The kindness, informality and obliging attitude and genuine efforts of the hosts, the well-presented and spotless accommodation, comfortable rooms and beds and the relative peace of the immediate environment. Home-produced breakfasts are a delight to taste.

Slightly noisy and hectic daytime A30 running right past the front boundary (though the tall boundary hedge helps) and the need to use a car to find an evening meal, etc (the nearest pub The Compasses - just walkable - was too popular).

Beautiful place, with very conscientious staff. Rooms were well presented and clean, and the breakfast and meals were of a high standard. Me and my partner fully enjoyed our stay, and would definitely consider renting a room here in the future.

The staff were attentive, polite and genuinely could not fault a thing. The beds were comfy and breakfast was great. I loved that chickens roamed about free.

Ideally located for the Chalke Valley History Festival, this is always a friendly place to stay. I was in the annexe, presumably the former coach house, which has large, very comfortable rooms and you can sit outside in the sunny yard with free-ranging hens. Breakfast (including home-made bread, sausages, chutney and baked beans) is particularly good. I hope to be back next year.

It was very handy for our needs, and was a great location. The bed was huge! The owner was very helpful and made you feel welcome.

Not really a dislike, but the cooked breakfast could have been slightly bigger portions. It was superb but could have done with a bit more.

Award winning B&B and it was fabulous! Very comfy bed, luxury toiletries and even hair straighteners!! The room was immaculate and the furnishings were high quality, we couldn't have asked for more. The Food....Well that was just first class, organic AND homemade, no wonder they have just won 2014 National Breakfast Award. I would highly recommend this unexpected 'little gem'. We will definitely be back.

Way over priced. This is a three star not five star property!! Should be paying no more than £85.00 per night. Mattress was so soft we couldnt sleep.

    Bad lighting in bathroom

The family who run this B&B were outstandingly friendly and helpful. Lancer House is an amazing place, very clean. The food was exquisite, all home cooked to perfection even home-baked bread and ice cream with amazing flavours, and above all else good value for money.

We had an extra large bed and would usually prefer it a little firmer but that is not a necessity.
