Lakeside International Hotel  

Good value for money

Wer booked this very last minute and we paid a very reasonable rate for the hotel. I must admit my expectations were quite low from the website photos. I was more than pleasanly surprised. Our room had been (as all rooms on the ground floor-on same corridor) fully re-furbished and we had a lake view, which was good. The staff were lovely. Especially Carrina(sorry if I spelt it wrong) she couldn't have been more helpful. We needed train times for Twickenham, and she was straight onto it, ringing the train station for times. Breakfast again was very good. Fresh fruit was very limited, and probably canned, but overall a very positive experience. Hot buffet very good.Had noticed that drinks were reported to be very expensive in hotel, but we walked five minutes down the road to the local pub, which was great, there being a chemist convenience store and take aways on your doorstep. The pool was really warm, as was steam room and jacuzzi. Though quite dated facilities (no lockers for clothes just valuable, shower very old)) we really enjoyed it. We had a quick look at the Continental hotel (sister hotel) and was glad we booked the International with Lake view (hadn't requested lke view, but would recommend asking for room with lake view) The hotel had a lovely lounge area near the bar and a lovely ourdoor seating area overlooking the lake. Overall a very positive experience and well worth the £35 (incl full breakfast) P.P.P.n paid.

Pool facilities (changing rooms) could do with updating, though clean.Have a feeling they are mid refurb so they could be updated soon.

On arrival claimed not to have my booking, but when they did go on the computer they peculiarly had my contact details. There was only one member of staff and he seem a little overwhelmed I was put on the bottom floor which was in complete darkness. The corridor lights were operated by a sensor which wasn't very reactive. At breakfast I and several other guests were shown a table and left. It wasn't until a regular guest who arrived last was offered tea and coffee that it was apparent we should have been asked for out requirements. Although the staff member was very pleasant I again had the impression that they were overwhelmed. Finally on check out the invoice raised was more than twice the negotiated price. They did sort but I worry what might have happened if i hadn't got the email confirmation with me. This isn't an uncommon experience so it wouldn't stop me recommending but be aware of the limitations

The selection of television programmes was very poor

Select location and modern facilities - nice artwork - staff were nice as well as very efficient .

Orange juice at breakfast tasted cheap , and let down the otherwise good breakfast

Good location for all routes into London and South Coast. Freindly and efficient staff wih relaxed atmosphere.I would stay again when in the area on business.

We had to change rooms as the first one had a very bad smell in it, but this was immediately sorted out. It was a pity we weren't given a lake- facing room as the hotel didn't seem to be full. Breakfast finished a little early for a Sunday and it was cleared away very swiftly. There didn't seem to be many staff to help at breakfast.

Even the hotel's design was somewhat old, the rooms were very comfortable. The double bed was very good, the room was large enough to move around freely and the heating was adequate.

The restaurant's menu was very poor with only 5-6 courses. The staff was also non-existend. It was staffed continuously from day till night by the same 2 waiters!!!

I checked in this hotel late-evening. But staff supported me.

As far as I saw "Booking.com" wi-fi was available. But I could not use wi-fi. I could not have a breakfast because breakfast is served from 7 A.M..

From reviewsIi had read, I went with mixed expectations. From the minute I arrived I was made to feel welcome, my room with lakeside view was excellent, clean & spacious with comfy bed. The pool was also very good, the only criticsm is that the changing rooms need updating. The evening meal was well presented, & of v good standard, though slightly overpriced. Good breakfast. Would I stay there again - Yes - especially at the price I paid!!
