La Barbarie Hotel  

The hotel is just off the main road so it is very peaceful. Staff were really friendly and helpful. We stayed B & B and both elements were exellent. The beds warm and comfy, the breakfast varied and tasty. Also a good menu in the restaraunt at very reasonable prices. We would certainly come back again in the future.

This small, friendly hotel offers the most amazing menu and the dinner we had there was well presented and tasted wonderful. Even the scrambled eggs for breakfast were made to look special!

Visiting family on the island. We all thoroughly enjoyed staying at the hotel and could not fault it.

Excellent location with lots of interesting walks close by and a bus stop right outside giving good access to the whole island.

Our one bedroom apartment was quite cool and gloomy and the only window that got any sun was the bedroom in the mornings and as it was located next to the carpark there was no space to sit outside. The noise from the carpark and smells from the kitchen extractor could also be quite obtrusive.

the hotel is situated in a beautiful setting on a corner plot, on route to the beach at Saints Bay.this hotel offers you a chance to have that cosy getaway, whilst if you need to enjoy fine dining the menu here is excellent.The service throughout the hotel is efficient,welcoming, friendly and professionally carried out by well trained staff.Our self catering room was well presented and comfortable,with good facilities.transfer to airport or St peter Port shopping effortless,a few minutes by taxi.

an all round excellent traditionally furnished and well managed hotel with welcoming and very helpfull staf, set in quiet pleasant surroundings .Bedrooms were furnished making best use of available space . The menu was excellent and varied

It is the second time we have stayed with La Barbarie and loved it the first time and was not disappointed when we returned, we have stayed at various hotels on the island but this is without doubt the best!

The self catering apartment was roomy and well equiped. We ate at the hotel one night and the food was excellent.

This is not a complaint at all. We were travelling with a car, so were fine, but would be abit rural for people on foot.

We stayed in one of the 2 bedroom apartments. Very comfortable and quiet, although a bit drab. Having own cooking facilities and a bit more room than we were used to in a hotel room was a lovely change. The staff were very nice and the breakfast was well catered for.

If you are staying here or in other St Martins hotels without a car you need to prepare yourself for the irregular bus services. On our first day we just missed the bus that stops on the corner and had to wait an hour for the next bus or walk 25 minutes to the main road to catch another one. This is all ok if you are prepared before you get there. They do advertise on arrival the bus times- please read them early.

The staff at La Barbarie were charming and helpful, they made our stay even more enjoyable.

Occasionally the food was not up to standard. We were warned that the water pressure was low, and it cetainly was.

Perfect location for cliff walks and a choice of beaches within walking distance. Very helpful and charming staff who knew the area well and were able to offer good advice. The self catering apartment was comfortable and clean and well suited for a family holiday, (only room available when we booked). Good hot water supply and kitchen generally well equipped. Excellent food in the restaurant.

£136 a night for the upgraded rooms very disappointed, not as shown with balcony as on the website but a hot room with little air and two small windows! Told that we should have asked when we booked; booked on line so no opportunity to do this? They gave us a better for 3 out of our 4 nights; the room was totally different, spacious and airy with a great king size bed and great bathroom. When we had to return to our first room realised how bad it was, you could only shower if you sat. The food was not what reading the brochure suggested? We had decided on the Chateaubriand at £36.00 per head; when we ordered we were told that the last two had just been sold … don’t know who too as nobody in the restaurant had it. Asked why the chief didn’t just cut the Fillet to shape and pretend? We were told they come portioned? The Fillet steak was a first, as it was dry. Breakfast: none of the juice’s appeared to be fresh, coffee very dark and not very warm tasted of chicory, the full Guernsey breakfast contained a round egg put in a ring to cook, a sausage which everybody seemed to eat half of (the first morning) Menu said “Hash Browns” this turned out to be a single deep fried ‘birds eye’ type and was still ‘al dente’ at the centre, the black pudding had been cooked so long it could not be cut sent it to chief to have a go! + 2 bacon. Not a great start. Worse thing was checking out couldn’t unlock the door and we were stuck until girl opened it from outside, no fire thank god (room 7) btw not doddery 46yrs, 300 word only.
