Excellent food and service
Poor shower, low water pressure
Stopped here the 13th December 2014 and have to say was impressed. Good location, nice bar and restaurant area. Room was basic but comfortable and breakfast which was included in the price was excellent. Overall an enjoyable stay.
Helpful staff, friendly locals and nice manager, any request was handled quickly. Nice rooms for breakfast and dinner, good selection of whiskey at the bar.
Room carpet / skirting looked like it could be cleaner.
Staff excellent looked after me and my wife could not ask for more food value for money would stay again
pub was lovely, staff were friendly and everywhere was clean. Easy access into the city with bus stop right outside your door. Beds were comfortable and rooms were warm. Happy with price I paid, food was ok what you would expect from a pub
We had two rooms. One no problem good size, room 11 other very small only just enough room to walk between the beds, and sliding door into the bathroom as no room for standard opening door. Bathroom very small and not heated and room was next to the exit at the back you used if you were checking out early, so disturbed early room 5. no toiletries in bathroom except hand soap
Room was small but very adequate. Food was very good and well presented. Drinks in bar very reasonable. hope to go back again
the stairs but that is only because I don't like spiral stair cases
It was clean with friendly staff. Good food and real ale.
Breakfast was great, room recently modernised and wall mounted tv. Restaurant provides excelent food with a varied selection.
Excellent price, good breakfast and a clean, comfortable room. All we needed for our overnight stay. Parking available and a nice pub for a couple of beers in the evening.
For the price there is nothing to complain about at all. Cosmetically was a little tired but was in the process of being redecorated during our visit.
The friendly atmosphere of the hotel made a real change from the usual chain hotels very welcoming and excellent priced home cooked meals and the homeliness of a real fire plenty of dining space in a lovely new conservatory would love to return to the laird and dog at some point
Unfortunately the hotel was undergoing renovation at the time and limited space which probably be rectified when it is finished .the bathroom in our double room was really too small.
Food was good. Hearty breakfast. Evening meal also.Steaks were average, though. Local Cask beer "Hopricot" with Apricots. Allegedly "one of your 5 a day". Bedroom was large, warm and comfortable.
friendliness and helpfulness of staff excellent breakfast and service good restaurant menu great value
bathtowels very small main road a bit noisy
Ease of booking in. Everything was clean. Plenty of parking. Great breakfast. Friendly host.
Room is a bit small but one can live with it if you are just overnighting.
I like the location and the bed room, the shower facility was okay, the toilet was clean.
The bed room was too cold when I arrived, and the bar was too noisy for my liking.
Warm welcome and when I was told the restaurant was closed they offered to make soup and sandwiches Good range of cask ales Excellent breakfast will certainly stop here again when in the area
Was ideal for what we were looking for. Close to Edinburgh, close to where our function was.
Early breakfast available from 06.30
Air conditioning outside room 9, coming on at 06.00. Sounded like a couple of motorbikes starting up.
Quiet and quaint. Food was excellent.
Very convenient for a shopping trip to ikea - less than 10 mins from the store.
Relaxed atmosphere. Food quality and choice. Well stocked bar! Entertainment. (Halloween party). The staff couldn't do enough for you and the locals were very helpful as well with navigation.
Unfortunately there was a noisy extractor fan under one of the rooms so not such a good night sleep for one couple. Maintenance was being carried out which is great to have the rooms upgraded but you don't expect to not have access or leave your room to have towel rails and toilet roll holders fitted at 5pm in the evening. However this I guess this is a one off and the rooms now look tip top! Very apologetic workman but a little bit inconvenient.
The pub/hotel is in a great location for Edinburgh. The staff are very friendly. The food is delicious. We had an evening meal there with my son and daughter-in-law, who live in Edinburgh. All of us had different food and we enjoyed it very much. Breakfast was excellent too. The inn has wonderful character and atmosphere. Will be staying again when we visit my son.
There wasn't anything to dislike. (Maybe could have porridge on the breakfast menu.)
Ramshackled bedroom, mediocre breakfast, disinterested staff
The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful during my stay. Food good quality and portions. Breakfast excellent. Very comfortable beds and pillows. All the facilities you would need in a room to make your stay comfortable.
Decor a bit dated and worn out carpets, renovations are in progress
Room basic but fine Nice pub
