The staff were very down to earth and friendly. They made us very welcome.
Location and general ambience
problems with tv reception!
This is a unique hotel. At the rooms in the castle they managed to find the perfect balance between authenticity and comfort/luxury. The lounge/bar is again authentic and provides a fantastic atmosphere. The restaurant is excellent and doesn’t offer you just dinner, but a gourmet experience. Don’t miss the opportunity! Extremely friendly staff and service tops all of this. Considering the whole experience it’s good value for money.
A shame I couldn't stay longer...
My wife & I are well travelled. The staff, food, comfort & atmosphere are all as good as you can get anywhere. This hotel is a genuine first class experience all round.
Nothing at all comes to mind.
Enjoy a stay in a genuine carstle but with all the modern luxuries we expect. Excellent food and service.
Amazing gourmet food combined with excellent friendly and knowledgeable service. It was great to have our tenth wedding anniversary recognized with complimentary glasses of champagne!
The ambiance of the hotel and the restaurant made our stay unforgettable. The evening meal was one of my top ten meals ever.
Comfortable room, but not worth the usual room rate. Dog friendly.
No a la carte option. Poor service in restaurant. Overpriced.
Beautiful castle, history, stunning room.
The ridiculously expensive evening meal, consisting of a square inch cube of lamb with sauce....what the??? Wanted a hamburger when we left!! The plate looked pretty, but come on??? A taste only?? Not impressed..."The emperors new clothes" syndrome...not fooled.
Comfortable bedroom with comfy chairs
TV in bedroom was poorly positioned No option other than 4 course meal at £47 in pm
The place is amazing, the room decor in excellent state of repair and cleanliness and the setting was "to die for".
Dinners are a set 3-course meal at c. £48 per person (pricey) ... we were meeting friends both evenings of our stay but, if we had not been, we couldn't have eaten there anyway as we are not big eaters in the evenings and would not want a 3-course meal. No flexibility for folk like us ... pity!
Real castle....history. Great breakfast. All rooms traditional and full of atmosphere Good interesting tour of castle.
Authentic castle surroundings, excellent staff (polite and friendly), the location and food. The rooms are beautiful and very tastefully decorated. The food is also very nice. We dined there for a special treat and were not disappointed. Will definitely go back!
Only stayed the one night. Would like to stay more.
Lovely building and evening meal is expensive but probably worth it to complete the treat.
Staff are lovely but do not take personal responsibility for fixing things so you do not get the service you have paid for.
The Castle having been rebuilt -Wonderful and all credit to the owners.
Have taken these matters up with the manager
An exceptional location in a beautiful area. The castle was extremely impressive. The rooms in the courtyard were very comfortable and nicely furnished.
The style of the rooms, the space, the privacy, the helpful staff, so many positives.
Beautiful Decor Excellent and enthusiastic staff Excellent Chef
Castle occupation Good rate Professionalism of staff Beautiful restaurant Sheets 7 foot thick walls Décor, objet de art and historic prints and hangings
Missed tour of battlements because had to leave before 10:15 Menu was a flat rate, always leaves vegetarians picking what is left and paying as much for a quiche as meat eaters pay for their steak duck or venison. Not right.
Top class hotel had a very pleasant stay in the castle lodge excellent suite would highly recomend .Great service from hotel staff.
Need to have a more wholesome menu food not value for money.
Very stylish with lots of old world charm. Loved the lounge area for pre dinner drinks. The evening meals were exceptionally good, beautifully presented and just delicious.
Location Room Staff generally v helpful
Menu poor. Only fixed at £48 for 4 course. No individual choice Had to wait 10 mins to checkout as no receptionist
We stayed in a Castle View room which was much bigger than expected with lovely views of the Keep. The Castle itself dates from 1300's ,is amazing, yet warm and friendly. The food truly memorable, attentive staff without being intrusive, fab breakfasts..... a real indulgence. The evening meal was about £46 per head but well, well worth it.
We liked everything, however you have to be prepared for steps rather than lifts.
