not much to dislike
Good location with the busstop just in front of the inn. Very helpfull staff, even made us a sandwich after arriving at 9.30 pm!
The hotel is clean and comfortable and there is a frequent, reliable and cheap bus service to Edinburgh city centre which stops right outside the hotel, so no parking worries. The food is ok though not remarkable and Adam, whose job title I don't know, was very helpful when our car broke down on the day we were leaving. He found a reliable mechanic and when the repair turned out to be a 2 day job found us accommodation as the Laird and Dog was fully booked. He went the extra mile and we were very grateful to him.
We had one dinner at the hotel. The food was acceptable but the service left a bit to be desired. We waited so long for cheese and biscuits we gave up and asked for the bill, only to find we had been charged for them. We were told a member of staff had gone to the shops for the cheese and biscuits! I asked for a cognac, and was served brandy with ice. I said I hadn't wanted ice so the waitress just fished it out and was terse when I said I didn't want my drink so cold. Not a good dining experience. Also it was a bit disappointing that a Scottish hotel did not offer skippers for breakfast.
We enjoyed the good rapport with the host and felt welcomed and relaxed. Ample parking space and within easy reach of all major roads in Midlothian. A convenient place to stay for exploring central Scotland.
Nothing to dislike
location, both dining area and bar super, friendly staff and atmosphere
Peaceful location outside Edinburgh but easy to get into town with bus right outside, comfy bed and all staff very friendly and helpful, car park, great breakfast and good value three course meal for £13.95
The service the hospitality the area the history of the building
The twin room needs to be taken out done away with very embarrassing for hotel to offer this room to anyone, Its certainly not worth £95 rather £40 if that. It maybe high season but this was a room thrown together with damaged second hand furniture and beds although the linen was spotless. The t.v was placed near the ceiling so very uncomfortable on the neck would like to think I could get a refund? Uncovered screws sticking out of the wall in the bathroom! Dangerous!shower cubicle terrible. All this reported to the housekeeping on leaving. Shame because everything else was really good
Very helpful and friendly staff. Good breakfast
Shower too small for tall people. Couldn't stand upright in it. All a little tatty.
Food was delicious - best Cullen Skink and Nachos that we have ever had. Location - so easy to travel in to the city by bus - frequent service from outside the door.
It would be nice to have an easy chair in the room (11) - there is plenty of space. The pillows were a little too firm for our liking.
On arrival the person who checked us in, Adam, was so helpful. The bus stops right at the door and he made sure we had the right money, time of bus etc. The room was very small and have had better bathrooms. The restaurant was very good also.
the public areas were pleasant. The old building was special
the toilet did not flush easily. there was mold growing on the shower curtain. Musty smell
Only the location.
Paid £50 a night. Signs outside pub offering £30 a night. Very noisey outside. Smokers using fire escape right next to my room.
Location for this particular stay Breakfast
The price. This was our second stay here and we new not to expect 5 star facilities. Dirty coffee cup / no hairdryer in what was a very basic room. For that reason I will probably not be stay here again
The food, staff, services, room, restaurant, comfortable bed
Couldn't shut noise of traffic out,
Lovely place, and reasonably priced, good food, reasonable distance for commuting to Musselburgh and Edinburgh
Friendly staff. An ideal overnightstop while travelling south from the Western Highlands of Scotland down to Greater London.
Nothing I can think of.
Comfy bed, lovely breakfast
On the hottest nights of the year we had to keep the windows shut on account of the traffic noise.
noisy room due to being by main road and door banging. Bedroom pocky with shower unit in need of replacement
Beautiful little inn, just what we were looking for. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Included breakfast was delicious, especially the full Scottish breakfast. Room quaint and comfortable. Would definitely stay here again.
Shower a little dated but nothing bothersome!
Pub itself nice as well as staff nothing else
rooms were horrible, no comfort at all not even light switch at bedside could hardly use toilet without putting yr feet in shower a disgrace to the B&B trade
off street parking, good meals, bus stop outside door, comfy bed, free wifi
room very small, bit noisy-thin walls
Customer service was given with a smile/ food was excellent/room was spotlessly clean and comfortable/free wi-fi.
I was working so could only sample the real ales
price for the room; location (close to Edinburgh)
