Said to be haunted by the ghost of Mary Queen of Scots, this Elizabethan hotel has historic features and a cosy restaurant. Charm and character mix with modern facilities.

Meal, crisp linen, fantastically clean, sparkly loo seat in the Ladies!
I liked it all
This super hotel is situated very conveniently in the centre of Uppingham, a very nice small town. Our room, which was very comfortable, was on the second floor and very quiet. The Staff were all really friendly, helpful and very professional, especially Abi and Tom. The food was exquisite and truly delicious.Well worth a visit, we would highly recommend this hotel.
This is not really a dislike, just a little comment that parking at the back of the hotel is a bit difficult at times, but bearing in mind the location of the hotel it is understandable and the staff did help us to park without blocking in anyone else.
bathroom was dirty
Superb quality of food in the restaurant. Friendly helpful staff.
Limited parking and no lift.
The staff, in particular Abigail, were amazing. Nothing was too difficult for them. Great stay would stay again without hesitation.
Large comfortable bedroom with the added luxury of a 'whirlpool' bath
The Lake Isle was a stylish, homelike experience. Well designed rooms with stylish furnishing, peaceful atmosphere, super-friendly staff.
Food was fantastic
Staff we're very friendly and helpful
Location on high street Style of hotel decor Helpful reception staff
These are minor quibbles: Inadequate parking at hotel itself, but I was given good advice re on street parking close by. Waitress was distracted when she took my breakfast order, so she got it wrong, but it was corrected.
Friendly and helpful reception. Nice bedroom, well appointed. Excellent food (dinner and breakfast).
No serious 'dislikes'
The staff customer care was excellent. The location, the quirky cottage with the lounge and the whirlpool bath , the restaurant food and the breakfast which was awesome !
Lovely staff Comfortable beds Quiet room
Room (no 4, I think), far too small for two people - we kept tripping over our cases and each other Bathroom also too small for two people
Everything, the hotel, service and food were excellent, however, the staff made our short break that extra bit special.
Room and en suite were first rate and the breakfast most perfect.
Rooms were comfortable and well equipped (although not huge - but for one night not an issue). Restaurant was great - delicious food and drink. Really enjoyed.
Perhaps breakfast could be included - even at a more expensive room rate , to make guests feel that breakfast (especially if you eat continental style) is not disproportionate in cost - small point - did not detract from stay at all.
Location, extensive wine list, powerful shower.
The room and bed were very comfortable, the staff welcoming and the cooked breakfast delicious and promptly served.
difficulty of parking
Superb staff and great rooms - hard to see from the street (it just looks like a restaurant), but the hotel is fantastic & luxurious - and the food is spectacular. The staff REALLY made it feel relaxing and were v flexible and helpful. Compared to everywhere else in Uppingham - this is a gem.....
Great food and accommodation at a competitive price
Beautiful rooms, traditional style, comfortable rooms, market town location, excellent staff, wonderful countryside, fantastic food
Some street noise, intermittent wifi
I booked this hotel as a surprise break for my 18 year old daughter who is studying at uni in Leicester, as she was working over Easter and wasn't going to be able to make it home for the holidays. On arrival on Good Friday, the manager offered to bring my car round to the hotel car park, as we had parked on the High Street, in a residential parking zone, and I was a bit worried about leaving my car there, even though parking restrictions were not in force due to the Bank Holiday. This was done with the minimum of fuss, and very much set the tone for the excellent and personal service we received throughout our stay. We stayed in one of the cottages which was very comfortable and well equipped. We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant which was excellent, again with great service. My daughter and I are both vegetarians and they were more than willing to suggest alternatives to the advertised menu to accomodate us. All in all, we had a very pleasurable stay, and would definitely stay here again.
The only negative was that they don't provide room service (i.e. serve food in your room)
