The Queen's Head is a country pub from the 15th century, located west of Salisbury. It has real log fires, plenty of character and a tasty selection of food, wine and Real Ale.
Score from 45 reviews Fabulous
Nice, quirky establishment. Very homely. Good breakfasts. Friendly staff. Lovely quiet village. Another inn as an alternate venue for evening meals. Central location for visiting the area.
We were in the room above the kitchen and the noise until after they finished evening meals at 11pm was unbelievable. Banging, crashing, water running. It was obvious the kitchen sinks were under where the bed was and we were unable to relax until after 11pm. Poor sound insulation spoiled our stay. Mentioned it to the girl who was doing breakfasts when we left and asked her to pass out comments on to the management.
Lovely room and bathroom toiletries. Ground coffee on our tea/coffee facilities. Fresh milk also.Food absolutely delicious. Delightful staff. Warm welcome.
Felt decor dated. On v close inspection dusty skirtings in dining room. Dear old toaster very slow!
The friendly, welcoming staff, felt like visiting friends, extremely accommodating to our needs. The comfortable room. Gorgeous Cowshed products.
Didn't affect us because our bedroom didn't overlook, but the pub across the road had a lock-in and noise could be heard. The church bells were quite loud at 9am Sunday morning but we were already awake.
Very clean and quiet village. Perfect surroundings.
Just didn't understand the restaurant. I was hoping for a old pub like restaurant but it was like eating in a 70s living room. Also very dated and dark
We were warmly welcomed at La Fosse, the room was spacious and comfortable ( Stayed in Gold Hill) and spotlessly clean. Very good ensuite bathroom with Walk in shower. They went out of their way to ensure we had a good stay, which was highlighted by Mark the Chef and proprietor who cooked a special off menu dish for my Wife. We were very impressed by this. Excellent Food - Evening meal and breakfast. - highly recommended. Thank you for a wonderful stay
What a treat. I felt like I was having a mini holiday rather than being away for work. Lovely.
Loved the large super king sized bed in spacious room with sofa, overlooking the village square. Cranborne is picturesque and has a good village store, couple of friendly pubs, church, post office, and a garden centre that gives access to grounds of The Manor on Wednesdays. Breakfasts at La Fosse were excellent, can thoroughly recommend them, perfect porridge served with cream and brown sugar being just one of the varied cooked options. The breakfast buffet included the usual cereals and bread to toast alongside superb preserves, cheese and fruit. Freshly made coffee and tea. We only had one evening meal at La Fosse during our 3 night stay but was delicious, the cheeseboard was particularly impressive.
Didn't really dislike anything.
Lovely clean and large room. Excellent quality toiletries. Excellent range of drinks on drink tray.
Dark and quiet dining room at breakfast time.... Could do with a bit of music and curtains opening.
Bright & cheerful room at the front. Every detail was thought of. A very comfortable bed. The food was excellent and in generous quantities
Couldnt fault our stay in any way
Very warm and friendly greeting. Large and very comfortable room. Breakfast menu was extensive, cooked with local high end ingredients, really filled you up for a long working day
Pub opposite was rather noisy and open until around midnight, but not that bothersome as was mainly laughter and good humoured banter
A warm welcome. The quiet spacious room and especially the comfortable bed. There was a wide variety of food for breakfast.
We missed having bottled water and biscuits in our room. Shower cream was provided but no soap.
Quality of rooms
Presentation & food quality, at best fair Dirty tablecloths Limited buffet selection (fair)
Fabulous breakfast, lovely people
This was an excellent find. In a quiet village, but easy to get to. Good, clean comfortable rooms and really excellent food. We stayed three nights and were lucky enough to eat twice; we missed out on the first night as the restaurant was fully booked. The food is first class. We are both vegetarian and the menu was tailored to give us a choice, which we rarely get elsewhere. A1! Freshly prepared food, seasonal and most is locally produced.
the breakfast was ok
opposite a VERY noisy pub and car park. My queen size bed was actually 2 singles pushed together… No hot water 2nd night from tap and shower was hit and miss, freezing one minute boiling the next!!
Great food, nice village. Very friendly host (Mark).
Bed was zipped together twins.
love the quirkeyness, very welcoming
The peaceful and welcoming staff. The beautiful village location The excellent value for money evening meal All facilities clean and an air of individuality which gave La Fosss some special about it
What was not to like. Spacious room with excellent furnishings and new decoration. Extremely friendly and helpful host. English restaurant food to a very high standard and at a reasonable price. We spent a weekend at la Fosse on a reduced rate late booking which made this one of the best value weekends we have had in the area. We will go back and recommend that you give it a try.
Really struggling to think of anything. Clutching at straws I would say that the South African wine on the second night was not as good as the excellent Rioja that we had on the first night!!
We had to pay for extra coffee in the room ??
