Very friendly staff, hotel is in a very good location for lake Windermere. Only thing we didn't like was the fact that there was no evening meal available and you had to walk a couple of hundred yards to it's sister hotel which would not be good in adverse weather.

We both liked it's size. It felt more like a home than a hotel. We had room 6 which had a great bath, loads of hot water and a good overhead shower. The bed was very comfy, good towels etc! Of great importance to us was the quiet location. A good spot for using all the bus links for getting to many different walks. Last but by no means least what a superb breakfast!! Well done to all the staff. Just one suggestion. How about a chair just inside the door so we could take our boots off. It was so cold outside sitting on the car boot to remove them. Many thanks, Mary and Denis Fox

A comfortable and spacious room with good views in a hotel in an excellent position very close to Pier Head, Ambelside. Fairly good parking. Excellent breakefast. None really, although we regretted there not being neither a bar nor a restaurant.

Our room had a lovely bay window overlooking gardens (though not, as the name implies, the lake). The bed was comfortable and the bath was large. We were well-placed for travel around the Lake District. Breakfast (served buffet style) was good, with a nice selection. We were greeted upon our arrival by a young woman in sloppy, low slung jeans and t-shirt, who hadn't brushed her hair and behaved in a very cavalier way when the bookings proved a bit confusing. The same can be said for her attitude in explaining how the hotel worked. It seemed very out of place with the ratings. Walls were so thin that we could hear people speaking as they entered and left the hotel, and every scoop of ice from the machine rattled in our ears. Also, the bath could have used a bit of updating.

Staying at Windermere for the Great North Swim June 2011 (it went ahead this year). Hotel ideally located for shops, meals in Ambleside and a 25 minute walk to the start of the swim. A bit pricey but the hotel was clean and well maintained with good full English breakfast and friendly staff. Would definitely stay again.

Very comfortable hotel. A short walk to the centre to find lots of shops, places to eat. View from our room was fab overlooking lake/mountains. Comfortable beds. Large room. Nice to have dvd and flat screen tv to watch a film after long day of sightseeing. Big bath to take a soak. Quiet area and rooms were quiet as well. Breakfast was very tasty. Nothing to complain about.

The staff were really helpful and lovely, we had to check out really early and they organised a continental breakfast for us the night before so we would have something to eat in the morning. The room was really nice and comfortable, we stayed in one of the hideaway rooms so had total privacy too. They dont have a restaurant but they did recommended a really good pub for dinner nearby which was excellent.

Nice rooms, very comfortable, good breakfast, great location Make sure you know where it is in the event you have to find it in the dark. Obvious when you get there, but the roads around there are a little confusing.

I booked this hotel as a last minute break for 1 night for my partner and I to relax and take in the beauty of the Lakes - an area we both love and frequent quite often. It is the 1st time we have stayed at the Lake House and immediately upon arrival you could tell it was a good choice. From the outside, the hotel immediately portrays a sense of better-than-the-average hotel in the area and this was re-inforced upon entering the reception area. The reception staff was polite, helpful and professional. Our room was one of the 'Hideaway' rooms located to the rear of the hotel and it was excellent. Very spacious, clean and comfortable. We both loved it and would definately go back to this hotel again.

It was a very relaxing stay, Lake house was very attractive building with large bedrooms, plenty of room all around. Staff were very helpful, would get you anything. The breakfast was very nice in a attractive dining room I think the fact that it did not have a bar, you could buy drinks but had to drink them in your room and only a limit variety, other than the bar could find nothing else wrong with it

The view from the window was great, the staff were very friendly, welcoming and professional and there was easy access to a range of good restaurants and good walks. The bed was comfortable and the shower very good. The information on the website said it was a few metres away from the lakeside - if didn't say you had to cross a busy road, on a bend (couldn't see oncoming traffic) to get there. The picture showed dressing gowns in the room, there were none. For the price I didn't expect patches of mold to be visible on the bathroom wall.

We especialiiy liked the location of the Lake House - it's set up on the hill overlooking the pier at Waterhead in Ableside. Our room was a big double room with a huge bay window and wonderful views of the lake. The decor was tasteful; all creams and whites and a cream four poster metal bed with white muslin curtains. The en suite shower room was superb, with under floor heating and a fantastic power shower! Friendly staff gave us a really warm welcome and were geuninely interested in our opinion on the quality of our stay. A little bit tricky getting up and down the drive or garden on foot. The drive is narrow and steep. The path in the garden is also steep and in the evening it's hard to see the path because of the lighting which was quite blinding.

The staff were friendly and helpful, the premises spotless, the location superb. The meal in the sister hotel was delicious and good value. We shall definitely be back. One window in the bedroom did not latch properly and occasionally blew open (very high winds).
