Bit more work needed in some bedrooms
Good was cracking really good
Dirty room and bar area, no bar staff left waiting for a drink for 20 mins, leaky shower, room needs paint, no wifi in rooms only in lobby area, hard squeaky bed really bad nights sleep shame great location
Large rooms, excellent food and slightly faded glamour - my kind of place!
The building was lovely and the staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful.
Serving of breakfast was very slow. This would be relaxing with just adults but is difficult with young children to entertain.
I was there one night with my daughter before an early ferry to France (ferry port 20 mins away). We both appreciated the combination of sophistication and wildness, and my daughter (11) was so happy she was dancing on the beautiful lawn by the light of the moon.
The staff were so friendly and welcoming! The house itself was beautiful with wonderful gardens to relax in with a drink from the bar. Dinner was delicious and prompt in the beautiful dining room. We loved every minute of our stay here!
the breakfast, the building and the beautiful park
the linoleum in the bathroom, old...
very very nice historic house, clean room, good location in the nature enviroment
far way to town
Fabulous place for a really good price! Felt like being part of Downton Abbey!
The friendly staff Wifi Beautiful setting
Location friendliness and helpful staff
Thought restaurant charges high with limited menu. Could have done with a lift to top rooms for more elderly.
Location. Staff. Peace. Quiet. The Woodland walk.
someones old dirty sock under the bead - clearly it hadn't been thoroughly cleaned. Our window looked directly out onto a massive chimney stack - no view!
I have known this house since i was a child. The setting is wonderful: feels remote (though it isn't) and definitely calming. My bedroom and bathroom were large and well decorated - simple but in keeping with the house and not too much like a hotel! All the staff were helpful and one really thought they wanted the hotel to succeed. I shall be back!
Dinner on Sunday evening - the same menu as Sunday lunch - was awful. I had said i wanted my beef rare and it was definitely 'well cooked' and vegetables were piled on top and the 'pint of prawns' as the starter was in a beer mug, not what one would expect in a country house hotel, and were on lots of lettuce and in a sauce, quite a nice sauce, but more like a prawn cocktail. HOWEVER dinner on Monday made up for this and the dining room staff, however busy, were really helpful and the chef for Monday came out to talk to the customers which i thought excellent. There is no sitting room, which is not what one would expect and one would want in the winter and i gather a smallish room at the side, overlooked by a fire escape is going to be turned into one. I realise they want two of the main rooms for Conferences/Weddings but somehow i feel these rooms could be turned back into a sitting room when Events were not on.
Fantastic breakfast and friendly and welcoming staff.
Baking hot room
Beautiful setting , rooms ,food and grounds are superb
A lovely old hotel within beautiful countryside. Good restaurant. Attentive staff. We were upgraded to the Churchill Suite which is amazing.
Currently being refurbished and looking a little care worn.
Beautiful location, fantastic food.
Amazingly beautiful place
Attentive, friendly staff; high standard of dining in restaurant; beautiful grounds; easy parking; excellent value; good free wifi connection
Understaffed in restaurant and bar at busy times; lack of furniture in public areas; dirty glasses left out on terrace for days (due to understaffing?)
I felt like na Earl or a Baron. Pity that there is no Buttler... Very nice place, where you do feel like na English noble. Good restaurant, plenty of parking places, the quiteness is a must.
We didn't like the breakfast prices, and the lack of a living room .
The Churchill Suite was newly refurbished and was lovely, beds were very comfortable.
The night staff were very rude, they closed the bar at midnight and ordered everyone to bed!
Peaceful location in picturesque countryside. Free parking.
Rooms & decor on top floor very very tired, but still excellent for what you pay.
The Location was excellent and the staff were friendly and very helpful
Nothing, I enjoyed my stay and can find nothing negative to say
Excelent food and staff very friendly
Miss Paige. A lovely sweet waitress went out of her way to help. Fantastic garden. Quiet bar the geese! A wonderful old house with period features. Lovely people and the food was divine.
Rm 8 needs a little love. Missing draw handles and dirty extractor fan, Wood on windows needs replacing
