There's a wonderful smell in this house! And the dining with view of the gourmet chef kitchen is sophisticated.

    Liked, indeed, loved everything!

The welcome is always warm. The standards are very high , the rooms are very clean and comfortable. The breakfast is delicious there is lots of choice. We stay at the Knap when travelling to and from Islay to break our journey and recharge our batteries before the long drive home.It is good value for money and nothing is too much trouble. Will be stopping there again.

The friendliness of our host and the village people, beautiful location, and of course the Stornoway black pudding served at breakfast and available to purchase from the local butchers, which we did to take home!

As probably most of the guests, we stayed one night only, to get on the next day ferry (to Islay in our case) What we liked: The warm welcome by the owner The decorations The living room The surroundings

I honestly did not have something to criticise. Everything in Scotland is very expensive compared to the rest of the world, so one could say that the price is too high for the place, BUT it was actually one of the cheapest places in Scotland :)

Alistair is the perfect host. The guest house is right at the harbour & handy to all amenities. He recommended a great restaurant called starfish for dinner. Couldn't have done anymore for us and the guesthouse itself is beautiful inside.

The location of Knap guest house is fabulous. I loved the fact that Alistair has paid such attention to detail, down to the fact that the room we were in had dressing gowns, complimentary tea, coffee and water and that wee extra touches such as sweets in the room. The rooms are beautifully and tastefully decorated and I don't imagine anything would be too much trouble. Alistair makes a great breakfast right in front of you, no behind the scenes as the dining room and kitchen are in full view of each other. The choices are extensive. I don't think I would stay anywhere else in Tarbet and can see why he's constantly busy. Looking forward to a return visit.

We stayed here the night before getting on the ferry to Arran & it was perfect. A nice central location, good restaurants nearby, the room was clean and had all the amenities you could want. I highly recommend this B&B.

There is a sculpture by the staircase of two elephants humping, which some might find off-putting, but it wasn't a problem for me. I have nothing negative to report about this property. Top notch.

Alistair was a really nice, welcoming and helpful host. The house is bright, friendly, warm and comfortable. The surroundings are lovely - Tarbert is well worth a visit and is the perfect place for preparing an onward journey to Islay or the south of Argyll.

We arrived fairly late but Alistair was not bothered and was happy to received us. I was running a race and was leaving around 5am, so he allowed me and some other to help ourselves to breakfast, where he had set up everything ready for us. I thought this was fantastic and a great touch. The place is immaculate and Alistair is very warm and helpful. Would recommend this a place to stay!
