone to book me in. Kept ringing bell at reception. Eventually someone from the bar came but couldn't find my booking. Wifi was slow and could only connect in bar or reception. They had spare rooms so I was able to stay. Comfortable and clean. Food was good if not a bit expensive.
Headboard ripped off wall and left. Shower and bath in bad state of disrepair. Toilet in bad state.
Food. Bathroom was not clean, Bath filthy, Wash hand basin cracked.
The food freindly staff, good location, only 30 minutes from where we stay.
Reviewed 5 August 2013 NEW Disappointed with this hotel. OK It's very dated and an apologetic notice promising a refurbishment is displayed in reception. All very commendable but the price doesn't seem to reflect this. Our room was clean & just ok. Bathroom clean but bath was stained along with the floor. We can just about live with that. But our friends room was small and all windows were screwed shut so a token fan was provided which did little to ease the stuffiness.... very poor! There was also a lack of hot water at times. Food was basic and I had two hairs in my breakfast on the first morning! There were 6 of us and we asked for extra toast and they bought 2 pieces? What was really disappointing was the reaction of the staff to our several complaints. The stock answer appeared to be " sorry about that "...... very 1970's customer service. Asked for a cup of coffee at 10:30 am only to told we don't serve coffee till 11 am but lady " very reluctantly " served us. Just about summed up the whole experience. We won't be returning.
