Really friendly staff Room was fantastic Great Value
Overlooking the Loch beautiful scenery
Room overlooked the kitchen and was noisy.
The room was large, the house is pretty. The view reminiscent of the lake of Geneva. We had a very good dinner though, gracefully served.
First of all we were misled in terms of the location of the hotel because booking.com gives distances in air miles and not actual driving miles. Arriving from the North, and its free open spaces, we had to drive past an industrial compound and then passed through a property belonging to the Ministry of Defense... We had been so spoiled by the magnificent landscapes we had seen in our previous week travelling through Scotland that we were slightly disappointed by the lovely yet somehow normal view on the Loch. We were even more disappointed when asking about the walks to do and the things to see around the hotel to learn there was not much. Our room was very large and very well furnished, yet the window was opening onto a wall and was above the hotel ventilation. Its noise Thank God stopped at night. Upon waking up, we went for breakfast at around 9:30 but we were told, no breakfast was served after 9. As we had paid for the breakfast we would have appreciated at least getting a coffee. We then decided to leave the hotel a night earlier as we fell stuck there, it is not the kind of retreat we were looking for and told the kind owner (at 10:15) it was just because of the location. We left, by an easier route South. Booking .com called us and said that the hotel was kindly not going to charge us for the night we did not spend there. Obviously we were very happy at saving 125£ as we had to book a hotel somewhere else. And rightfully just as disappointed when we saw our card was debited to learn that if the room had not been charged, a cancellation charge of exactly the same rate as the room's rate had been charged. Which I think is a rather dishonest manipulation of words.
I had planned a surprise at knockderry country house for a birthday treat for my partner and a treat it was, from the service ,food and accomodation, not to mention the scenery. It was an excellent start to our few days away. Thanks to Beth for helping me out with my surprise my partner really was impressed. Top marks for a beautiful place and to a very attentive staff. Well done Beth and Murdo. Could not fault the place just wish we could have stayed longer.
The Knockderry property is just outstanding, facilities were first class, as was the staff, food was amazing, atmosphere great.
Somewhat out of the way through winding country roads
The views from the hotel were great and the food was amazing.
We couldn't find fault with anything.
Views over Loch Long. Most staff were pleasant. Food very tasty but over- priced for small amount. Too nouvelle cuisine, bigger portions required.
First member of staff we met at reception. She came out of office, did not smile or welcome us, so poor start. Noisy room with poor insulation was disturbing.
Excellent room with a four poster bed and panoramic views across Loch Long from both the bedroom and bathroom. A separate walk-in shower and toilet added to the luxury. The general rooms of the hotel were superb.Excellent parking. We had a great price using Booking.com. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The food was excellent and beautifully presented in nouveau cuisine fashion.
The rainy weather but this was compensated for by the accomodation.
Nice homely place, excellent food, staff were very helpful very picturesque location.
quite remote but we knew that before going.
The excellent friendly staff and the lovely food.
Could do with radio in the rooms. I know it was on the TV but that has a light if you want to sleep. I know it's asking a lot but would have made the stay the best!
Everything. The staff were fantastic, nothing too much trouble. The rooms were beautiful, incredibly clean and the food was to die for. Can't recommend it enough.
Nothing. It was perfect.
Beautiful setting. Great restaurant. Very friendly staff.
Lack of care over small details
Having read the polarised reviews this property seems to generate I was very doubtful about booking it for one night. My wife said don’t. I am pleased I did as it was very good. There were signs to it once in the area and I can’t see how anyone could really not find it unless they are looking for a large non environmental sign in the middle of the road. Country places are in the country and you have to use a map, GPS or follow directions. I did have one of the more expensive rooms so I can’t comment on the others. Everything was fine and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Before I left they spent time advising me what to do in the Loch Lomond area and the scenic way to drive to Fort William. The dog was no problem at all and the food was excellent.
Because I was not there till early evening I could not park in the car spaces that were on the tarmac so I had to pull my case across some gravel near the car which made it harder to pull until I got to the tarmac. No real problem though.
Lovely location Comfortable bed Staff dealt with the coffee problem promptly, bringing a pot of coffee.
The shower over the bath was rather flimsy, not what one would expect for the premium price, and water leaked through the links behind the bath onto the floor-awash at the end, and a VERY slippy floor. The coffee maker was a nuisance- again, water dribbled out on to the tray and carpet- a crack in the water holder. The instructions in the room folder for it were like hieroglyphics- impossible to follow or even read. There were at least 15 different stages to follow. A kettle would be much better. Staff pleasant, but had to go and find them on a couple of occasions. Overpriced overall
Loved the friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. The food was great. Liked the individually priced items on the breakfast menu as it meant if you just wanted toast and tea that was all you paid for. Good sized comfortable room
Loved it all.
The menu could have had more variety. The specials never changed!
very friendly staff superb food and drinks very comfortable room with excellent views of the loch
