We liked the house from the outside and the view of the racecouse. Breakfast was good. We did not like the shabby and dated appearance of the room. Our evening meals were not good. Tasteless pork and warmed over steak and ale pie. |

It was within relatively easy reach of the town centre. Breakfast was very good and nice building with plenty of character. Receptionist who booked us in and out was a charm school reject. We arrived 15 mins before the allowed booking in time. She made us wait, told us the hotel clock was five minutes fast so it would be a twenty minute wait. The room was clearly ready when we arrived. Created a very bad first impression. Rest of staff were helpful and friendly. |

friendly and welcoming, very pretty place stayed in main building with views over the racecourse. The breakfast was excellent and vegetarian full breakfast was on the standard menu so didn't need ordering in advance am most impressed |

We liked the staff who were helpful and friendly. The breakfasts were very good and on the two occasions that we had dinner the food was good and the restaurant setting attractive. We had a big room with a four poster bed and a sunken bath, at no extra cost, which was great. It was also in a good location for getting into York on the bus (very frequent) and using our bus passes - a bonus. Car parking was another bonus. The hotel was in the process of being spruced up outside, and it needs it. However, although the decor/furnishings were not exactly "boutique" they fitted the general age and ambiance of the house, very good quality but a bit dated: a bit like us really! |

The staff were very helpful and happy. Our room was in the attic so part of it was in the evaes. We didn't have a window only a small slit and a fire door. The fire door had a gap at the bottom, letting cold air in. The skirting boards were not clean but the bed was lovely and comfortable. |

Friendliness of staff and easy access to room - chalet outside at back of hotel opposite car parking. Nice tray set with tea, coffee and biscuits.Lovely breakfast and very helpful breakfast staff. Toilet in our en-suite required a good clean under rim of toilet and round seat area. Cleaning staff need to pay more attention to this area. Room was very clean and fresh smelling. |

The food in the restaurant was unexpectedly good. The room was shabby and slightly grubby - the carpet, in particular, needed a good clean! |

The location was excellent, a 15 minute stroll into the City. A perfect spot for anyone attending a race meeting at York. More of a Motel than a hotel, room was extremely hot, we had to leave to door open for an hour to cool it off. The double bed was 2 singles pushed together with double bedding on. Impossible to take a shower as the water trickle was either very cold or unbelievably hot. |

Comfortable bar area.Newly decorated room. Breakfast area far different from the main dining room, really does require a major overhaul. It would be nice if they used 'proper' bread for toast and not wafer thin ready sliced |

I lost my passport on the way to this hotel. The staff went far beyond anything expected in assisting us to resolve this problem. We would love to return someday. |
