Clean Friendly breakfast staff
swimming pool not in use that was reason we booked!! Gardens run down due to selling of hotel? No restaurant as was advertised ..felt sorry for the hotel it was run down and basic but clean.
Good position just out of town God access to city centre by bus Reasonably comfortable rooms Excellent breakfast included Friendly staff
Should have been warned that the hotel was closing. Rather rundown (not surprising since we were among the last ever customers!) Pools were out of use. Little or no hot water
Room was tiny the shower was broken the swimming pool was empty
we had a nice kingsize room
my son had a chalet outside, which was so hot. We asked for a fan but there weren't enough. My daughter & family had a suite in the loft which had no opening window except the child's room .It was boiling hot, they did get a fan. The pool had been drained as the hotel would be closed that weekend. Furniture was removed , Breakfast was in the basement which smelt musty, we did not eat. The racecourse was opposite which was noisy as there was an event on. We were very disappointed as it was going to be a good last night of the holiday, with leisure facilities. Booked months ago. I think we should have been told beforehand about them closing next day.
The bed was huge. Very comfortable. Good location for the races.
Out of two rooms we got one big one and one tiny one with no proper window. The bar closes at 10pm
Booked the executive room and there was no running cold water, had to move to a smaller room which seemed very worn. No restaurant and no swimming pool due to water contamination.
Close to town Bus service outside property Breakfast good
Everything else was poor Badly maintained poor quality only one star quality Shower was pathetic Carpet disgusting
Hotel is dreadful, dirty, smelly, room 6 had a strong unpleasant smell, front room was noisy with a very uncomfortable bed and breakfast was not good.
very tired, room advertised as ensuite and instead was a weird combination of bedroom with sink in it and separate loo and separate shower cubicle off bedroom. Nasty carpet in toilet and room had stains. Very disappointing as not cheap.
not a lot
dirty very tired looking smelly shower room 2 teabags per day I packet of biscuits for two people. when we said something we were told oh well we are closing after this week!!!!!!!
the shower being in the same room as everything else the room was clean but poorly decorated the breakfast was good but the room was not value for money the towels were in poor condition with holes in
staff were friendly, room was comfortable , Breakfast staff and menu were really good.
toilet needed a bottle of bleach down it, bedroom chest of drawers have fronts that need cleaning also.shower hose needs replacing as water sprays everywhere.
The staff were friendly The breakfast was very good
The room was not clean, stained sheets, black sludge on the shower cubicle, rusted pipes. The door was not secure. We come out of the pool with a blue dye on our hands and feet.
-Cheap -Location was good for my trip
-Poor shower cubicle -wifi didn't work in my room
Breakfast room was nice, food on offer was varied and very nice. Staff were friendly.
Hotel in need of lots of TLC - looking very tired and unkempt. Found out during our stay that it is being sold to be developed into flats which is presumably why no work has been done on the décor. Swimming pool and Jacuzzi weren't clean - we didn't linger.
good breakfast, comfortable beds, helpful staff
attic rooms very small and uncomfortable to do anything (make tea, unpack). Bathroom impossible to have a shower as the handheld shower attachment was not long enough to use where you could just about stand up. Understand this hotel has been sold and is closing at the end of July
Friendly atmosphere and staff helpful. Comfortable room Good breakfast menu , On the whole a nice hotel and good value
some options on breakfast menu not available .Dust noticeable on stairs but room very clean , shower looked a bit "Patched up", no hook in bathroom, The stuffed pheasant looked a bit grim !!
good base for the races.Handy and regular bus service into York.
We payed £109 for a small double.Way over priced.
Location was good
Very dated accommodation, dated dining facilities, would benfit from an overall facelift/money being spent, breakfast quality was average
Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast.
Room on the small side
I liked the actual building and the size of the room and bed. Location was jusr right for a good walk into the city (1.5 miles).
No restaurant (did not know until arrival) and everything in general was a bit "tired". No drat beer/lager and bottled beer only sold until 10.00pm
Location Staff were very friendly Liked the full English breakfast
The bathroom was in a shocking state Looked really manky with a clear need for a good scrub n upgrade There's no air conditioning and the window only opens to a certain extent. Felt so got at night that I could barely sleep
Knavesmire is a beautiful place to stay in,with lots of character, friendly staff and a real gem of a find. We're so sorry to hear that it's going over to developers;such a shame for this gorgeous place. For our daughter, she was more than thrilled to have her own room(we stayed in the Rowntree Suite) instead of sharing with mum & dad! Only a few niggles;our daughter's room had a window she could open whereas we only had the fire escape door which we couldn't leave open-it got a bit stuffy,so we left our bedroom door open. The radio reception wasn't fab,but just these 2 things were far outweighed in so much as we wanted to stay longer and were very sad to leave. A fantastic stay at a warm and friendly hotel.
As I mentioned above- no opening window in our room & radio reception.
